My daughter brought me in on her buddy ***** so I tried the gym for one year. I was happy with 24-Hour Fitness because it was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and decided to join. I have been a member for four years now. Over these four years, I have watched my local facility decline. There are several issues I want to address. The men's restroom is downright nasty. There is no custodian on site. Every time I use the restroom, there is no toilet paper, paper towels, or hand soap. The urinals are broken, the toilets have leaks, and the blowers are broken. The entire facility is nasty and is not being maintained. The elevator is broken. I have a disability, and I have a friend who is 95 years old, and there isn't an elevator running. He struggles to walk up two flights of stairs. That's unacceptable. A friend had a seizure, and paramedics had to carry him upstairs because the elevator wasn't operating. Every year, you increase your prices, and, every August, you charge me a ***** annual member maintenance fee, but the condition of the facility is horrible. I want to know why our ********, ** location is not open 24 hours anymore, but ********** is operating 24 hours. Also, why has the equipment been broken for almost 1 year? I am also concerned about safety. Sometimes, the parking lot is pitch black and has no security onsite. This is asking for a mugging. I have addressed the issues with my local facility, and the issues have not been resolved. I tried to call corporate and was directed to my local club. The only time corporate will answer is if I am late on a payment. Another concern I would like clarity on is if our lease is being renewed or if you're working on finding us another local facility because I am hearing conflicting stories about the gym staying open and closing. Members have a right to know so they can get a heads-up. I want a callback. God forbid if I am ever asked if the facility is up to code because I will tell the truth. Thank you. My gym in **************** closed on February 28, 2025. In October I joined the gym and paid for a full year up front, $341.77. Dear 24 Hour Fitness Management,I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally complain regarding the availability and use of the basketball court at your **************** facility.According to the posted schedule, the basketball court is closed 5:30 -8:30 pm Monday Thursday. However, I and several other members have consistently observed ****** basketball team begin using the court approximately 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. This has created significant inconvenience for members like myself, who have joined 24 Hour Fitness in part due to access to the basketball court during the hours publicly posted by your facility. This early and exclusive use of the court prevents fair access and diminishes the value of our memberships, especially for those of us who plan our workouts around the courts official availability. Its disappointing to arrive on time only to be told that the court is already in use by an organized group that seemingly receives preferential treatment, I have spoken with staff including Manager Khal regarding the issue and they do not enforce. ****** coaches will blow whistle, yell, and other mistreatment to those already using the court and following posted schedule. We respectfully request that 24 Hour Fitness enforce its posted schedule fairly for all members, and ensure that no team or group is allowed early access unless that policy is clearly communicated to all members and applied equally. This has been occurring since they have been allowing the sharks access and preferential treatment of the basketball court. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We appreciate your commitment to a fair and equitable fitness environment, and we look forward to a resolution that restores access to the basketball court as promised.Thank you for your time. I hope you respect your members times as well.Business Response

I have reviewed the business's response to complaint ID ******** and find that no meaningful resolution was providedonly a signage update was made. It's disappointing to see a business disregard the time and concerns of its paying members. Thank you so much ******************** for your time and effort to help me resolve this issue. I appreciate that BBB helps people (the business has been ignoring my concerns).

On 6/8/2004, I entered into a contract with 24 Hour Fitness that I would pay $20 annually as the membership rate for life. In good faith, I signed this contract at the *******************, ** location. I received a letter dated 3/21/2025 terminating my membership at this rate due to "upgrades." I now live in ********, ** and work out at the *********, ******. The excuse that was used, is just an excuse. The ********* facility has not been upgraded. There is usually one machine that is out of order. There were many years that I did not use the gym facilities, but still paid the annual membership. The contract did not state that they could cancel my membership.I called the number on the letter. It was a "call center" where I left my complaint with the person that answered my call. I tried talking to the managers at both the Lancaster and ******************* locations. Neither could do anything about it.I want 24 Hour Fitness to continue to honor the contract.Business Response

Dear 24 Hour Fitness Corporate Offices,
Both 24 Hour Fitness and I entered into a binding contract for a life time annual membership rate of $20. How can you legally break the terms of the contract? I attend four to seven times per month. Paying $19.99/month is a 1200% increase (which does not even include the annual fee!) That is insane! Please demonstrate integrity and lawfulness by abiding by the contract we both signed. You do not get to legally cancel the contract because it no longer suits you. Thank you.

