Date of incident: July, 22, 2024, 6:30pm CDT.First of all, I feel that this is a classic locksmith scam. Here's what happened: I locked myself out of my house while walking my dog. We just moved, my wife was out of town, and I hadn't had the opportunity yet to give friends and family spare keys. I needed to call a locksmith, so I googled "locksmiths Evanston" and called one of the top hits named *******'s ************* The phone was answered by a dispatch person who got me in touch with a technician who could arrive in 18 minutes. I was quoted a $29 service fee and asked for a quote for the work which the dispatch would not provide. The technician arrived in an unmarked passenger car and said that I had locks that could not be picked and would have to be drilled. I asked for the price and he said $150 for the job. He replaced the doorknob that he drilled, which I was not aware was part of the agreement, and charged me $150 for that along with $250 for the house lockout, which is not what he said at all. All in, with the $29 service fee and $21 credit card fee, this ran me $450. He also took a photo of my driver's license for "fraud prevention," which made me extremely uncomfortable. I was suspicious about how that could be and retraced my steps. I looked back at the phone number I called, compared it to that listed for *******'s ************ online, and realized it was a different number entirely. I also looked at the receipt I was issued and it is from Garage And Lock Services INC., a different company that I thought I was dealing with. I did more research, looking at Garage And Lock Services INC on the BBB and it has an F rating and 1 star average with all respondents saying this business is illegitimate, a scam, and with experiences like mine. This is my first time calling a locksmith and didn't know what to look out for, but it carries all the signs of a scam.

Purchased secondary car key for backup. Didn't use the key because it wasn't previously needed. However, when I needed the key it doesn't work. Called vendor "Garage and lock service". I was told that the only thing that can be done is to buy another key.

On Sat. May 13, 2023 I could not use the outside lock of my gate in front of my house because the key would not turn. I was not locked out at any time. I called three lock smiths and the first to respond was ********(?) ************ ************ whos repair man, *********************, said he would replace my lock with a premium lock which was pick proof for $475 plus labor. We agreed and he then removed the old lock, but could not install a new lock. He then said he would substitute parts from our old lock and proceeded to dismantle it. That failed, but he said he would return with the correct parts. He then returned without our being aware he had returned. By that time he had disconnected our buzzer system and was installing a dead bolt system. He then said he was charging us $829, but would work with a buzzer company if a new buzzer could be installed. He gave us his card and we then used our credit card as he said he would get in trouble if we did not pay him on the spot. The next Monday he gave us the name of ************ Company whom we called. They requested pictures of what had been done to date and advised that the person who did the work was incompentent and we had been defrauded. The said the lock replaced was of average quality and inappropriate. They then came out and replaced the lock and a new buzzer for $608.00.We then numerous times called both ******** and the repair man ********************* who said someone would call but never did. They have refused to have the lock they installed returned saying they did not have a location of business.

On July 2, I locked my keys inside of my car and required a locksmith to open. On the website, they mentioned they charge a maximum of $230. On arrival tat 11:30 PM, the technician told me he would charge me 392. After opening the car, he told me there would be a $75 Emergency Roadside fee for a total of 467.. I called **************** to complain about the overcharge. They returned the call the following morning and they claimed they will refund me the amount of $167 for the overcharge. On the call, I brought up the fact that that night, when driving the car, I noticed the interior lights would not shut off and the car would not correctly identify when the driver door was closed. Now the car reads as if the driver door is always open. Prior to that night, I never had this issue so it is clear something the technician did that damaged my car. Upon notifying them of this and providing video and images to request a full refund, ******* from their customer service told me she spoke with her **************** and they said there was nothing they could do about it and they were not at fault. I requested to speak to someone at **************** and she refused to transfer me. I wish to receive not just $167 but a full refund for their services as they not only overcharged me, but also damaged my car.

Was locked out of my apartment and called the locksmith. Was quoted a price of $135 over the phone and once again when the locksmith arrived. The locksmith was just supposed to let me in my apartment. He ended up changing the locks and charged me the ridiculous price of $1,356. He was there less than 10 minutes! Called the company and they said they would call me back and hung up on me quickly.

I contacted this business because my car wouldnt start. When the locksmith arrived I showed him that the car could crank when I gave power to the starter. He went made a key. That key alarmed the security system and now the car wont crank at all. He said that he would contact a master tech and schedule to come back to my home. He has rescheduled with me 3 times with no viable solution. He asked to be pre-paid I have attached my receipt.

He unlocked the door k*** on a garage. Took literally about 5 seconds with a little flat looking thing with a bulb on the end that he slid between the door and frame then pumped the little bulb a few times and the door opened immediately. He charged $120 which I thought was ridiculous but ok if thats the price. But what really put me over the edge was the fact he then said oh, I have to charge you tax on this.$12. So it cost total $132. Which I paid but I thought you couldnt charge tax on a service in ********. There was absolutely no product involved at all and he took his little tool thing he used to open the door. I asked a friend whos in the know about taxes and he said they absolutely should not be doing that in ********. So I think I will make some phone calls.
