    Paid a deposit to this company for landscaping services that have not been delivered. The company sent out an email this year stating bankruptcy but CBC news article indicates they have not actually filed for bankruptcy.

    Paid $7,345 deposit.

    Kanata Landscaping took a 50% deposit for services not rendered. Money was taken July 26, 2022 with promise of work completed before end of year. We were pushed off until Nov 2022, and told to reconnect in May 2023. March 31, we received the email attached, with a note from Kanata Landscaping that deposits would not be returned. ****** ********, *****, has not filed for bankruptcy, and he still owns and lives in his home at **** ********* *** ******** **** He still owns equipment and a fleet of trucks. We would like our money back.

    Sadly, this same scenario has happened to well over 20 families in and around Ottawa for totals between $3,000 and $19,000+.

    Kanata landscaping was doing work in our neighbourhood in August 2022, and several neighbours obtained quotes as a result. The ****** ****** ********, reviewed the work I wanted done. He made suggestions and seemed quite knowledgeable. He explained that due to Covid and the challenge of getting building materials, the company required a 50% deposit to secure a spot in the spring 2023 queue. On March 31, 2023, I saw a post on my community Facebook page by a member saying that she had received an email from Kanata landscaping informing clients that it was closing its doors. This was validated by other members of my community and members from other communities in Kanata. I had not received this email. I believe that the owner knew last summer that he was in financial trouble and used our deposits to pay his debts. I also believe that he has started up a new business in interior design/decor as he talked about expanding his business when he was here to do my quote. I don’t believe that he has filed for bankruptcy. I would like to know if it is possible to get some if not all of our deposits back from this crook. I am retired and have used my savings to secure this landscaping job which will never happen.

    This ordeal has been going on for two years. Original work started October 22, 2020. 50% deposit given before work started and balance paid immediately after work completed. Within two weeks of work being completed I contacted ***** the owner and sent him photos showing that steps they had just rebuild had shifted. The steps have continued to get worse. I was assured that they would be repaired immediately but it has been two years and countless texts and emails and still nothing has been done

    We, Kanata Landscaping did not do this job initially. We recommended the customer replace / repair the entire job but the customer failed to do so. As a company we do not do repairs any longer for this reason. We have a signed letter with the recommendation declined by the customer to do the work required. Instead of reaching out to the original contractor he has come after us instead.

    The repair work that was paid for was in fact done 2 years ago. We were to return as a kind gesture to rectify the project done as best we could. We have endured shortages during Covid of labourers and must attend to paying customers first unfortunately. There is no warranty on repair work as stated in our agreement.

    It is unfortunate it has come to this but we understand the frustration. Although this is unfortunate, as a business we cannot be held responsible for another company’s failure to provide quality work.