I signed a contract agreeing to pay $20/year in perpetuity. I paid for many years even when I never went to the gym. Please show me on our copy of the contract where it states you can cancel at any time.
There is no cost increase to your company whether I pay $20 annually or $3000 annually. It is not a consumable cost. You do not have any phone numbers listed to talk to actual corporate employees, only people that work at a call center. Please be an ethical and respectable company showing integrity and honorability by upholding a contract that we both signed and agreed to the terms. It is not fair to the client that you want to change the terms and cancel the contract.Initial Complaint

Subject: Assistance with 24hr Membership Issue BBB I am reaching out to express my deep concerns regarding a 24 fitness lifetime membership, which I have held since 2004, and to seek your assistance in resolving an alarming ************ early April, I paid my membership online, as I have done in previous years. Unfortunately, I did not receive a renewal reminder this time. When I tried to pay online and encountered issues, I visited the ******************************** facility to complete my payment in person. There, I was informed by the manager that my membership had been canceled and that I needed to contact customer service for assistance.Upon calling, I was shocked to learn that my membership could not be reinstated without signing up as a new member, which would entail different terms and payment agreements. I was told that the type of lifetime membership I had originally obtained is no longer offered. This abrupt change is not only disappointing but also appears to breach the contract we established back in 2004.When I enrolled in my membership, I was promised lifelong terms at a nominal fee, and this assurance has been violated. The new conditions they proposed are unaffordable, especially considering I am now a disabled retiree. The prospect of entering into a new contract that could be arbitrarily altered or canceled is concerning and feels unjust.I have written letters to multiple board members of 24 Hour Fitness three weeks ago, with no response, and have contacted customer service, where I faced discouraging treatment. They suggested that if I was unhappy, I could simply leavethis is not a resolution. Given the circumstances, filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, as I believe that consumer protection entities should be involved when businesses fail to honor their contractual obligations.I kindly ask for your guidance on this matter.Sincerely,****** ***** *******************************Business Response

I want to express my concerns the contract I entered into with your gym. At the time of purchase, I was assured by your staff that this contract was legitimate, and that your organization would stand by its commitments. I specifically recall being told, "You have nothing to worry about; were a large corporation that seeks the best interests of its members."
I shared my past experiences with two other gyms that underwent changes, and I was reassured by your Fremont GM that your gym is different, stating, "We are not like the flaky or pretend fitness clubs." The name "24 Hour Fitness" implies a commitment to being available for your members around the clock.
Now, I find myself facing a breach of this agreement and an offer for a new contract. Given this situation, it is disheartening to feel that my loyalty as a long-time member is being disregarded. This experience feels like a case of big business prioritizing profits over the needs of individual consumers.
I am committed to raising public awareness about this issue and the practices that can affect everyday consumers like myself.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope to receive a prompt response

To whom it may concern Dear ******* I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an unauthorized charge to my credit card after signing up for a membership at 24 Hour Fitness on February 21, 2025.I enrolled in a one-year membership for $296, along with a ***** pass for $30, bringing the total to $326. I initially intended to pay in cash; however, the sales representative, ****, requested a credit card payment, stating it was only needed to keep on file. When I inquired about any additional charges beyond the $326, **** assured me there would be none. However, two weeks later, I noticed an unexpected charge of $59.99 on my credit card, processed by ****. When I contacted the gym to dispute the charge, he explained that it was an annual maintenance fee. I was never informed of this charge during the enrollment process, nor did I authorize it. When I pointed this out, **** simply apologized for not mentioning it earlier.Following this, I escalated the matter to the General Manager, Eeli, who assured me that he would contact corporate and process a refund. However, despite multiple follow-ups, no refund has been issued, and my calls are now being ignored.I find this lack of transparency and professionalism unacceptable. I respectfully request the following:1.A full refund of the $59.99 unauthorized charge.2.Confirmation that no further charges will be made to my credit card without my explicit consent. Please address this matter promptly, as I would like to resolve this issue amicably. I look forward to your response and a swift resolution.Sincerely,**** ******** ************************************** Phone: ************** Email: ********************Business Response
