On November 9, 2016, BBB requested Spencer’s TV to substantiate or modify claims made in an Arizona print advertisement which states; “Arizona’s largest independent dealer!”
According to BBB Code of Advertising 28. Objective Superlative Claims, "Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests".
BBB requested Spencer’s TV to substantiate this claim by providing clarification as to method and frequency in which they verify the accuracy of this claim. If they were unable to provide substantiation, BBB requested Spencer’s TV to modify their advertisement and any future ads like it to adhere to the BBB Code of Advertising. The business did respond to BBB advertising concerns, but has indicated that they do not wish to substantiate or modify their claim.
