On 02/13/24 I called and scheduled a tow with Speedy G Towing. *** tow was quoted as "$139 for a hookup, and $4 per mile." I agreed to the quote.*** tow representative arrived. I got confirmation they were with Speedy G . *** tow truck didn't say "Speedy G". *** tow truck was branded and labeled with "Sergeants ********************************** ** CC ******. ** DOT 4041246.*** tow employee asked for the key and started the tow process.A few minutes later the tow employee asked if I would assist in moving the car a bit. *** car does not turn on, does go into neutral. I didn't see any alternative, I got behind my car, and assisted in pushing it to the specified spot.*** employee then proceeded to load the car onto the flatbed. I and the employee re-confirmed the destination address and agreed to meet each other there. We arrive at the location. *** location is less than 4 miles away, 3.2, from the source location of the vehicle. Tow driver instructed where to put car.*** tow employee provided me with a quote that made no sense to me. $139 $14? and another $39(definitely). ***se were not the charges I agreed to. I agreed to pay the $139 for the tow, and $4 per mile. I expect the mileage charge to start from where my car is at. THAT IS NOW HOW THIS COMPANY DOES BUSINESS.I explain to the tow employee that these are not the charges I agreed to. I ask who to speak with, he tells me to call back same number. I call back the same number. *** representative argues with me at length that the charges are right. He then requotes the 139 and $4/m. I said yes, and the tow was less than 4 miles. *** representative then states they charge starting from their destination lot. I didn't agree to start the mileage fee from their place of business. That was not explained, and not common practice.I tried conveying my stance, how I am willing to pay, but a fair price. Speeding this up. I had to pay in order to avoid the tow truck from taking my car. Felt like blackmail.Initial Complaint

On 1/20/24 my car broke down in ************* ********, on Waveland and ********. I needed to get off the street so I looked for a towing company near me, this is where the predatory behavior started, the ad mentioned that Speedy G Towing was in Schiller Park, so I called, they quoted me ****** plus mileage , come to find that out they added hidden fee after hidden fee once towed.Example of hidden fee:1. They sent the driver from 23 miles away, probably **************** where they are located, and not ************* as they advertised, then they proceeded to charge me for all that mileage just to come to get me.2. When the charges climbed over 340 dollars, the only option to pay is a credit card, they added another 30 or so dollars to process the card. These charges took the towing from what should have been around 200 to 340 dollars. I am not looking for a full refund, but I think a fair middle would be to get 100 dollars back from all those hidden fees. The other outcome I am looking for is to figure out how to make them stop , I see the reviews here and about 50 people have been taken advantage by this predatory company. It is not fair, or right that they can continue to do business as they currently operate.Initial Complaint

Called to get a tow to get my sons car out of a ditch in ice conditions. Was told $195 plus mileage. The car was towed less than 10 miles and the total bill ended up being $595! This is unacceptable business practice and highway robbery.Initial Complaint

This took place today, Saturday 01/20/24. - This business charged me $320 when their advertised price was $65 and they refused to give me their name or a quote over the phone.- The business promised to have someone arrive quickly to tow me out of the snow on my driveway my car had become stuck on. - Instead this driver arrived nearly an hour late. When he had finished the whole 5 minutes of work and 6 inches of pulling it took to get my car free he told me it would be $320. This was in ***** contrast to the listed ****** price, typical tow fees, and common sense. He told me this only while my car was still latched to his truck, the implication being that that if I did not pay this blatantly extortionate fee he would take my car. They also still have not sent the promised receipt. So to reiterate they about lied/obfuscated their prices, held my car as a hostage, and failed to provide any kind of receipt in a reasonable timeframe. They also refused to speak to my insurance company. - The business was unwilling to modify the grossly inflated price at all, and again has not provided any kind of receipt or breakdown of how they justify a $320 fee. -They were running an ad on ****** when I searched for tow services. The ad claimed their rates "started" at $65, I knew it would almost certainly be higher. However, if you look at the other complaints, or any publicly listed reviews like yelp NO ONE has gotten anything near that $65 rate. They also refuse to give you an estimate or price breakdown over the phone and finding an actual email for them is next to impossible.I am disputing their payment with my bank, this was blatant extortion. Also, I wanted to provide a screencap of their false advertising, but since filing a complaint with the *** their ad has "mysteriously" disappeared, even when I search for it directly.Initial Complaint

I Called them because I was winched from the side of the road I asked for a price before hand they said they would have to see how far I was of the road ( I was on the side of the road in the ditch about 8feet out ) after being winched back into the road I had to drive myself home and to my surprise , they charged me $695 I Asked for a receipt and was told it would be emailed yet to receive one. Then I checked my credit card and payment posted for $741 I called other tow services and they all told me they would not charge more then $250 for that service . $741 is much excessive not even a tow from ******* to your house it that much. Please help me . I dont expect a full refund but would like to receive compensation for the excessive last minute quote and for the overcharged amount that was processed.Initial Complaint

