My wife and I purchased a home with Heartland Homes of Kentucky out of Carrollton, Kentucky 2 years ago. We signed a contract as a package purchase that we were not only purchasing the home, but along with them contracting out all the work as far as, electric , water lines, septic system, etc as part of our bid. Firstly I’d like to start with saying in our contract excavation work was not part of it. So we spent out of pocket over $10,000 in order to prep the land to have it the way we wanted and to shed water properly, in turn heartland had a crew of their contractors come out on a bulldozer and remove several trees without any form of permission. While that crew of contractors were there with equipment , Heartland stated that they were in need of “fill dirt” in order to cover septic tanks/lines. Again without asking they absolutely destroyed a piece of our property where they took a huge section of soil out of what would have been our backyard and left it sitting ungraded, which now stands full of water. Secondly, a septic system that in our contract is labeled as a $20,000 upgrade started leaking and had water pooling above ground about 8 months after moving in. 1 of the 2 septic tanks that they set is also extremely visible. They left it with no lid on it, for dirt, grit, and grime to fall into the tank. I feel as if I was taken advantage of and paid money for services that I did not receive. If I am to fix this septic system issue on my own it will cost me $10-15,000 of my own money to fix their mistakes. As far as inside the home there are many issues that they said they would fix and didn’t. After addressing these issues for months they officially stated they will no longer address the issues they know we have and sent us directly to the manufacturer which is based 17 hours from our home. We had a warranty stated in our contract that anything reported up to one year would be fixed and or taken care of all of which remains to be untrue two years later.
