I made an appointment and went in for new exam and glasses that were covered by my insurance for free. When I saw the doctor he said that contact fitting was a separate charge which wasn't covered by my insurance. He stated that he wouldn't know the price until after we found out what my prescription was.So I figured I'll know afterwards if I could afford it or not. However, when I found out the total was $390, I realized I was unable to afford it.The doctor then whispered something into the receptionist ear and walked away. The receptionist said she can do a payment plan where I pay half that day and half in 2 weeks!I told them again that I couldn't afford that due to being unemployed. So I told them nevermind,I'll just get my glasses and will do the contacts another time. She told me the doctor already did the work for the contact fitting so I had to pay the total no matter what! After some back and forth, she allowed me to make a $100/month payment.Immediately after charging $100 to my debit card the receptionist said,"Oh yeah,we take Care Credit."I asked her to cancel that charge and put the total on my Care Credit since I honestly wasnt able to pay $100 out of pocket at that moment. In a rude and annoyed tone she said,"No I cant cancel it,it's already been charged!"They make it seem like a contact fitting charge is optional after they find out your prescription which will then tell them what the price will be.However,in reality they already charge you for the service whether you want a contact prescription or not.Very unprofessional and deceiving.I should have read the negative reviews before going there but only viewed the most recent ones which were all positive. All the negative reviews state the same experience as mine. The 5 star reviews are all likely fake, almost all of them have only 1 or 2 total reviews and many of them ALSO posted reviews to same places!I went in for a free exam & free glasses but left paying $390 that I couldn't afford.Unethical price gouging!

      Business Response

Thank you for reaching out and expressing your concerns. Our office consistently tries to offer the best products and services. And although we understand we cannot make everyone happy, we certainly strive to do so. All of our intake forms and insurance benefit explanations  are very clear about pricing and what is not covered by insurance companies. ****, you were specifically advised of all out of pocket expenses and told that Cal optima would not cover a contact lens fitting. You were told the price and decided to proceed . Once contact lenses were fit on you and you walked out to pay, the response was, I cant afford it after the services were rendered and contacts were on your eyes. So, I apologize but once thst is done, we cannot undo a service. Furthermore the whisper you heard, which was actually said quietly out load, away from other patients, was to help you figure out payment plans for you, to help you with the decision you had made. Our office does not have a regular payment plan. And yes, staff assisted you with getting care credit to pay - After you already covered a portion of it with your credit card.We understand your frustration on the matter, but filing a BBB complaint and writing reviews does not take away from the the patients responsibility. What you are asking for is to refund you for all the work we did , all the while knowing you didnt want to pay for it. Obviously, we are happy to not charge anyone for any services not rendered or products not purchased But asking for a service and then complaining to get a refund is not acceptable by any means. We will forward the matter and your written acknowledgment of fees to your insurance company.

They are still acting like I knew the price before seeing the doctor. The only thing I knew was that contact fitting wouldn't be covered by my insurance. But even the doctor said he wouldn't know the price until AFTER Services were rendered. How is that fair or my fault?! The doctor made it seem that I had a choice on whether I wanted to pay for contact prescription AFTER services were rendered because he didn't know the price yet. I'm not the first one with this complaint. Look at negative reviews on ****** for this buisness. They are acting like I knew the price BEFORE Services were rendered but won't acknowledge that the doctor himself said the price is unknown until afterwards. This is price gouging and unacceptable
