      On October 10, my husband, *****************************, and I ordered soundproofing drapes (order #*****) from Residential Acoustics for $575.45. We had spoken with representatives of the company on the phone a number of times and ordered what they advised for reducing the sound coming through a set of doors to my home office. We installed the drapes as directed--and found that they in no way reduce sound. These are solid wood doors on the interior of the house, nothing shoddy and not an unusual situation. Yet the drapes do not function as advertised at all. I have contacted the company a number of times asking to return the drapes. They offered us only a 10 percent refund. This is not a fair response to what was a significant investment for us, and would not even cover the cost of repairing our wall where we have drilled 6 holes to hang the unsightly rod they supplied and apply velcro tape along the sides of the door frame. The company justified this by citing their policy of not accepting returns of custom items. However, such a policy should not allow them to sell a product that simply does not do what it is supposed to. (Additionally, we ordered a neutral color for standard-sized doors so it's not a very customized order.) I then asked if we could exchange the product for a different one, or get additional layers of curtaining. They have not responded to this message, though their representatives were happy to talk to us while we were still deciding whether to buy. I was trying to find a compromise, but given our overall poor experience, we now need to be refunded.Other problems included frustration due to mis-assembled brackets we received that we had to reassemble and a rod of poor quality that makes it hard to slide the drapes to the side as the representative said we could. But I would be willing to accept these issues if the drapes functioned. They do not. So we need a response and a refund. Thanks for any help you can offer.
