I purchased a used vehicle (2011 Subaru Forester, *******km) from Patton Motorcars (PM) on July 23, 2024 for $12,500. The vehicle was represented by the seller as being in exceptional condition with extensive recent mechanical work, and I was led to believe that it would be reliable for a reasonable period of time. I took possession of the vehicle on August 2, and drove the vehicle from ******* to ******, **, where I was residing at the time. I had the vehicle inspected by a family friend, a retired mechanic, on August 6, and he was immediately concerned that the engine was not running properly. I contacted PM that same day to request additional information about the recent engine work that had been completed prior to the sale, which is when I discovered that they had no records of the work. I subsequently visited 3 other mechanics for their opinions, and each of them advised me that the engine did not appear to be running properly. On August 16, the check engine light came on while I was driving. At this point the vehicle had been in my possession for exactly 2 weeks and had been driven fewer than *****km (ODO *******km). I took the vehicle to **** Auto Haus in ******, **, for diagnostics and repairs, and it was determined that there was a significant valve clearance issue due to faulty mechanical work. The engine was irreparable and would need to be replaced entirely. I contacted PM requesting that they a) cover the repair costs, b) consider re-negotiating the price of the vehicle, or c) offer a full refund. After extensive correspondence, it was finally agreed that PM would cover repair costs, and the engine replacement was completed at Lees in October. The invoice for repairs, dated October 29, 2024, was submitted to PM. Despite numerous attempts to collect, no payment has been made to **************. The vehicle remains parked there awaiting payment, leaving my family and I without a vehicle for over 3 months now.
