After waiting months for an appointment in July, I was just notified the doctor has decided to take the day off. No problem I replied until I was told the next available appointment unless I want to schedule cataract surgery would be in December. It is clear the Delaware Eye Institute does value their patrons and are only interested in capitalizing on cataract surgery

I would give them a zero if possible. As of 6/4/2025, they have cancelled my appointment multiple times over the last 7 months and now have delayed my appointment on 6/19/2025 yet again until December 2025 due to a scheduling issue. I presently have a vision problem, and they expect me to wait another 7 months. Incompetence at its finest. Go to Will Eye in PA if you're looking for quality medical eye care. It will be worth the drive and less time in the long run.

Just received my bill insurance paid my $25 which is my copay now there's a hidden $50 for Isaiah she said insurance don't pay for that because they check make to see if your glasses need to be changed more that's part of the eye exam the doctors are very nice and not happy with the billing. Thinking about someplace else I'm happy with them always been there for years but now was that feeling was not happy it was like a hidden charge and they didn't tell you about it she said I could have denied it but they didn't say it was extra and it's the the same eye exam I get from there and from other places and there was no extra charge for that.

    DEI Review,

I have always been pleased with the service and the completeness of the yearly eye exam I receive at DEI for some eye problems I previously experienced. However, today (9/5/23) was an exception.

My original exam was scheduled for 3:50 PM. I received a telephone call at approximately 1:20 PM asking if I could come in at 2:50 PM due to an “opening”. I agreed to do so and arrived by 2:35.

I was called quite quickly for my initial exam by an assistant for readings & measurements. I was then seen by the assistant who takes electronic X-rays/pictures (?) of the eyes; again, normal procedure. I was subsequently sent, as is their normal practice, to the doctors' waiting room where I was met with an exceptionally large group of people waiting for the same doctor. After some time (10-15 minutes), several people started complaining about the long wait time from check-in to the final examination. I noted this is normal for this office.

Surprisingly, after waiting another 20-25 minutes, I was called before many of those waiting. I was led to my doctor's exam room. I waited for another 20+ minutes watching my doctor walk back and forth passed the room and seeing some of those in the doctors’ waiting room walk by. When my doctor finally arrived, he apologized to me for the long wait.

I was at the practice for more than 2 hours (probably closer to 2 1/2).
This yearly exam normally does take more than one hour. I'm quite aware of this and happy the exam is so thorough. However, this day's situation upset me due to the fact that I was called and asked to come in an hour early! If the doctor was running behind, why did scheduling have me come in earlier? I could have enjoyed another hour watching the US Open (haha!) and still gotten out of the eye doctor’s office at the same time - 5:05 PM! Hope next year's exam goes a little faster!

    Veronica Cavanaugh,
A long time (normally happy) patient.

Clinically I have no complaints although it does feel like you're on an assembly line. My gripe is that it takes over an hour on hold to get through to speak to ANYONE. I've called three days in a row, only to be on hold for over 45 mins each time before I hang up. I would've been happy with an automated attendant. And according to the very helpful staff in the Optical Store out front - it's been this way for awhile. Completely UNACCEPTABLE. I was told that callers can be kept on hold for at least an hour. There is no voicemail, no email options, nothing other than showing up in person to contend with an overflowing reception area. When you do have an appt, it starts no less than 30 mins late, and takes 2-3 hours to get through their assembly line. Worse than the airlines, and this is a local business.
