Coast Dental charged me a bill of $925.99 during an office visit on June 19, 2023. The charges were excessive due to procedures being billed redundantly. The Dentist ****** informed me before any "service" was provided that my gums and teeth were in exceptional condition and that no cavities were found, yet he still instructed the Oral Hygienist to provide 8 treatments of Minocycline (an antibiotic) to all parts of my mouth's gumline along with several treatments of antiseptic swabbing, and (non-needle) anesthesia to all parts of my gumline. The anesthesia treatments were applied 4 times-upper and lower mouth, and the antiseptic treatments were applied 7 times. When the dentist examined me, he claimed that the only area of concern was the upper back region of my mouth, yet he had his oral hygienist apply the medications to all regions of my mouth-front back and sides. Then the Oral Hygienist dropped my body down to a little over a foot above the ground in a horizontal position, which caused me to have an anxiety attack, to do deep cleaning or scaling. I am filing a complaint because of the questionable over-billing of procedures and the mannerism in which this office conducted its scaling. I am 83 years of age, and my anxiety has continued since June 19, 2023; up to this day, I am still sick from this experience. My estimate on the overcharge is $390.00. Their billing office refused to address the high fee charges related to the redundancy of procedures and refused to adjust the bill. They even recommended that I do quarterly follow-*** on deep cleaning, even though I was not diagnosed with having Gingivitis or Periodontal issues. Most dentists do not charge such exorbitant fees and certainly do not instruct their elderly patients to do additional and unnecessary deep cleaning visits. They have charged over triple the amount that most dentist charge per deep cleaning, x-rays, etc. I filed a grievance with AARP and plan to file a complaint with the ******************

I had a tooth filled on 08/03/2022. I was charged a copay of $43. When I received a review from my insurance, it showed, that they had paid the bill in full. There should not have been a copay. When I brought this to the office attention, I was told that I could get a refund or use the $43 toward a future bill or I could get a refund. I elected to take the refund. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to get the refund. I was seen in the office again on 10/13/2022. I asked about the refund, I was told by the office manger (*******), that the refund had been submitted to corporate. By this time, it had been greater than the 6-8 weeks, that I had been told that it would take. In Dec. 2022 I made multiple calls to the office. I would get the answering machine. Each time I left a message, with my name, number and what I was calling about. Not once did anyone call me back. Dec. 21,2022, I call my insurance company (Devoted), to tell them of the situation. They called the office of Coast Dental. It was said that, they would be submitting or resubmitting for the refund on that day. I was told that I should get the refund by 02/2023 or 03/2023. On 03/29/22023 I called the office again, because I had not received my refund. I talked to *******, she said that she would call and check on the refund and get back to me, that did not happen. I called devoted on 04/11/2023 to let them know that I had not gotten my refund. They called the office, they were given a # to corporate and a case # (******). I called corporate, got an answering machine, I left a message, no one got back to me. I called corporate once more on 04/28/2023, I left a message for the second time, still no responds. I called Devoted on 05/23/2023 and filed a formal complaint. On 06/26/2023 I called Devoted to follow up, they called Coast Dental and was told a refund was being mailed. As of 07/12/2023, still no refund, so I called Devoted again, they call corporate, did not get an answer. Still no refund.

I went to Coast dental in *********** ******* on July 20, 2023 at 8:30 AM for a new patient exam. I have solstice dental insurance so my co-pay should have been $30. The woman at the desk did not run my insurance and my bill was about $200. They then reommended a periodontic cleaning for me and quoted me a bill of around $800. This is something that should be partially covered by my insurance, but they told me it isnt. I dont believe they ever ran my insurance or filed a claim with my insurance company as they never asked for my insurance card. They only ever asked what my insurance was and I told them, but they didnt seek any proof or look at my physical card for ID number or plan. When I asked if my insurance covered any of my appointment- they told me no. I went back and looked at my insurance policy and I should have only had a $30 co-pay. They recommended periodontic cleaning even though I went to another dentist less than a year ago for an initial exam and was told that everything was fine and I just needed a standard cleaning. I ended up not going back to this dentist because I had moved away.

