I approached *********** regarding an oriental rug I had which I no longer wanted.I explained that it had a little bit of moth damage. Other than that, the rug had never been used because the colors in the rug don't match my living room colors. Without any more discussion he told me he would sell it on consignment and that he would send his employees to pick it up from my home within the hour. He did not provide my with any more information and I assumed he wanted to see the condition of the rug first, which made sense to **** contacted Mr. ******* 2-3 days later to get information about the status of the rug and the nature of the ****************. Mr. ******* gave me no information and said he would contact me.at a later date. I never gave Mr ******* permission to do anything with the rug other than assess it and provide me with information so I could make any decision necessary.I finally heard from Job Youshai some weeks later. He told me that if I wanted to restore the rug to get the best price it would cost me upwards of $5600.00. He placed the value of the rug at approximately $7500.00. To sell the rug "as is" would perhaps fetch a price of about $2500.00. I was given a laundry list of everything he felt that the rug needed to be restored, including over $800.00 for cleaning the rug which he then informed me he had already done.Job Youshai refuses to return my rug unless I pay him over $800.00 for a service (rug cleaning) I never agreed to.Additionally, I would never have agreed to having the rug cleaned given what he would charge me to restore the rug, as it it not worth it to me. I was never advised of any prices nor given the right to decide before he chose to clean the rug and bill me for it.I believe *********** knew exactly what he was doing to take advantage of me and I further believe Job Youshai is acting in a very unethical, if not illegal, manner.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/23/2023

Here is what was emailed to *************************** on 2/17/2023 in response to his initial complaint to us:

    Hi, ***.

Job asked me to tell you the following.

When a rug is picked up from any customer, we talk about the cleaning of the rug.  After the rug arrives, and we write up the paperwork with the description of the rug, the rug's size, etc; we call the customer to review the plan for the rug.

In the case of your rug, Job talked about washing the rug and mentioned the pet accidents and said the moth damage would be assessed after the washing.  Once the rug was washed, he added the recommended repairs and spoke with you again, and you indicated that you wanted to consign the rug here.  We then sent the email below to request payment for the cleaning we had done.

Cleaning is a condition of consignment, always, and the customer pays for it before the rug is put up for sale.

    Thank you.

    ________________________________________________

This customer's invoice is $801.00 for dusting and washing his rug, treating it with an enzyme wash for pet accidents (like urine and feces), and treating it with a moth protectant, because the rug showed signs of prior moth infestation and moth damage.  The owner of the store is willing to reduce the invoice to $500.00.  Usually we only accept payment by cash or check or credit card with a 3% fee.  We are willing to run a credit card charge for $500.00 without the additional 3% fee.
