I Brought my vehicle in for a routine maintenance transmission service, I specifically asked them if they carried the correct synthetic transmission fluid for my car. Technician stated ”They have something comparable to it” after the service was complete and almost $200.00 later I left and went home. The next couple of days my transmission shift points were shifting rough. I brought. My vehicle to my local dealership the following week, uneasy about the behavior of my transmission I asked the dealer to look at possible malfunctioning occurring with the transmission . The results came back stating valvoline used a conventional transmission fluid, I was told 3rd, 4th, gears may not return to normal shifting point behavior. The dealership advisor stated I may need a new transmission.?? ???????
$345.00 later after another transmission fluid change plus diagnostics I am furious to say the least.. The manager from the Valvoline location I went to in Eagan, MN stated “Because I brought my vehicle to a dealership and not to them, there is nothing they can do” They clearly are trying to get out of not fixing my vehicle and paying me back the money I spent with them.(Absolutely appalling, disrespectful and disappointing it was to hear that) As if I would bring my vehicle back to them after what happened!! My transmission was just fine prior to their service. You would think a supposedly creditable place of business would make it right. Of course they know It’s a high chance I will need a new trans. they want nothing to do with it.. It definitely shows true character, an oil company of all companies will stay willfully ignorant and screw the consumer over.. I’m seeking a refund for $167.00 I paid them, plus the $245.00 I had to pay the dealership. Also be accountable for a possible new transmission if my shift point don’t improve. I will not rest until they satisfy my request.Business Response

I went to get an oil change on Jan. 27, 2023 at Valvoline on Shelbyville Rd In Louisville, Ky. My car was fine before I went to get the oil change. A few hours later my Emissions Control light came on. I called the company back and explained what happened. Was towed back to Louisville and the next morning I went back to the location and the mgr redid the entire oil change and cleaned the full system for free. He offered to pay for my spark plugs to get fixed as well. The mgr name is Jeremy. He told me they are not responsible for the damage that was caused to my 2019 Kia Soul. I’ve had my car oil chs at the exact location multiple times I’ve the past year and I’ve never had any problems before. I need this situation looked and solved by my car being fixed. If possible I would like to talk to a district manager of Valvoline so that they can look into this matter deeper as well as you all can do so. I’ve only had my car for a year and I’ve never had any mechanical issues.
Thank you for taking the time to read my issue and look forward to you helping me in this matter.Business Response

We are in receipt of this guest's complaint. We want to make this guest aware that all claims decisions are made by the store management team and often the regional management team is in alignment with this decision. Our records indicate that the store manager reviewed the footage from this guests visit and determined that all aspects of the services the guest received when they were at our service center were correct. Additionally, they found that there was a code on the vehicle for a misfire which, typically is a spark plug issue, and something our service center does not replace. Because of this, the issues the guest is experiencing are not directly related to the services they received at our facilities. The management team did advise this guest that if the dealership determines that the issues the guest is experiencing happen to be oil related that they're willing to reopen the claim, as it stands currently however the claim is denied.Initial Complaint

I changed oil and filter at Valvoline at 18330 Pines Blvd on 1/9/23 ( see copy of invoice for $ 100.14) .
On Jan 30th , 23 while driving in Miami Lakes the minivan suddenly stopped operating and went dead.
Upon towing I noticed the oil filter was missing .However I had it towed to a body shop nearby for inspection where it was corroborated the oil filter was indeed missing .I have one technician willing to testify this fact. The van was then towed on same day to ***** ***** as I have an extended warranty but Ocean Mazda
commented no extended warranty covers oil filter missing.I filed a claim under ref ********* with Valvoline and reported incident at their web site on same day.The van was inspected one day later by one officer of Valvoline and on Feb 7th the claim was verbally declined by ** **** ******* **** artificial arguments. The engine was destroyed so I authorized ***** ***** to install a used one at a cost $ 4,918.19 ( see invoice) .In content of same invoice the dealer ***** ***** states the cause of engine damage was lack of oil and oil filter missing.
Since in this matter the integrity and track record of the individual who submits the claim may be at stake I declare that I have had more than 8 vehicles thru 32 years in USA and never faced this kind of experience. My wife ******* who was in the van and myself have a family business for 32 years in international trade. My three sons graduated from ******** ******** ***** *** **** ************** respectively.
The cold fact is the van failed because of loss of the filter and Valvoline should be responsible for the consequences.Let alone all the hours of time lost, Uber costs, towing costs, inconvenience, etc derived from this completely unexpected event .Business Response

We are in receipt of this guests claim. We want to advise this guest that both the regional and store management team for each location are responsible for determining the outcome of claims guests have after services are received at one of our service centers. Our records indicate that the reason for denial has been expressed to this guest and is partially due to the fact that there was no blowback from the oil filter while the vehicle still had oil, there was no oil on the filter. This decision is final, the claim is considered denied and closed and no further action will be taken.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:The answer states that "there was no oil in the filter" .This answer has no relation at all with the claim in that the main reason for the claim is the oil filter was missing in the van and the reason for failure of the engine was lack of oil and filter missing .I assume they did not even bother to read the note and the invoice from ***** ***** declaring the cause of the fatal damage to the engine was lack of oil and filter missing .

