10/25/2024 $267.79 Safety inspection for car registration They charged for work without my approval and put forward a list of items for work, that did not need to be done for the safety. They didn't even drive the car which is mandatory for a safety inspection. They damaged the car and would not give money back for damage done. They wanted ******* for work that was not needed. They charged money for a hub service which was not approved, and not needed(it was done a week ago). The only thing the car needed that was on their list was the hood latch cable. Because they failed to drive the car they never heard the screaming damaged wheel bearing which needed replacement. They attempted to charge for an alignment for lower control arm with no issues. Which has no affect on alignment. They also attempted to charge money to reset the steering column control module. Which the car doesn't have. They also tried to replace the seat belt latch, for no apparent reason other then fraud. I say all these things because the car passed the Ontario safety inspection a week later in another shop. With nothing other then the wheel bearing and hood latch cable replaced. I suspect they do this to every victim to enter the shop. 20 to 50 per day, guessing that on the size of the shop.

When a customer comes in to have a safety done on their vehicle, they have to pay for the service regardless of whether the vehicle passes or fails.

The vehicle in question is a 2013 ***** with ****** KM.  The purpose of a safety is to make a list of all deficiencies of the vehicle where minor or major.   After our mechanic took the vehicle for a test drive he started his inspection.  Many issues were noted.  From here a quote was done up for all the deficiencies that were noticed and presented to the customer.  It is up to the customer to decide what work they want done, nothing is forced on them.  The main issue was that the hood release cable was broken and rigged with a wire cable through the front grill to allow the hood to release.  Under section 8.1C of the *** safety standards, this is an automatic fail.  (please see the attachment).

The customer came in and paid for the service that was asked for.  Unfortunately the vehicle failed the safety.

Based on this we are not inclined to give any refund for the service.

I am rejecting this response because:

      - The Canadian tire store charged me 41~ dollars for a hub service for corrosion which was never required or approved. I was physically present for all repairs to the ***** and changed the tires and there was no corrosion.

There was a long list of problems that werent even real problems. I got it safetied somewhere else and it passed the safety. The only valid problem was the door latch but it still works from the front and still stays latched. I find it hard to believe that the tech even drove the car at all. I knew I needed a front wheel bearing and the tech would have noticed if they actually drove it. The car entered and left the shop with the exact same reading on the odometer.

The tech also doesnt seem to understand how a seatbelt latch works. They claimed the seat buckle was broken when its fine.

There was one repair for a console or something that my car doesnt even have.

You should probably also investigate the techs at that store since theyre exhibiting fraudulent behaviour and Im lucky that I have an automotive understanding and know that theyre lying.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *******

The total work order that was paid for was 225.99.  (****** for the safety plus tax).  The 40 dollar charge was declined.

Once again,  the work that was requested was provided.

      There will be no refund.

I am rejecting this response because:

The Canadian Tire needs to review their automotive technicians who do the safety inspections. My invoice clearly stated that 267 was charged. Apparently the system and paper invoice were disconnected and it did only charge me for the 225.

There were still lots of things listed on the safety inspection sheet that werent even problems.

There was even a **** on the control arm where the tech had tried to break it and failed.

I dont need a refund. I just need you to be aware that your techs at that store, or at least the one who did my safety, are committing fraud. You need to put them through training again to remind them not to scam people who dont know enough about cars to call the company on its ********.

I went to a different company the next day or so and the safety passed with no problems.

The hood latch was the only thing on the list that was valid and its not even a safety thing. The hood is still double locked from the front. The technician didnt even know how to use the middle seat belt so decided to claim it was broken.

      Do better.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *******