My daughter has been under Coast Dental care for 5 years. The service was horrible. She was under the care of several doctors. There was a time span when they couldnt find a doctor for a replacement, and she went without care. She went several months before she could receive a She went several months before she could receive an appointment. They were always behind on meeting deadlines. They finally took her braces off and her teeth are still not perfect. She now has to have braces put on again to correct her teeth. The front office staff are very argumentative. I would not recommend this business at all .

:This dispute is regarding a Porcelain dental crown that I paid for and have never received after 6 weeks of waiting. I was told it would take about 2 weeks . After waiting about a month and leaving countless messages with no return calls I was finally able to contact the office and made an appointment. Now it has been about 6 more weeks and again after numerous calls and leaving many messages no one will even return my calls. I even went in to the office and was promised someone would return my call the next day and again no one did. I finally got intouch with the inept office staff at 8:28am on July 11, 2023 and was told the crown was on hold and promised me she would call me by the end of the day and let me know something. Again as of 7/17/2023 she still hasnt called me back. Again its been 6 weeks and they haven't even started the crown.I've tried numerous to call and left msgs. to resolve this dispute. I have had enough of dealing with these people because, I've been lied to constantly by the Coast Dental **************, ******* office staff. They will not return phone calls about a 6 week wait for a crown that hasn't even been started. Now I been wearing a temporary that is starting to givie me discomfort and must see a different dentist to do the crown that I've already paid Coast for and they have used another $800.00 of my Dental Benefits. You can't trust what these people tell you and it's the worst experience I've ever had at a ************** and I'm not going back to deal with them further. I'm requesting a refund of the $135.00 charged on my credit card ! The insurance Co., ****************** has already paid them $800.00 of my Dental Benefits, so they need to refund that amount to them also.

      Business Response

      Date: 07/28/2023

Please provide a corrected HIPAA form which includes Coast Dental name and not the patient's name. Regarding the refund requested, we can complete a refund of the amount you paid of $135.00. Corrected claims will be submitted to your insurance plan to update your benefits and for your insurance to receive their refund. Thank you.

I first visited 05/25/2023. I was told I needed a deep cleaning so they couldnt do fillings. Deep cleaning was $1,350.99, with the majority of the cost being (likely unnecessary) *********** and antibiotic placements. I was scared into signing it. $1270.99 after insurance. They were able to start two crowns, I elected porcelain crowns. My share for both was $350 after negotiated rate and insurance. Including all the preparatory work, the bill for crowns was $1627. $1327 after insurance. This also included my $10 x-ray and $89 cancer screening. I declined the cancer screening. $1270.99+$1327-$89= $2508.99. We paid *******, including $10 for GFs x-ray. See exhibit 3. For the crown, they charged me the first day for everything but the final seating, which would be $350 per after neg rates and insurance. When I left that day, my credit was $2150.99.This is shown on multiple attached documents. Its even what they told my insurance company they charged me, also visible on attached images. I got my crown in early, which was nice, and then the next day I was told I could get my cleaning early. But then they made me sign a NEW cleaning form, pretending that I never paid for the trays. I figured it was an error, and the signature was to authorize work, not decline anything, so we would handle it afterward. When I left I asked my GF if she declined ***********. She did not. We went back and found out they charged me $1650 for crown placement instead of $700 and they took services off my cleaning plan to cover up for it! Removing the trays didnt cover the full $950, so AFTER I SIGNED they, literally with a sharpie, lied and said I declined all perio treatments. This covered the $950 but then my balance didnt make sense so they just wrote in that I accepted 3 antiobiotics. In pen. Forged document also attached. They admitted fault after a day of online complaints, promised a refund in **** days, and its been well over a month. Whats taking so long?

