I left the company I worked for and tried to close my 401k. I needed my social, employee number, hire date, end date, last address, current address, phone number, email, and date of birth yet still they need to place a hold of ******************************************************************** Then because I withdraw early there is a penalty and I have to pay taxes on the amount. This all happened after four phone calls.Empower Retirement

This Company is horrible. **************** is a joke and when you ask for help they hang up on you. There are lots of good administrators out there. This is not one of them. Do not include Empower in an RFI or RFP for your business. If they are the cheapest there is a reason why.Empower Retirement

1 starI have been considering moving our retirement accounts from ***** Fargo and ******* ****** to Empower which was called **************** until recently. I am amazed how poorly they treat their account holders judging by the numerous reviews. The Company's response is just thank you for your comments and that we have referred you issues for further investigation. This is very not an honest and open response. I want to express my sincere thanks to the many former clients of Empower for taking the time to write about their horrible experience that leads me not to repeat their mistakes. This company has the worst customer service of any ********************** I have dealt with. My ex employer moved our Retirement accounts from another company to Empower. I have a large fund and was wanting to get access to my funds which were supposed to be available on Monday. On Wednesday I called, because I still did not have access to my account. I spoke to a supervisor who was very rude and at one point asked if I had someone with me (why should she care and why is it her business). I was told that they did not have to give me access, and that they had they entire week. They would not even give me my account balance. I still do not have access. I was considering leaving my money in Empower, but not anymore. I will also be talking with other ex employees and telling them to move their funds as well.Empower Retirement

I reviewed a money management site I have and found in my Empower Account a substantial amount of money missing. I tried to log on separately to my account which is an *** with Empower that originally was with The Hartford. When I could not log in I called the number from my last statement and said I had questions about my account. The robot menu did not understand my request and kept asking me to pick something else. So I picked unable to log on via the website. The phone system does not ask for my Participant ID or Plan number and routed me to their 401 K Department. The person there spent several minutes with me and told me he couldn't help. He routed me to *** and I got someone who told me, he couldn't help either since I was in a specialized *** ********* He assured me he would get me to the right person. After 17 minutes on the phone I reached ***, who also wasn't the right person but said he would help me anyway. He helped me log in to my account by changing my password and I found that the money I thought was missing was actually in the account but not registering in the money management account I use. I thanked *** who was very helpful and then asked if I ever have to call back how do I get to the right person. He could not tell me. He suggested that I call and pick need help with website. I told him I did that. So despite having me put in all my personal data each time I was on the phone with different no one in Empower seems to be able to get me to the right department. Other than ***, today was a terrible experience with this company. For at least a half hour I thought a substantial amount of money was missing and until *** helped me access my account I was put through a series of people who *** said all could have helped me, but no one else did. Terrible customer experience likely to be repeated if I ever need to call them again.Empower Retirement

I would have thought a company as big as Empower would want to follow up with me since I have no idea how to reach anyone about my specific account. The fact that they responded and said they appreciate the feedback and say contact us if you need any further help means that they likely did not read closely what I wrote. The point of my complaint is that I have no idea how to reach anyone about my actual account and I would not know who to call, and apparently neither did anyone I talked to on the day I had a problem. There so quick to take your money but when it's time to try to get a little back no help from there end. This place is absolutely horrible. I had fidelity at my previous employer and really wish my current one had them. They were a lot better companyEmpower Retirement

YOU WILL NOT HEAR THE LAST OF THIS. They will hold your money hostage or move it around. I quit my company for f****** around with my commissions, so i didn't trust them with my investments either. Come to find out the company they hire to handle retirement is just as shady maybe worse. I filed for a total withdraw from 401k and did not even care about the penalty. Two weeks ago, they save, they have to wait for the employer I just quit from for doing basically the same thing. Any company but especially one that handles investments and people retirements should not be allowed to hold onto to anyones money from an employer approval. They have too much control over a clearly corrupt organization designed to take peoples money and make them jumped through 15 different hoops to try to access it, hoping you will either give up in the attempt or just take what ever ******** they want to dish out that day. CLEARLY BY A **** STAR RATING YOUR CUSTOMERS KNOW YOURE FULL OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Empower Retirement

Our records reflect an account for ************************************** in the Erie Construction ********* **** (the Plan), an employer-sponsored retirement plan established and maintained by Erie Construction ********* **** (the Plan Sponsor).
By way of background, Empower provides non-discretionary directed administrative services for the Plan under a services agreement with the Plans sponsor. Under the terms of the agreement, our company does not act in a fiduciary capacity.Accordingly, we are unable to authorize a withdrawal from an account without the approval of the Plans sponsor.
Our records indicate Empower received the withdrawal request on April 11, 2023. Plan approval was received on April 21, 2023. Empower processed the withdrawal and sent the proceeds check via first class mail on April 24, 2023, to the address of record listed on the account.
Please note, during ********************** April 18, 2023, call with our ******************** he mentioned that he had recently moved but did not provide the new address. If he has provided forwarding information to the US *********** the check will be forwarded to his new address. If he has not provided such information the check will be returned to Empower. We recommend that ******************** updates the address of record on the account so that he receives any mailings or tax forms for the withdrawal. The address of record will also have to be updated in the event the withdrawal check is returned to Empower and needs to be reissued to his new address.
We believe that this response addresses ********************** concerns. If he has any additional questions regarding his account, he may contact our ******************** at *************. Representatives are available weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern time and will be glad to assist him.

Undisclosed fees to your account. The customer service is to protect themselves not you or your money. They auto sign you up for paperless and dont ask for your email or phone number. Then make it extremely difficult to access your account. That money is theirs not yours thats how they handle it. And when you have a concern they dont listen they cut you off, speak over you, dont listen or make any effort to fix any problems. TERRIBLE COMPANY TO TRUST FOR YOUR FUNDS, let alone your future in retirement. Been battling if this company for MY CONTRIBUTION TO MY Retirement for 2 years. Unbelievable.. dont even try its a waste of time and trust in this company.Empower Retirement
