Ad Review

In November 2013 BBB contacted the business in regards to advertising claims made on the business's website. Specifically, BBB requested that the business provide substantiation for the lowest price claims or put in place a price matching policy, that the business provide substantiation for claims of the products being the best in the industry and the business being the most trusted and that the business provide substantiation for the claimed results that are to be realized by using the advertised products.

BBB Code of Advertising indicates the following in regards to lowest price claims: "Despite an advertiser's best efforts to ascertain competitive prices, the rapidity with which prices fluctuate and the difficulty of determining prices of all sellers at all times preclude an absolute knowledge of the truth of generalized underselling/lowest price claims. Advertisers should have proper substantiation for all claims prior to dissemination; unverifiable underselling claims should be avoided."

BBB Code of Advertising indicated the following in regards to superlative claims: "Superlative statements, like other advertising claims, are objective (factual) or subjective (puffery):

o objective claims relate to tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service which can be measured against accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims can be proved or disproved and the advertiser should possess substantiation.

o subjective claims are expressions of opinion or personal evaluation of the intangible qualities of a product or service. Individual opinions, statements of corporate pride and promises may sometimes be considered puffery and not subject to test of their truth and accuracy. Subjective superlatives which tend to mislead should be avoided."

BBB Code of Advertising indicates the following in regards to Claimed Results: "Claims as to energy savings, performance, safety, efficacy, results, etc. which will be obtained by or realized from a particular product or service should be based on recent and competent scientific, engineering or other objective data."

The business had indicated to BBB that it would provide the requested substantiation, but to date has not sent in any documents. The claims can still be found on the business's website.
