Bill's roofing job was a disaster. He wasn't present during installation, despite claiming otherwise. Soon after, I noticed mold, sagging, and water damage. He repeatedly dismissed my concerns until I pushed him to check, but he insisted there were no issues. A chimney professional he recommended found serious problemsspongy spots, old flashing, and improper installation. Ten other roofing companies confirmed the same issues, including incorrect flashing, a broken ridge vent, and inadequate materials. **** is aware of all of these issues and the extents I have gone to. I also have mold and he is aware of **** refused to acknowledge the problems, leaving us with a faulty roof. Avoid at all costs. This has gone on for years now because I was hoping he would do the right thing. The one repair he did 3 companies have looked at and asked why he would use "cheap" plywood. I hired **** because my husband knew him and his family and because we once attended the same church and I thought he was a Christian and could be trusted. I am sad to say that is clearly not the case. I believe every thing this other person said because it seems to be the way he does things. I have informed him that I will be going to court since he clearly can't be trusted to fix it. These pictures are only a couple of the pictures that have been taken by roofers. I now have estimates from 15000-18000 with all new plywood being needed after they looked inside the attic and saw that no plywood had been replaced and much of it is no good although he told me he was doing so when he gave me my estimate.

      To whom it may concern,

I am attaching copies of all email correspondence, in chronological order, between Mrs. ******** and myself. The roof repair was done in November of 2020. After which, I had not heard from Mrs. ******** in regards to her roof until September of 2021. On September 10th, 2021 I had one of my lead guys go out and check on it. On October 7, 2021 Mrs. ******** reached out saying it was still leaking. The second week of October I sent a guy out to check things out again, who couldn't see any issues (on our end) again. I went out myself on October ******* and saw no obvious issues either. We did reseal around the flashing on the chimney as a precaution. I did not hear from Mrs. ******** again until March 2024, at which point I assumed she was having no issues since I hadn't heard anything otherwise. I went out back out to Mrs. ********** at the end of March 2024 and again saw no issues from our work. I again told her that I believed it was a chimney issue. I didn't hear from Mrs. ******** until August of 2024, I tried to meet up with her, but did not hear back from her until December 30, 2024 that she was still having problems. I responded with trying to meet at her convenience and did not get a response again until March 21st of 2025. At which point I reached out personally to the *************** she had come out. We made a plan, with her for the both of us to come out and meet with her. Then we could both have eyes on the situation and see where/what the problem was. Mrs. ******** did majority of the talking with the other company there. Below is the last interaction between Mrs. ******** and myself.

      Hello Bill
It has been over a week since your visit with **** and I have not heard from you at all. I do realize much of my conversation was with him that day and that would be due to the fact that he was the one giving most of the information. The fact is, as it always has been, the issue is the roof. However, this one area is not the only concern and I did intend to speak to you about the others but you were gone before **** spoke to me about the plan for the work on the flashing and I have not heard from you since about the others.

I will start with that area. I am aware of what the plan is for the flashing but I would like to know what the plan is for all of the plywood that has been damaged/ruined. You replaced a board out there when the cricket was put in but even that board was replaced with what others consider beneath quality grade for a roof. ************ not the type of plywood used for roofing. There are multiple areas and the other cracked area at the front that was not cracked prior to the work being done. I know **** pointed it out. I stayed present as much as I could so I could be in the know about what was being said/found. Fixing the flashing does not fix the entire issue because of all the time that has passed and the damage done.

There are other spongy areas. You say they are not an issue, that they are because of the way the crossbar is. And I did relay that to several of the roofers that came here and I asked them if it should have been addressed by the roofer doing the roof at the time. And the answer is always yes a roofer should have addressed that because when an inspector comes it will be called into question. Something I already know because I have been to several home inspections for clients. If we tried to sell our roof would be flagged for issues.

Next is the ridge vent which is visible from the attic crawl space opening and has been pointed out to you multiple times. And yet it remains that way. The wood was clearly broken while the roof was being replaced and then ignored and covered with no actual venting either. 4 of the roofers went into the attic. They all reported that it was broken and shitty/shoddy quality workmanship that should never have happened. They reported seeing less than quality "Plywood" used under the shingles, not quality plywood that should be used for roofing. Sadly as a consumer I wouldn't have known the difference but would have gone by what you told me based on trust at the time.