I am rejecting this response because: The refund was supposed to be issued to my card. Yea, I did open a bank dispute, that was because they missed their own deadline for providing the refund. My bank doesnt show a change of status of my claim, and even if coast actually did accept it, it might be 3 more months until the money is no longer captive. No $180 check was cut, either. I did receive an alert that a package was sent on Monday of last week. I asked multiple times if it was a check. The reference number referenced ********************* and the ***************** meaning it was going to be another legal threat I wasnt going to take seriously anyway, so I kept delaying it until they withdrew it.

I am not going to take the word of a business who stole $950 from me, falsified documents, lied to my insurance company and then tried to intimidate me by accusing me of civil infractions and crimes to stop me from telling people about it. Show me the evidence. Thats what I do.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 08/07/2023

Yes, I have received the $180 check and a written letter from the president of the company that I will receive the $770 back to my card. As such, you can mark this as resolved to my satisfaction. I have not received the $770 but they put it in writing so I believe them.

On 1/10/23 I had a semi annual cleaning. On that date I was charged $114. In April I called to see if I was owed any money back after my insurance provider paid for my services. The credit owed back to me was $89. Verified by ******* at Coast Dental on 4/25/23, she took my information and said an Office Manager would call to get the credit card from me that was originally charged to credit back the $89 to me. No one ever called back. I tried to leave a messages dozens of times to no avail. No one called back, other times the voice mail was full. Finally I needed to file a dispute with the credit card company to get the $89 credited. Finally on 6/8 the credit card company credited the $89 back to me as they found the credit to be valid. I tried calling Coast Dental to get my dental records as well to switch dentist. To this date 7/7/23 I have never received a call or my records. However today I got a bill for $25, which I paid on 1/10/23. I cannot even reach them to find out what this is and to have them show proof I owe it.

I had a tooth recapped and sealed in 2022. I made my copay in the office. I received a bill for $800+ in 01/23. After several attempts to contact the dental office, I reached out to the insurance company (MetLife Dental) and was told the claim was denied because the medical necessity paperwork was not submitted by Coast Dental. I contacted Coast Dental scheduling department (the only number where I could make contact) and was told the issue would be reported and escalated so that someone would contact me. I never heard from anyone. In 06/23, I received another bill that had credits of $112 (office copay) & $90 (insurance payment from cleaning visit 09/22). The bill stated I owe $419.50. Again *** made several attempts to contact Coast Dental without success. Please help me resolve this issue. Thank you.

As per Metlife Rep, the claim was denied due to insufficient information on dental necessity for the procedure. Patient was informed that the claim will be resubmitted to insurance company and will let her know if there is any new update from her insurance company.
Claim has been resubmitted both electronically and manually.

On 1/11/23 I had a dental bridge refastened by the ********************* Fla Coast Dental Office #****, *************) and was charged $150 under my insurance plan with Delta Dental. Realising $150 was an exorbitant payment as a *** pay amount for a mere bridge refastening I called Delta Dental Insurance and was told my *** pay part was $63, ( code **** for bridge refastening and I was overcharged $87. I asked Coast Dental #**** for reimbursement and they said they put in a claim to the Coast Dental corporate office in ***** (ph. ************) for my reimbursement and that they, (the corporate office) would have to reimburse. Ive called the corporate office 10 or more times to date and always get prompted to leave a message and someone will contact me; which no return call ever comes. The $150 was paid on my Chase FreedomVISA and I would welcome a credit of $87 showing up as a credit. Im submitting this claim out of frustration in my many attempts to resolve it myself over a 6 month period.

My husband and I went for cleanings which is what our insurance mcnadental told us we were insured for. We sat through ex-rays. Told we had cavities (never have either of us had cavities in over 25 yrs!) and told all about how much we will owe for the filing etc. BUT, yet not a single tooth brush, floss, or anything towards a CLEANING!!! This place is a complete SCAM and does NOT provide cleaning of your teeth at all! They scammed all the other poor patients into thinking they needed all this work done and thousands of dollars spent! This is horrific! I wasted time off of work to be SCAMMED!!!

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
