I wish I had gone a little further in my search of reviews for Aetna, they’re awful, but I was escaping ****** ********** and jumped right into the frying pan with Aetna. They basically did a bait and switch. I was told I would get rides to and from the doctor but within 4 months into the contact, the day before a doctor appointment I was called and told no rides because I didn’t live in an assisted living facility.
It’s not easy to trust anymore, especially businesses like insurance companies. When you get older, you need to research what’s told to you by the medical community, especially the insurance agents and doctors because all they want is to figure out how to separate you from the few dollars you have.
I have no idea how I will travel to and from the doctor without the rides however, I’m sure Aetna’s meeting their goal to make as much profit as they can and that means misleading seniors and other customers. Their apologies means nothing to me when I know I won’t be able to get the care I need because as their greedy practices.
I’ve talked to several people about Aetna who say they wish they had talked to me before I signed up, I do too. It’s been a nightmare.

Aetna is the worst plan to be on, except possibly ****** **********. I am so very pissed off that they have not agreed to a deal with UW Medicine. That means that a large chunk of health care is now off the table with very short cut-off date that does not support my needs. This also cuts off a major ******* *********  I have lost 5 providers outside of this issue due to Aetna paying so poorly and I've had others asking for me to compensate what Aetna will pay. And sadly, because we only have one option at work, I am forced to carry Aetna insurance or go on the private market at exhorbitant rates. Something needs to happen here to make Aetna pay the standard rates paid by other insurance companies.

I greatly dislike this company. My employer switched from ****** to Aetna in January 2025 and I haven't been happy about anything having to do with Aetna. Getting care is like going through multiple different hoops. And for asking questions, I have to call different numbers and be transferred so many times. Nothing is centralized and it's really confusing what is covered and what isn't. They don't cover as much as what ****** has and I have to keep paying a steep co-pay. Thank you for covering 10% of my medications Aetna. I wish I could switch back, this is a greedy company.

Aetna denied my surgery, and during the appeal process today the representative hung up on my surgeon. This is terrible insurance company.

I had the Aetna Advantage Plan for years and was very happy with it. However, in 2025, I was switched to the Aetna Essential Plan, and unfortunately, I haven’t had the same positive experience.
The way they handle claims is confusing and frustrating. For example, even if a doctor is in-network, if their office address doesn’t match the listed group of physicians or hospital, it’s considered out-of-network—and I end up paying 40%. My dentist has three offices, all previously in-network under the Advantage Plan, but now with the Essential Plan in 2025, one of those offices is considered out-of-network.
Even Emory, one of the largest healthcare systems in ******** does not have all of its locations included in the network. You have to double-check both the doctor's name and the exact address to ensure it’s truly in-network.
Claims are processed in a way that often increases my copay, and while customer service is polite and friendly (usually based in the Philippines), I often hear the same repeated explanations with no resolution. When I’ve submitted complaints through the official form, I’ve never received a response.
I just want to kindly share my experience to help others be cautious. The plan details you read when signing up for the Aetna Essential Plan are not always clear, and you may end up paying more than you expect. Please make sure to review everything carefully and confirm all details with providers before receiving care.

I have submitted a claim for fitness reimbursement three times starting in November of 2024. Each time I call at and ask why I haven't been reimbursed they can't tell me why, only that I have to resubmit the claim and it will take another 30 to 45 days. The four Customer Service people I talked to at Aetna are clueless. They have no idea what's going on and all they do is ask you to resubmit the claim over and over again so that they will never pay you!

Aetna is so inept. All I do is fight claims that they deny when the place I’ve gone to is in-network and they accept my insurance. It took me 10 months to fight a $290 Covid test. Now I am fighting probably my 10th claim this year over the confusion of a date. I went to a Dr appt on the 10th and the labs were sent in on the 12th. I have spent 15 hours on the phone trying to get someone to understand the simple fact that I went to the Dr one time which is covered. Not two times. Inept inept inept!
