      We were debating purchasing an item at Canadian Tire and we suspected that the item would likely be going on sale given the display in the store and the number of items in stock. We specifically asked a representative to confirm that Canadian Tire would match the price of the item if Canadian Tire had a sale. The woman at the **************** indicated that if we brought our receipt within the period of the sale, Canadian Tire would honor the Canadian Tire sale price within a 14-day period. So we purchased the Bissell carpet cleaner on October 2nd (043-6962-2) for $139.99 - we noticed that the item did go on sale as noted in the Cdn Tire flyer covering Oct 6th to the 12th (page 5) - $104.98. We went to the store with our receipt on October 12th only to be told the item was not on sale. We wish to have the sale price honored as we had been told by the sale representative. We contacted Canadian Tire ******** Relations - who indicated that they decided to suspend the Price Match Guarantee program because of recent volatility - to be clear we were not asking them to match the price of a competitor, we were asking them to honour their own sale price as it was noted by their ****************s. We could have technically returned the item but felt that the store had misrepresented its policy and this was not ethical. We are therefore filing this complaint over this practice.

      Better Business Bureau:

      Can Tire has offered a gift card- equal to the price difference. Although still zero acknowledgement that their staff provided misleading information and were clearly not aware of the policy change but I guess that is too much to ask ie that staff be able to communicate in store policy to customers  

      I withdraw my complaint - thanks for at least being there nothing would have happened if it wasnt for my reference to BBB which is in of itself a concern for consumers.