There is mold in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen and a visible leak in my daughter's bedroom. **** offered a theory on Saturday originally but then went back outside before leaving to look more closely and the "pitch" of my gutters/soffit is not enough to cause the water to flow back against my house in a way to cause the mold in those areas which is what the other roofers have said. That means that somehow water is getting in.

Since right after the roof was done I have come to you. First you said you came out to look at it and saw no issues. In October of 21 you said you came by and resealed the flashing. I told you that we had been home all day every day for 2 weeks with covid and did not see or hear anyone so we asked the neighbor and they did not see anyone either. You responded that you had sent one of you guys which is not what you originally told me. Originally you said you came obviously nobody came because we would have seen/heard him especially with the dogs here Maybe one of your guys told you he came by but he had not because as you have witnessed personally it would be impossible to be at my home/work on my home and not be seen/heard. You said you would be by the next day.

Again you said there were no issues as you said multiple times even though I continually told you about multiple roofers coming to look into the issues I reached out to you about. But again I pointed out all the same issues. This went on via texts and a couple of calls until you referred me to **** in regards to the leak near the chimney. As soon as he stepped by the chimney at the far end he was immediately concerned due to the spongy spot and had concerns about the appearance of the flashing. Stating it looked much older than the date for the roof replacement. . And that it was not done correctly. The same statement a roofing company had already made but I had not told him. He took care of both chimneys and told me to contact you about the soft spots which I did. Since then we have gone back and forth multiple times, each time with me telling you that it was not the chimney leaking and each time I told you how many roofers had come because in the end/over time I had in fact had 10 roofing companies look at the roof. Every one of them reported the same issues in the same areas and none of them thought the chimney was the issue. Which I also informed you of.

At one point you said you had a new phone and no contact information for me any longer. You also stated that you were here on the day my roof was done But you were not. I was home all day. Your brother ****** was here but you did not stay. And if you did stay then that would call into question even more of things that were found by roofers starting with the part of the roof that had been done 2 very obviously different ways. The stacks in the back 1 done one way the other a different way, the cracked/broken ridge vent. If you were here and didn't see any of those things or ignored them then I would wonder what would be found if the roof was stripped by another company.

At this time Turn Key Remodeling and ***** ****** Roofing are waiting for me to contact them with regards to the estimate they gave me. Those are the companies that seem best suited. They will document and take pictures of everything they do as they are known for working with insurance companies. Which leads me to the call I made to my own insurance to come look at the roof. They were not able to make it last week but I will reschedule and I have been advised to also call your insurance company with my concerns.

I did not give your company's name to any of the roofers so that if anyone had any issues with you that would not influence their professional duties.
After Guarantee looked and told me the issues he found (all of the same ones as the others including the fact that the chimney was not the issue) I did tell him. He stated that for many years you had a great reputation and did great work but recently he had seen some issues with work done by you not a lot but some. He gave me an estimate for replacement or repair but repair is not an option because based on many things once the repairs are started there are likely going to be more issues found.

I have been trying to get this roof legitimately and completely fixed since your company replaced it. That is now 4 years. I have been extremely patient while more damage has been ongoing because of the unrectified issues. While myself and my family have constantly seen mold grow and the garage wall soaked with water. I have completed a complaint to the BBB, and Consumer Protection. I don't like to do things like that but you have given me no other choice at this point because it would appear that you only intend to fix the flashing otherwise you would have stayed to discuss further concerns and not leave it up to the chimney guy.

