*******, we're very sorry for the extended hold times you have experienced. Unfortunately if call volume is high this can occur as we strive to provide each caller with the support they require. We always strive to be as efficient as possible, but we will always take the time required to resolve a concern. In regards to the terms of a personal loan or retail financing account, the details are outlined in the contract or financing agreement documents. A sample of the personal loan contract is available here and it shows the Loan Summary section which appears on page one of your contract and depicts not only your interest rate, but other key costs as well: ******************************************************************************** If you want to make adjustments to your regular automatic payments on your account, this is something you coordinate with your bank. Hello ****. We are not a 'loan sharking place' at all. We are a middle-ground lender. Learn more about what that means on our website: **************************************************************************************************** All of the details of your loan, including your interest rate, payment amount, cost of borrowing and more, are all outlined in the loan contract document that you reviewed and signed to initiate your loan. You can reference a sample of the loan contract document here on our website: ******************************************************************************** The formatting of our contract documents is standardized and is not altered at the branch level under any circumstances. We will investigate your comments about this being done, but there are limitations on the document design and type that would not allow this. The service you describe receiving is unacceptable and does not represent the standards of care that we hold ourselves to. We are so sorry for what you experienced. We understand that you are not happy, but that does not make our services illegitimate. We are not a loan shark and we do not commit fraud in any capacity. We are a federally and provincially regulated lender and any lack of compliance with those regulations would be catastrophic for our business. We are always compliant and always working to improve our services to better meet the needs of our customers. We will use your feedback here to continue to do so.Review fromCaitlin B

** * ***** **** **** ******* **** ***** * ****** I took out a personal loan with them and paid off majority of the loan in June 2023, there is a balance stillnowing and to reduce my payments they tan my credit again and said to expect the payments to start oct 20th 2023. Now I have been told it hasn't been resolved or approved and I still owe now a past due of over $600 even though I was proactive and had this to my understanding resolved with the branch manager in Sept. **************** told me I am a **** and I've been ignoring their calls and I'm past due. They are having trouble getting the new approval even though the manager said it was done and not to worry about the emails I was getting to disregard them as they were no longer correct. I was hung up on by **************** that told me I was ***** about all of this and I can't find information to make a formal complaint. Hello *******. The service you received is unacceptable and does not meet the standards of care we hold ourselves to. We are so sorry for the failure and the frustration and confusion it has caused. In any situation where you are renewing your loan, a new loan contract is drafted and must be signed by you, the borrower. The terms that apply going forward are the ones in this contract; this includes the payment dates and amounts as they are outlined in the re-payment schedule on page one. These are the terms you are bound to and are expected to meet throughout your term. Failing to meet those terms can lead to penalties and potentially Collections. Communications regarding your account should never be ignored as they may be system-generated based on your account activity or standing and require your attention and immediate action.Review fromVrushank M

I made a purchase from ******* and I have been making early payment of my balance to clear it off, and my plan which was originally 24 months was shortened to 12 months without any confirmation and was charged interest even though the full payment was made. I was also charged membership fees on the notion that I had balance due, which was already paid. I would never recommend this company to anyone to buy anything on loanFairstone

Hello ********. We're sorry about the confusion regarding your financing plan. The details of your plan, including your term and payments, are outlined in the documentation provided to you via email. If there was confusion about your plan and our team was able to make an adjustment to your plan structure, the adjusted details would be provided via email at that time as well.As for annual fees, these are applicable to the account with or without a balance, as long as the account remains open. Even if your balance is $0.00, if your account remains open and available to you to use, there is an annual fee due.For continued support on your account, please call ************.Review fromNina W

Hello ****. We never want to be known as a 'brutal company' and we believe we aren't one. We're sorry for the difficulties you've experienced connecting with a member of our team who can resolve your account concerns. Based on the information you provided with your review, we believe we have identified your account. We will not share account details here on a public forum, but your request has been referred to your local management team who will have your Branch Manager give you a call to provide the account details you require to get support and resolve the situation. Hello. Without more information we cannot be sure this is the situation, but if the account you had was a retail financing account, missing a payment doesn't have to mean you failed to pay down your balance. It can literally mean you missed a payment date as some plans require a regular payment be made on the schedule outlined in your contract. If you missed one or more of these dates, it would be deemed a 'missed payment' and could be sent to Collections.
If your account was referred to Collections in error, we can help. Please call the Collections team at ************ for assistance.Review fromJuan M

******* ** **** ********* ***** ****** ******** ****** ********** ******** **** ******* ** ********* ***** *** ********* **** *** **** ******* * ***** I made a purchase in 2020 under the agreement that I confirmed pre-authorized payments be made to Fairstone. Since then, I've only received one email confirming I was approved for the loan. Today, I find out that Fairstone has not been taking these payments but rather they've been claiming I've missed payments and charging large amounts of interest. I now apparently owe Fairstone a much larger number than what was previously advised. When I tried to get in contact with their team, I was met with extremely long hold times and then unhelpful employees who would only advise that I would need to be transferred to the next department. When they finally provided a different number to call, I was left on hold again with no one picking up. I don't even have an account confirmation from them. It's honestly shocking *** *************** ******** *** ********* ***** ********* **** *** ***** **** *** ** * ***** **** ******* ******** ******* *********** **** **** ****** ******** ********** *** **** ** ***** *** ********** * ******* ******* *****. ****, a 'canned response' would do nothing to address your concerns and that is what we are here for.We regret to hear that your experience led you to believe that our business is anything but reputable and reliable. We have been lending to ********* for nearly a century and we do so under provincial and federal regulation; regulations that we are always compliant with. Our services are anything but 'shady.'From your comments, it sounds like you had a retail financing account with us. When you are approved, you receive an SMS notification that includes your account number. Your account number is also included on each monthly statement, which can be accessed online through the account management portal: ********************************************** If a payment is missed, a notice of such will appear past due notice will appear on your monthly statement. When a payment is missed, penalties may apply as outlined in your financing agreement. To resolve your account concerns, you will need to contact the support team associated with the retailer you hold an account through:Best Buy account holders call ************ ******* (incl. former ****************** or EconoMax) account holders call ************ ******* LEntrept (formerly EconoMax) account holders call ************ All other account holders call ************Review fromMARISSA K

