I contract with Republic Services to pick up my trash. They have been difficult to work with from the start. But we seemed to be in a good spot until recently. They finally - after awhile asking for one and being told no then yes - have a locking mechanism on our trash can. Our account representative informed us that someone from the operations team would come by to grab the key to unlock it so they could service our bin. It's been almost three weeks since that call and no one has come by to service our trash can. They have not picked up the key either. We have called our account representative five times since then and gotten no response. She has not picked up our calls or replied to our voicemails. We called the general customer service line this morning and they informed us that we have not paid for the past several services that were "completed" even though they were not completed because they have not picked up the key from us. We won't pay for service not completed when the business does not follow through on the responsibility to pick up the key necessary to do their jobs.Initial Complaint

I signed a service agreement for trash disposal which charges a monthly rate to have two dumpsters of trash collected three times a week. The company began assessing "overage charges" when the contents are not completely below the top rim of the dumpster. An overage charge sometimes occurs because the trash isn't arranged neatly in the dumpster and sometimes because the contents are simply piled higher than the top edge of the dumpster. If the bin is indeed overloaded, it is simply a matter of a few percent more than the bin's capacity however the company charges 350% of the cost of an entire dumpster every time waste appears above the top edge. The agreement does not define what "full" or "overage" mean nor does it specify the amount that will be charged if that undefined and subjective condition occurs. It's completely unreasonable to charge 3.5 dumpster loads simply because the trash wasn't efficiently arranged and there's no reason for it. The company has issued credits for some of the overage charges but not all, considers me delinquent because I won't pay the excessive charges, continues to assess the charges and wants to charge me 6 months worth of billing to cancel the service. I've tried to discuss it with three different representatives to no avail. I would like to continue the service, I'm willing to pay a justifiable amount for defined and meaningful overages, or I would like to be released from the contract that they are not abiding by.Business Response

I canceled my service with republic at the end of March beginning of ****** ******** is trying to say they only picked up 1 trash can and trying to charge me for the other and not refund my payment. I have called and spoke with numerous people regarding this and they will not release my refund. This customer had extra ********************** next to his Toter that the driver took pictures of and sent in. His truck cannot take these extras his ****** is 10 feet in the air. Our LA called the customer same day and explained he needs to call in these extra items to have them picked up by a different vehicle. Not sure if this happened before or after his complaint. Called Republic Services to cancel service because we are moving out of the country. I was told there is a $38 per container fee PLUS an "environmental and gas fee" of $102 to pick up the containers. I asked them if that fee was to pick up the containers and they told me yes. It cost around that much to get service for 3 months and they want it to stop service when I paid through the end of June. I refuse to pay these fees as they are extortionist.Business Response

An email was sent to the complainant requesting a phone call to discuss the issue, but no response was received. Upon reviewing the account, it was noted that there is a pending credit for the prepaid month of June 2025, which will be processed on the next invoice date of May 15, 2025. We have arranged for the removal of both the Recycle and Solid Waste carts to take place on the final service date of May 29, 2025, at no cost to the customer. Any remaining credit balance will be refunded to the customer within six weeks following the last service date. We consider this matter resolved and closed.Customer Answer

When I signed up with my trash provided there where no fees associated with disconnecting services. I have had them for 15 years, doing a fair job. They have been raising their rates to be higher than everybody else. I call and discontinued my services. They said that they would pick up my cans for the final time on the last Tuesday of the month. Then I was informed that I would have to pay 60$ to have my trash cans picked up. I told them when I started the service, there were no fees for discontinuing the service and I would not be paying for them to retrieve their property. Last Tuesday of the month came and went, and they didn't pick up their trash cans. I had to keep setting them out for a month before they were finally picked up. Then I received a bill for ******. I called them up to remind them I discontinued service, and they issued a credit for the ****** and informed me I have a 0$ balance. Then 2 weeks later I get a bill from Republic Services for 60$ for the pick up of the trash cans. Applying a fee to someone's account to pick up the company's property after my service has been discontinued is shady at best and unlawful in my opinion. I am demanding that the $60 charge be removed from my account.Business Response