      Hello ***,
I have been in contact with ****. I am not 100% sure on the leak that was in your bedroom being caused by a gutter. It only was said, being that the downspout is located directly where you said there was staining and with any possible water backup in the downspout being filled with any debris its going to flow in that location. The other bedroom you showed me as well, you said was stained for at least 2 years when I just did a walk-thru on 3/29, but doesn't appear to continue leaking you said. I am happy to replace anything that was damaged. I was at the job when it got started and finished. I wasnt there throughout the full process of everything that day, but had capable men there that did this type of work everyday for me. Im sorry if I overlooked the boots being shingled differently than each other and I will gladly replace so they look the same. This has not caused water to get in. The ridge vent could have easily been broken when we nailed in ridge cap (If we had seen it we would have repaired it then). I dont know why OSB roof sheathing would be considered less then quality as it is used regularly on roof structures as well as CDX plywood. Again I am not trying to pass blame on the chimney but there was an issue that was happening in the mortar joints of the lead. The joints were cracked allowing water in. We ran water all down it and that is where it breached through. We had direct water on the shingles that join up to the chimney and there was no leaking coming in there. As for any sponginess on the roof it felt pretty sound when I just walked it last week. You have 2 ft overhangs on your roof ***** which will cause flex in your roof. The rafters are undersized for the span which is typical for the age of the structure, but will have more flex then a standard frame today. Im sorry you had to make a BBB complaint about me and wish this could have been resolved differently. I would much rather repair it and have the town inspector come out and verify if done correctly once fixed. Please let me know if this is something you are willing to allow me to do. If you agree to this I would ask that your BBB complaint be withdrawn once inspector signs off. Have a great day.

I responded to the email sent from ******. I have heard from United We Stand and also the building office in town confirming that he never even had the work inspected by them which was based on  when he completed it which is yet another concern and they stated that he should have known he had to do so and also, he neglected to give his insurance information for the permit. Bill's invoice was less than detailed in the way that other companies are. Because we knew him personally. I knew him from a church I had attended, and my husband grew up knowing him and his family years before.

In his email he states he wants to do the work and have the town inspector sign off. HMM, that is not even a thing because it was supposed to have been signed off on when it was done and he did not do so. There are more issues each time I dig into it. Including the previous complaint he has with you and the legal issues he has locally for trying to selling a piece of property to 2 different people.

**** had come here in March and agreed to come and do some of the work with the chimney guy and blew it off speaking volumes about his professionalism, integrity and trustworthiness. ****, was prepared to come and assist as was agreed and **** did nothing.

I have attached his email in response to my last email.  Until this he has insisted that he was here the day the roof was installed he now admits that he was not here all day

      To whom it may concern,
To address all of Mrs. ********** complaints:
       * I called the job in to the inspectors office when the job was complete. I did not hear anything from the inspector which typically means everything is good to go. If they never went out there I was not aware. This was also during Covid and things were a little messed up in a lot of town offices.
      * In order to pull a permit and get it approved you have to submit a copy of your insurance. This was done. Why Mrs. ******** is stating she was told different, I have no idea.
      * As for the "local" issue she is speaking of regarding a sale to 2 people. Not that it has anything to do with how work is performed. The building address was messed up with the town when a larger parcel was subdivided. Therefore, a neighboring house and my land were both listed under both names and same address. This has since been rectified.
      * I did not blow off Mrs. ********* After her history and her accusations/actions, I simply replied to her email requesting that I repair whatever she believes to be wrong with an inspector to check and sign off. She never responded. Therefore, when I spoke with **** and he said he was going out there, I reiterated to him what I wrote to Mrs. ********* He said he understood and that was it. I still, as I am writing this, have not heard back from her after responding to her email about going out there with the inspector.
      * As far as lying about being there. I have stood my ground with the fact that I was there that day. Never stating I was there all day. I was there in the beginning and at the end. I'm sorry if my words were misconstrued and she thought it was all day.
      * I will also upload a copy of the proposal.
I do not wish any troubles on Mrs. ********* I have tried to rectify this situation and each time not hearing back from her for months at a time. I want this issue resolved also. As previously stated, both to you and Mrs. ********* I would be more than willing to go out there with a 3rd non bias party (the inspector) repair any issues and have them double checked for her when finished. Thank you for your time in this matter.

