Power concrete supplied poorly mixed concrete that damaged my new home(under construction) the concrete had far to much water added and it caused full icf block to swell and nearly burst. My walls and corner now have bulges and gaps at joints. fixing this will require extra work and will also result in less insulation in the home.the poorly mixed concrete also brings up concerns as to the strength the concrete and longevity of the home. On top of that they are claiming to have brought 18 Meters of concrete for my walls, this is impossible the math dose not support that.they are trying to charge me for at lease three extra meters which is over $600 Management is refusing to talk to me, a month after I requested an explanation they sent one man over. he was very rude, could barely string a sentence together and may have been drunk.I had to ask him to leave my property several times. He continued shouting at me until he got into his truck and left. They have also billed me twice the agreed delivery fee for stone and have hidden charges for deliveries

    Business Response

    Date: 16/10/2023

The customer sent a text message to our ********************** batcher asking in a rather rude manner for an explanation of what happened on site.  Our batcher was not on site therefore was unable to give an explanation at that time.  The customer eventually contacted us by email, at which time I asked for a phone number in order to have a conversation to deal with any issues he felt there were.  He refused to give me a phone number so we continued the conversation via email.  I informed the customer we would send someone out to take a look at the project which we did and he was very rudely greeted at which time he left when asked to.  I then received a very rude email to which I responded and then decided it was best to cut off communication as we were getting no where. We would have gladly worked out something in order make the customer happy but it was clear he had no intention of paying.

In response to customer complaint that ********************** had far too much water...although there are several factors that led to this issue the customer could have refused the load of ********************** and stopped the pour if he felt it was too wet.  Our concrete tests all have come back well above the *** rating so strength should not be an issue.

The customer ordered 13 meters of ********************** and it was not enough to complete the pour, an additional 5 meters was needed.  When asked for the measurements the customer refused to give them to me.  Our batching system records everything that leaves the plant. And our scales and systems are calibrated regularly by both rose scale and Euclid to ensure accuracy.

Our delivery fees are clear for trucking and a fuel surcharge per hour rate. The customer has ordered, been billed and paid for aggregates in the past so there should have been no surprise when it came to the trucking costs of aggregate.

I am rejecting this response because:

I never intended to not pay my bills nor did I say or do anything to make someone think that. I only ever asked for an explanation and a correction to the bills as well as damage power concrete made to be fixed in some way.

I was never rude to anyone except in a response to their  rudeness and obvious provocation.  (I have a witness)

I did not give my phone number so communication could be documented over email, that was explained to them. they also already have my phone number so I'm not sure why she asked for it.

I did not provide my measurements because that would not prove anything, they would just tell me I was wrong. I requested that they come and measure for themselves which they refused to do.

As for the extra concrete we had already refused a truck that ****** because it was to dry for the pump(to dry for anything). I believe they are trying to charge me for that truck.

As I told ************ who came to site site a month after the pour  it is impossible to refuse a load of concrete that is already inside my walls.

as for trucking a fuel surcharge was never mentioned until I received a bill, but the main issue is they are charging one hour per load from a yard that is less than ten minutes away. Before ordering the stone I was told it would be a 30 min charge per load. I specifically waited several days for that pit to be available to save the delivery fee.

    Sincerely,

The customer is correct that the one load was to dry to pump and did not have enough water left (after giving his water to the pump truck to prime) to wet his load and had to return to the plant to water up. He was not however billed for any concrete that was not delivered and used in the pour.  The customer did however have full control to stop a load from being pumped as he was the one on the hose and would be the first one to see the consistency of it as it started to go into the wall.  I am sure that we could have resolved things had the conversation not become abusive, we are still however willing to work with the customer and deal with this situation should he contact us directly. Please note that ICF block is to be poured in 4' high sections not 8', therefore it is difficult to determine exactly what has caused the "damage" without further investigation.  As I understand the customer has already began to build on top of the concrete which he claims may have structural damage or weaknesses.

Power Concrete is proud of the work we do, the product we sell and  the relationships we have built with many customers over the years.

I am rejecting this response because:

This still leads the question as to where the extra three yards went, it would not fit in my walls. the fact that they have refused to come and measure  suggests that they expect me to be right and they will not have an explanation as to why they attempted to charge me.

I would like to confirm that he "watered up" and dumped his load and mixed a new one.

When you are using a pump truck it is impossible to tell the viscosity of the concrete unless perhaps if you are very experienced.

Although I have poured a lot of concrete including well over a thousand feet of foundation I certainly cannot tell the slump of concrete while it shoots out of a pump truck.  I expect there are very few people who can.

I have never in my life had a bad truck load of concrete, I certainly would not expect two almost back to back.

I do not know where you are getting your information but No. I was not on the hose.

the conversation has never become abusive aside from when power concrete's employee came to the site and yelled at me.

Power concrete has rejected every request to try and work something out, and are only now talking because the bbb is involved.

I am aware of the speed at witch icf is poured I am a red seal ********* and a certified icf installer.  it took well over 4 hours to pour this speed was not an issue.

we never poured 8 foot sections, again I do not know where your information is coming from but it is wrong.

Yes I have continued to build the home, we cannot wait indefinitely for power concrete to address the issues they caused. it has already *** over a month.  it would have been in their best interest to come a month ago when I first expressed dissatisfaction with their product. If the concrete dose have an issue i'm sure they can hired a good engineer to help them fix the structural problem.

    Sincerely,
