March 6th, 2023: Contract had been completed, but the final inspection by the building **** at the City of Westminster failed the finish work. Specifically, the grout on the shower bench was separating.***** Pyrtle was out of town and had me wait until he returned in a month. The month came and went and he texted and said he wouldn't be able to do the work as he was leaving for ******. He asked me to find someone and have them bill him.I argued the point as I had no luck getting contractors to call me back. We went back and forth and ***** had no luck either. Finally, I found a contractor (*****************) doing work across the alley. He came and looked at the job and felt repairing the shower bench would be approx $1800. ($600/day). We called ***** and told him about the contractor about the estimate and ***** agreed. But as the work proceeded we found *****'s work was sub-par. The bench build into the shower pan was frought with leakage problems; the materials used to build the bench were not appropriate (plywood, rather than mold resistant), the sealant at the bottom of the bench never dried and hence never sealed the bench from the water. The bench was built onto a wall that housed a pocket door, not strong enough to support the bench.**** ultimately had to replace the shower pan, remove the bench entirely, and re-install the bottom two rows of tiling.***** had agreed to pay - and after making my final payment to ******************** refused to pay or even talk with me about why until July. This was not our agreement. Pay and he will reimburse. Had I known he wouldn't pay until he returned I felt I would have chosen to wait then until he could do the work. It made no sense for me to have it done by someone else and put myself in the middle.I have no confidence that ***** will pay, even after waiting. I have no confidence ***** will actually show up at the end of July. I cannot afford this $5500 outlay for 3 months! Not our agreement!!!A