I am 70 in March, retired teacher, fixed income, widowed. $134,000 down payment for addition-to start 11/13/23 (he said-windows received). This date + 3 more cancelled for personal reasons: illness, truck, vacation, tree on his house. Recent start date 1/15/24 cancelled. I texted him that I did not believe his company had the capacity to do the job and asked to have the windows delivered to me and the difference in cost refunded. He refused to give me the windows and repeatedly texted -he wants to keep the windows and would refund 100% in full. We agreed to full refund (no windows) and to meet Thursday morning, 10:00 AM, 1/18,2024 in front of ********** (************, ********* **) where he would give me a check for $134,000, refund in full. The morning of 1/18, he texted that he wanted to avoid a confrontation so he had already put the check in the mail. He has repeatedly stated in text messages that the check was put in the mail on Thursday (last week, 1/18) and that I should get it shortly. NO check as of today. I do not believe that he ever sent one nor did he ever order windows (reason for later start date of 11/13 and 6 mos "to-start-by" in contract was ordering windows). I texted that there's no check and he repeats that he mailed me 100% refund. Yesterday 1/25/2024, he texted that he absolutely put the check in the mail and that he's away with his wife and kids (he has 4 school-aged boys) at church retreat through Monday. He texted that if the check does not come in the mail, he'll meet me next week to give me a new check. He has done NO WORK IN ANY CAPACITY, NO windows delivered to me. I did all of the leg-work: surveys, applications, obtaining variance and building permit, paid for plans on CAD, removed solar panels 11/9/2023 so work could begin 11/13 (and must reinstall them), purchased vanities, toilets, lighting. packed up my house (I cannot use it for friends or guests). I'm harmed financially, emotionally, socially. It looks intentional.

      To whom it may concern,

I'm sorry that ************************* feels as though she is being lied to or taken advantage of. Circumstances beyond my control have come up resulting in a later start time than originally stated. I still had full intention on starting and completing ***************************** project. She responded to me on 1/15/24 stating that she no longer thought that my company could handle the job and wanted her deposit back. Although she has done a majority of the leg work throughout the last year, there has been many hours of my own put into the dealings with this project. There has been multiple obstacles from both parties to get this project up and running. I agreed to refund the full amount back to her and keep the windows. The reasoning for keeping the windows is because I want no further confrontation or communication with *************************. If anything were to go wrong with the windows (wrong size, gets broken, isn't correct) the order was through me, under my company name. I do not want to be any part of that. I mailed ************************* her check on Thursday 1/18/24 instead of meeting her because after multiple harassing text messages from her I did not feel comfortable meeting her in person anymore. I have no control over the mail and why she has not recieved it. I let her know if she does not recieve it next week I will give her a new check. In the mean time she has continued to text me rude and harassing texts and has now filed this complaint. I have since spoken with legal advice and feel as though going forward she needs to send a written contract cancellation letter to me for us both to sign. I will be putting a stop payment on the already mailed check. The letter to include her receiving a full refund, my possession of the windows and no further action or communication between parties after the contract is signed and her refund is recieved. Once the letter is recieved and both parties have signed I will give her her refund within 10 business days. The hostile attitude she has had toward me when I've been nothing but respectful toward her has brought me to this. From here forward I believe everything needs to be handled in writing with both party's signatures as to protect both her and I.

      Complaint:********

I am rejecting this response because:

      To the Administrators of BBB,

My perceptions of being lied to and taken advantage of meet a reasonable person standard for those perceptions. When promises are repeatedly made and not honored, when many start dates are made and broken for personal problems (illness, truck breakdown, vacation, tree fell on house), when meeting to hand over a check is cancelled and I check the mail for over a week for a promised refund of $134,000 with texts that assert - check is in the mail, my perceptions and need to take action through BBB and other legal means is more than reasonable, understandable, and, in fact, necessary.  Further, I reject the characterization that I have made harassing texts and the implication that I am somehow a threatening person.  I have not threatened Menghi but have tried to recover the money that represents decades of savings.  Menghi has done no work for that money.  His claims that he has hours in the job are hours that companies consider sales and business development such as writing proposals, meeting with prospective customers, discussing the scope and detail of projects, and writing contracts.

Understand my purpose herein:  I do not want to harm Menghi's, their company, or ability to earn a living.

I simply want the immediate refund of $134,000 to me.

If Menghi sincerely wants a resolution to this matter, as do I,  put $134,000 into my attorneys escrow account for immediate release to me upon the execution of termination of contract and mutual release documents.  If this is agreeable, I will provide the contact information for my attorney to handle the escrow account and documents.

      Sincerely,
