On July 2nd I booked a cottage in Tobermory, through Grey Bruce Cottages from August 6th to 10th for 4 adults and a dog. Our credit card information was provided and we received what we thought was a booking agreement which clearly stated the dates we had booked along with the cottage address. This was an anticipated vacation and we even booked a variety of tours in Tobermory. The day prior to our departure we contacted the company to ask for check in details and were told “We are deeply sorry, but your booking request was not accepted and the property was booked by another family. We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.” No explanation was provided for why our booking request was not accepted. When an owner Nathan was contacted by email he stated “I'm sorry, but that is not a booking agreement, it is the terms and conditions agreement/acknowledgement pertaining to the By Law for Northern Bruce Peninsula.
We also have no record that you paid for a booking in our system. If you have a receipt, kindly forward along with the actual booking agreement.” This agreement comes up when you click on the link in the email called “View my Rental Agreement.” So while this may not be the “booking agreement”, and actually the “terms and conditions agreement”, it was still accessed using a link called “rental agreement.” Also why send us a rental agreement then rent the cottage to someone else after we provided our credit card info. I assumed we were charged and would not have realized until the credit card bill was received, that no funds were withdrawn from our credit card. Now our vacation plans are non existent. This was an administrative error on the part of Grey Bruce Cottages Inc. and while they were very apologetic, a request for a rental agreement based on unclear semantics in your email, still leaves us with accrued vacation time, lost deposits for other bookings and no place to go.
