They have absolutely ruined my credit with their reporting style, I bought a new car at 22 $576 a month paid every single note and only 1 late, will not let me refinance and simply from a late payment and an application for a refinance my credit has been negated 130 points. Do not use this institution they help none have ridiculously high interest rates and are just terrible I truly wish I would have used someone else.

Alabama Credit Union does not calculate credit scores; credit bureaus do this based on several factors, including late payments. However, there are other factors that drive the score calculation, such as how much credit history is reported; the number of lines of credit opened; closure of other accounts; inquiries from potential additional creditors; late payments on additional lines of credit, etc. We cannot comment on the reviewers specific situation or interest rate.

Alabama Credit Union apparently keeps a secret "core" database of user information that you can't change in your online banking profile. My online account has had my current contact information for ****************************************************************** with was my student account from over a decade ago. No calls, no physical mail, no alternative attempts to contact me. So when I quit using my account and a forgotten charge was automatically attempted, they hit me with NSF fees, etc. Not a big deal, IF they would have notified me. Instead, they racked up charge after charge on my account relating to the *** fee and sent my account through the entire collections and charge-off process without ever actually managing to contact me. Supposedly, all their attempts were through this long lost email. If they had given me a call on my cell phone one single solitary time, this entire event could have been avoided. If they had emailed EITHER of the current email addresses I'd been keeping updated on file in the online portal, this entire event could have been avoided. If they had physically mailed me a notice to the physical address I'd been keeping updated on file in the online portal, this entire event could have been avoided. Instead, they managed to shatter their reputation AND damage my credit score all in one via grossly negligent business practices. *****! I'm still researching whether or not this violated any state or federal laws, and have since paid off their ****** amount to not completely destroy my credit score, but the impression will stay with me forever. This is a completely unserious sham of an organization that is brimming with borderline unfathomable incompetence. I no longer would trust them to babysit a rock, let alone handle my finances. I only wish I could have read a review like this before putting pen to paper, and I would plead with anyone to reconsider entrusting this business with a single dime of their money.

I hate to give this bank even 1 star. This is the worst bank Ive ever dealt with. For years there has been numerous complaints not only for the local branch but this bank as a whole. Their customer service is the worst and they have done illegal transactions with my account. I would suggest you not lose your money to this awful company!

The review alleges illegal activity on the account, which ********************** denies in full. Team members from the branch contacted the complainant on October 21 (after the company became aware of the review) and asked what illegal activity she alleges took place on her account. The complainant stated that no illegal activity had taken place on her account, but that it had taken place on her fathers account. In order to protect member privacy, Alabama Credit Union representatives cannot discuss accounts with the complainant on which the complainant is not an accountholder, and denies accusations of wrongdoing.

If I could give zero stars I would. This company is a joke and their customer service line is worst! I really hope someone looks at this from corporate and reach out because for a customer service rep to simply hang up the phone on a customer and say no when I ask for a supervisor and to tell me to be blunt we cant help you anyways they need to be fired! This is NOT how you treat a customer, what are you training your reps on? Seriously

Terrible service, I called multiple times to close a checking account I barely used since they were charging a monthly fee, but could not get through to anyone on the phone to have it closed. The account became overdrawn instead of them closing the account with zero activity, and now they have reported to the credit bureaus that I have an overdrawn account for $10. I will never use them again, and will forever warn anybody I know that does use them to close the accounts but watch out for shoddy customer service and get it in writing that the accounts are closed.

If I could select zero stars I would. The treatment I received as a black African ******** was unsustainable. I was treated horribly. And decisions were made bias based of my race.

Alabama Credit Union partners with Credova and Guns.com to provide loans for customers to buy guns. This is an inappropriate use of members' deposits. Stopping this practice helps decrease gun violence.

ACU needs to get with the times. Other credit unions cash/deposit checks in half the time as them. Frankly it’s getting annoying. I have deposited checks (local checks) from the same elderly woman I can for, for months. Small checks, like 50 dollars. (Sometimes less) they take days to go though. Like how long do you need to hold 50 bucks or less. People are broke. You obviously are not. I’m close to moving my accounts to *** *** Credit Union. They give you your funds Immediately. Even payroll hitting my account at midnight. It’s not always on time. It’s like they try to sit on your money as long as possible. My co-workers that bank with *** *** get their payroll hours before I get mine. I’ve been with ACU for years, but I’m over the slowness.

I began an ACU account as an undergraduate. When I moved out of state after finishing school, I attempted to close this account remotely and was repeatedly met with tremendous difficulty for what should have been a simple process. There was only ~** bucks or so in it, so I wasn't too worried about it.
Then, ACU ignored my attempts to enroll in paperless banking and quietly docked my account $* monthly for "paper statements" until it overdrew. They claimed that they couldn't close my account until it had less than $** (or something around there) in it when I called to try and close it. They then disabled my online access. I am now awaiting a call back to determine how to resolve this now $-**** overdrawn account, and can only hope that they will finally let me pay this balance, close my account, and be done with them forever.
This bank is predatory. Good riddance, and shame on whoever approved the practices this bank currently employs towards its customers.

We're very sorry about this issue. Ms. Whitworth was in contact with our Member Care Center on Wednesday and we were able to close the account per her request. The fees were actually for our Lifestyle Checking account, but we have refunded those fees and will be sending the member a check to complete the transaction.
We were able to locate a call we had with this member in October, 2021, at which time we provided correct information on how to close the account. The member thanked our agent but didn't follow through at that time. Ultimately, we're happy to have resolved the issue.