******* *** ***** ******** Applied for a loan, and gave permission for a credit check. No one got back to me for over 3 weeks, even though I left messages 6 times, with no call back/communication. They sent me another flyer about preapproval about 2 months later, so I thought I'd try again. They did their checks and said they'd get back to me the same day, before 5pm - heard nothing. I called the following morning and the agent picked up; she told me I had been declined due to a validation error, then she hung up. No idea what a validation error is....no answer when I called back...checked my credit bureau twice, and provided shoddy service both times...* ***** ** ** **** **** ******** *** **** *** ** *********** *********** **** **** **** *** ****** ***** *** **** *********Fairstone

Hello again *******. As we noted in our reply to this review on Trustpilot:We are so sorry for the lack of service you received. Not following up with inquiring customers is not a part of our process; we failed to uphold our standards of care and we apologize for that.We can also provide some clarification. If you applied over the phone or in the branch, you would know the decision on your application before you left the branch or ended the call. If you applied online, the very last screen of the process indicates whether you are conditionally approved, denied, or pending. And if you are pending and you reach out to your branch, they can provide the final decision. We're sorry that we weren't able to provide a loan to you at this time. But we're happy to hear you found an option that works for you.Review fromMelanie M

Absolutely horrible!Going through a mortgage application and they popped up on my credit... I didn't even know it went to collections. Our mortgage agent is the one that said it indicated that male was undeliverable to me.So after calling fairstone and then having to call the collection company who had my account, I was told I needed to pay the minimum owing which was 300 and change and then carry on with my payments per normal. At that time **** has happened. **** ** **** **** ***** **** **** ****.I paid the amount and have been making my monthly payments. A year later trying for another mortgage application and they pop up on my credit again. I called to inquire and they told me they wanted the full balance. I asked why the first rep wouldn't have told me that when I called a year ago and have been making payments on my account since. For some reason they had a balance showing of **** and change... My actual balance with the payments I continued making to fairstone and was able to view on my personal account was down to approximately 500$.... I settled to make a final payment *** *** * *** *** ** **** *** *******!Never in my life. Will I ever go to fairstone again and never will I ever recommend fairstone to anybody.**** * ******* ****.Hopefully my account will show as closed once this payment is processed and they won't f*** me over again.Just a bunch of wires. *** **** **** *********This was after the fact that I had proof of my initial phone call with the agents i.d number, name, day and time I called and what was discussed.********** *** ******** ****** ** *** ***** *****They said I would get a letter once my account was showing as paid off. I asked her how I'm supposed to get the letter when the address I provided was the correct one and didn't get any mail in regards to my account going to collections. She just said it will go to my address on file... You mean just like my notification letter did right?... ******.Fairstone

*******, unless an account was paid off in full and closed, it would eventually be sent to Collections, which was the case here. If the contact information we have on file is not accurate, we have no means of connecting with you to keep you apprised of these account changes. When an account becomes delinquent, the account holder is notified at 30 days and 60 days by letter. During that time, your local branch will attempt to follow up with you repeatedly by phone to address the payment issues as well. Of course this is also not possible without accurate contact details. You can manage your contact information in ************************** here: **********************************************
If payments are made on an account regularly as outlined in the contract, your account balance should be gradually decreasing, not increasing. This would occur if your payments are incomplete or late and you are incurring penalties and accruing interest on a higher amount than you would be if your payment schedule was met. We do not have your account information, and we would never discuss account specifics here, but if you find these scenarios apply to your situation, your branch team could have helped. Unfortunately at this point (based on your comment) the ****************** would be your support resource.

Fairstone Kingston has been ********* me with personalized junk mail. * ****** **** * ****** ****** ********* ************ **** **** * *** *** **** ** *** ** * ******* *** *** I phoned Fairstone to have them remove me from their mailing list, however since making that phone call and being told I would no longer receive their garbage, I have received two further pieces of junk mail. *******, we are happy to provide some clarification. First, we get mailing lists from a variety of list vendors. These vendors provide information found in the public domain, such as public telephone directories, as well as third-party information obtained through sources like online websites, companies that do surveys in shopping malls, contest entries, and retail partners. The list vendors receive the individuals consent to share the names and addresses with third party companies like us.You've done the right thing to request removal, but we failed to provide a key detail, which is that mail is produced many weeks before it is received. Unfortunately once that process has begun, there is no way for us to intercept individual pieces of mail. This means that the pieces already in production will continue through the process and you will receive them for up to 8 weeks (8 pieces) before you stop receiving mail.We apologize for our failure to provide all of the relevant information. We understand your frustration, but we hope this additional context can provide some relief and peace of mind. Our intent is never to cause stress and we are sorry to have done so.
