I hired Angelo's Pool to repaint my inground swimming pool in Sept of 2024. Looked good when completed and I refilled my pool for $800 after the pool was dried just as instructed by Angelo's. Pool was winterized and covered immediately after. Upon opening the pool in May of 2025, I noticed the paint was peeling in numerous places. Angelo's came out, apologized for the inconvenience and said they would fix it. They drained the pool 4 weeks later and repainted it. Just as he was leaving he said I could refill the pool in 4 days. I asked why me? I didn't cause this problem, and the water I just paid for was drained due to your error. He said it wasn't his fault, so he wasn't going to refill the pool. I want my $800 bucks back or my pool refilled!

    Business Response

September 2024, I visited ******* property to provide an estimate for a full renovation of his swimming pool. The work included retiling, repairing cracks, and repainting the entire pool. I quoted him $7,800, including all materials. I advised ***** against using glass tiles, as they are not recommended for the New England climate due to extreme seasonal temperature changes. I provided him with a tile catalog and gave him time to make a decision.

The next day, ***** approved the project and asked to be put on the schedule. He also sent a picture of the tile he chose, which turned out to be glass tile. I reminded him again that this type of tile is not suitable for our region, but he insisted on using it, saying that he had researched it online and believed it was appropriate. I followed his request and proceeded with the installation.

During the job, I discovered that all the pool pipes were broken. Although this was not part of our agreement, I assisted him in finding a plumbing company. Instead of repairing the plumbing properly, ***** chose to block the pipes in the main drain . Despite this complication, I completed all my contracted work within 10 days, including extra tasks such as purchasing a drain cover with my own money and performing additional repairs at no extra cost. The finished job was clean, professional, and looked beautiful.

Before leaving, I advised ***** to maintain the pool regularly, fix the broken pipes, and close it properly for the season. About five months later, he contacted me to report that the pool paint was peeling. Even though it was a Sunday, I visited his property the same day to inspect the issue. I found the pool in poor condition: pipes still unfixed, a leaking skimmer, and the pool filled with dirt and leaves nearly a foot deep. It was clear the pool had not been maintained.

Regardless, I offered to repaint the pool at no cost using epoxy paint, which was his choice this time. Weather delays and material availability slowed the process, but I completed the work, including thorough cleaning and applying two coats of paint over four days. Before leaving, ***** asked me to refill the pool, which was beyond the scope of my responsibilities, but I still helped as much as I could.

After I completed the job, ***** falsely accused me of stealing skimmers. Minutes later, he apologized after realizing they were visible from a different angle.

Throughout this entire process, I remained professional, responsive, and committed to delivering high-quality work. I took full responsibility for any issues related to the paint, even though the root causes were lack of maintenance and improper winterization. I did not blame ***** for the pool’s condition, but rather took it upon myself to make things right. I appreciate your understanding.

I am rejecting this response because:

Everything he mentioned had nothing to do with the problem. The tile I chose was recommended by the manufacture HE selected, With the condition an epoxy grout was uused. He decided to not use the epoxy grout as the manufacture recommend, and the grout only is now cracking. The tile is perfectly fine. Also as a gunite pool, epoxy paint is also recommend for that surface, which he also did not chose for the initial paint which is why it immediately started peeling. The pool was professionally winterized and covered right after he completed the job in sept. I provided pics to prove it. When he can back to repaint, he promised 3 coats, he didnt even complete 1 which is why I now have discolored blotches where the patch painted peeling sections of the stairs. Pics provided.

    Sincerely,