I had to get my car towed due to the serpentine belt snapping. I had it towed 10 minutes down the road, about 5 miles. **** the phone, they would not give me an estimate, and when the tow truck driver arrived, I asked for a price, and he said he doesn't know those details, they handle it back at the shop. When he finally brought my car back he said the cost was over $300. This business seems predatory, they were my only option in the area, and way overcharged me for a very short drive. It only took the driver 25 minutes to get to my car after I called, so high mileage on the truck's end is out of the question. This almost seems illegal.Even the high end of $7 per mile that some companies do wouldn't add up to $346.Initial Complaint

On 11/20/23 at 3:50 PM I got a flat tire in my car on 294 northbound. I went to ****** to search for tow companies near *** ************************ popped up. The first thing that popped up with them is towing starting at $64.99. I called them up to see if they could help me out and the dispatcher that I spoke to asked me if I happen to have a spare tire that they could help me switch to. I informed them that I did not as I had bought the car use, and he responded back with that he understood used cars dont usually come with them , he asked for my location and my mile marker and said he would dispatch somebody out to me. I asked him if he had an estimate how much it was going to cost to tow my car, and he said that he did not, and would not until they figured out exactly how far it was going to be. Before I could even respond with where I was looking to go, he said somebody would contact me shortly with a tow and hung up. Finally, I get a call saying that the tow driver was on the way and they wanted to know what side of the shoulder I was on and that they would send me a link letting me know exactly what time they were going to be there. I asked again if they had an estimate and he ignored me & hung up. with the fact that it said it started at $64.99, I was hopeful that it wouldnt be too bad of a price. The tow truck driver got there about 40 minutes later, and told me that the dispatcher told him that he was just fixing a flat tire, and I told the tow truck driver that I didnt and would need to go to a shop. They get the car attached and drive the 1.7 miles to the shop where the driver then tells me we owe $495. When I told him that I was shocked that it cost so much he said I would have to call the dispatcher to see if they could do anything about the price. The dispatcher then said he remembered my call and started yelling at me telling me I never asked him about the price (I had someone in the car with me) and that there was nothing he could do and hung up on me.Initial Complaint

On 10/25/20** we had one of our trucks brake down in Petro truckstop in ******** **. We called Speedy G towing and asked about their service how much it cot to tow 40 miles to Truck Country in Hampshire **. They advised $195 per hour for the tow and it would be 2.5-3hrs so about $600. Once they had truck hooked up after about 20 mins, not even being at drop point they sent invoice for $3134 and requiring to pay right away or they will take truck to their impound lot and there will be additional charges to release truck. We asked why the invoice amount is 5 times more then what they quoted, they responded that this is what we need to pay or they are taking truck to impound lot. On GPS tracker we saw that they stopped at rest are to wait for payment. We advised that they have to take truck to the place we asked and we will only then can pay. Police was called to drop point to see if they can help with this H353**1303035383334H robbery, police was not able to do anything, advised only to file a complaint against this H353**1303035383334H. Police report # **-04454 ********************** After the incident we looked into this company and it has numerous accounts on ****** for their business and they all have bad ratings. Numerous people reporting this kind of behavour where they say one price and when they get vehicle they demand many times more then they quoted and threaten to take trucks to impound lots to pay even more. This business has to be stopped acting this way, it brings bad name and reputation to normal working people and companies. It is unheard of that for bobtail H353**1303035383334H 50 miles H353**1303035383334H would charge $3134.Initial Complaint

I called for a Tow struck 10/12/23 and the girl I spoke with was pleasant and seemed helpful but I was wrong. I asked her what the price would be and she stated 95 to hookup to the truck and 4 dollars per mile and nothing else. I agreed to that because I know its only 2 miles to my destination. Fast forward the tow truck driver picks up my vehicle and gets to the destination and tells me its 195. I asked how and come to find out you also have to pay for the 13 miles they travel or from whatever location they are dispatched from to do their job. The lady on the phone conveniently left this part out smh. This is not right and illegal to withhold information about pricing when customers are asking for a quote. The whole point is they should be transparent and honest and stop trying to rip people off. So the full cost that I was charged that Speedy G Towing did not disclose during the quote is:Unloaded/ Enroute Mileage 13 miles cost ***** (to Drive to you)Loaded/Hooked Mileage 4miles cost16.00 (To my Destination )Fuel Surcharge cos ***** Tow hookup fee ***** I hope this helps others not to be ripped off!!!!