I have filed multiple complaints regarding our green waste service, which is part of our garbage service from Republic Services, with no contact back or fixes to the issue. The driver of the green waste truck, places our container in ***** spots, dumps out kitchen waste out of compost bags to soil our otherwise clean green waste container. The driver specifically dumps out the contained green waste and spreads it out inside our container prior to dumping it the truck. We carefully place all our kitchen waste in compostable bags and or paper bags. The driver will throw the bags on the street. The driver has left notes to us to inform us we can not use bags, when the compostable bags and paper bags we use are acceptable per the Republic Services website. When we try to ask why? the driver yells at us to back inside our house.Business Response

This seems to be a case of misunderstanding with the driver and customer. The yard **********************/organics is being serviced. Our driver was taking item out because the container was full and then added it and dumped twice. The overage was put on the ground but then picked up and serviced. There could have been some extra that may have blown away, but nothing done on purpose to try to get our customer upset. We will reach out to the customer, again, in hopes for a final resolution.******

The Calendar ***************** singed a three year contract with Republic Services on 8/1/2020. The price was $85 per month with a 3% increase per year. They added a automatic renewal after three years. No contact, no contract. No signature. Republic is now attempting to increase the monthly cost to $614.91 per month. More than 6 fold increase. We attempted to cancel the service moving forward but they are stating we signed the attached contract. As you can see they never even signed this contract. We are just asking for them to remove the existing dumpster and stop services which have been spotty at best.Business Response

I stopped service with Republic Service in January 2025 by appropriate procedures and was told I would receive a refund check for my overpayment in a few weeks. I continued to receive statements from them and after I called customer service on 3/10/25 and spoke to *** at ************ at 4:51, she confirmed that I would be receiving a refund check in a few weeks. I called again on 4/25/25 to customer service at ************ at 3:54 and spoke to a ******* and she stated that they had already paid me and that I should have received the check by now and that it must have been lost in the mail. I had also received a call from someone previously telling me I had to keep their services and I told them I couldn't because I already had someone else. They have just been giving me excuses and I don't think they want to pay the refund they owe me.Business Response

I spoke with the customer and explained to her that there was never a refund check due to customer paid her quarterly invoice on 11/18/2024 for $145.52 and her account was closed effective 01/31/2025.
I informed the customer that *** did not explain the credit process to her correctly. *** should have told her is that they were crediting her most recent invoice from her account so that she owned nothing.
I also informed the customer that normally we do charge a cart removal fee, but it looks like the charge was credited.
Customer agreed and said that she was truly sorry for all of the trouble that she caused. I informed the customer that she did nothing wrong. The wrong information was given to her by the **** and because of that she thought she was going to receive a refund check back.We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that we may have caused the customer.

I cancelled my service due to them continuing to raise their prices. I was under no contract and talked to ***** ******* to cancel my service at 3 locations. He was nice and got the cancellation all setup and said they would remove the dumpsters on March 31. Today April 27 I get an invoice for over 1k dollars. I was never told or agreed to pay such an outrageous price to have their dumpsters removed. After doing some research there are some active class action lawsuits that touch on all the issues I was having with this company from missed pick *** that I was billed for, raising prices non stop, etc..Business Response

Republic services inc is a trash collection company. I am forced to use this company by my local ************* trash collection is constantly being missed while I still pay my fees. I have to report multiple missed pickups sometimes multiple times in a row. I have gone weeks without them collecting my trash at times. This is very unacceptable. There are multiple times I do not report missed pickups because MY lack of time to be able to. I would understand once or twice a year, stuff happens weather etc., but this is atleast 20 weeks a year I am missed. I need my trash picked up on the regular basis. I have tried getting my local township involved since they force me to use them. But this is no help at allBusiness Response