I am rejecting this response because:In this process thru the BBB it is clear the Valvoline company has made up their decision flatly and categorically rejecting the facts expounded in my claim .We are three witnesses : One technician at a mechanical shop prior to towing the vehicle to ***** ***** , the technician at ***** ***** and myself who noticed physically the oil filter was missing in the van versus the "inspection" of the van after the event by Valvoline .

I took my Infiniti SUV to Valvoline Instant Oil Change (4909 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY) for what is supposed to be a simple oil change. I just wanted a quick, easy oil change on 3/4/23. Instead, my car is now leaking oil in multiple places. THERE WAS NO OIL LEAK before I went to this horrible place. Went back again this morning, 3/5/23, to tell them about it. They admit that the oil filter was loose and that they didn't clean up well. But after I left again, it is still leaking a LOT! I called their "customer service" hotline and told them what happened. They claimed that someone might call me back about this claim. But they said there is nothing else they can do about it! I want them to fix what they messed up, so my car is not leaking oil. It was absolutely fine before I took it to them.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: it's a complete lie that I hung up on anyone. This company is so irresponsible. I talked to someone on the phone with their customer service line. The person was very unprofessional. They had a very thick southern accent that was hard to understand. I heard babies crying in the background. I asked them repeatedly what the next step was, and they said "there is nothing else I can do." And NOBODY from corporate office ever called me back. It's just a continuation of the horrible, irresponsible service of this company. AFTER already causing my car to leak badly and me to have to go back to the same pathetic store three days in a row.

I received a full synthetic oil change 3 days ago from the Valvoline Instant Oil Change location in Laguna Niguel. Upon arrival and throughout the entire time it took to complete the service, I saw 3 different service technicians smoking on vape pens and blowing out smoke which absolutely REAKED of Marijuana. I understand medicinal Marijuana is legal in California, but it is completely UNACCEPTABLE for you to allow your employees to smoke pot while working on customer cars, let alone working with heavy duty machinery. That's a huge safety problem! it is unprofessional, unpleasant for those customers who rather not be bombarded with Marijuana smoke and strong odors making it hard for customers to BREATHE. I have had Asthma since I was a child, I was frightened I would have an asthma attack right then and there, because the smoke was that bad. Long story short, when I arrived back home the following morning just to find fresh dark oil spots coming from underneath my car (which stained my garage cement floor permanently). I took my car to the dealership the same day and the dealership mechanic told me that the Valvoline crew members who were HIGH working on changing my oil the day prior had stripped the treads on my oil drain plug and caused a leak. I was furious! Called and spoke to the area manager (?) and he denied me a refund because I didn't want to take my car back to the same people who were smoking weed and getting HIGH while working on my car and ultimately damaged my car due to the fact. WHY WOULD I WANT TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SAME PLACE THAT DAMAGED MY CAR? I gave you a chance to fix my car the first time I took it there to get an oil change-And they couldn't even do that. The logic the area manager (?) has for denying me a refund is absolutely ludicrous. I'm a U.S. Marine Veteran.Business Response

Our
records indicate that this guest did have a claim that was investigated by our
upper management team. Our Area Manager and requested that the guest bring the
vehicle in so we could look at the leak they stated they had. They refused and
requested a refund. The Area Manager advised that we could not proceed with the
claim without being able to assess the vehicle, at which point the guest stated
they would file a chargeback for the services. This guest was provided a free
oil change and an oil change for a service experience/long wait complaint on
3/17/2022. They then called our Customer Care team on 10/22/2022, requesting
another free oil change in addition to the one that was already received and
the refund. This was declined. The guest reached out again on 11/15/2022 and
requested a free oil change, stating their wait was long and customer service
was poor. They were provided the free oil change. They reached out again on
11/22/2022 stating that their headlight was damaged after service, they were
asked to return so our team could look at the light. Upon return, the light was
properly working. The guest called again a few days later stating that their
headlight fell out and wanted a replacement at no charge. We did not carry the
bulb for this vehicle and declined providing a replacement or further
compensation. This was due to the previously denied claim, as no damage was
done to the vehicle upon an in person inspection by our team. The guest called
and started this claim 3/1/2022 and it was denied due to the guests refusal to
bring the vehicle to be inspected, as stated above. The claim has been closed
and we will be unable to provide any further coupons or refunds. No further
action will be taken.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: VALVOLINE INSTANT OIL CHANGE EMPLOYEES ARE NOT CERTIFIED AND TRAINED MECHANICS. THEY ARE AMATEURS. Employees, their so called "Technicians" smoke Marijuana with vape pens whilst working on customers cars.So these employees are, 1. Not certified trained Mechanics, and B. They're get high while on the job and working on customers cars.
Also, Valvoline has a long history of refusing to refund or pay back customers whose cars were damaged by Valvoline amateur intoxicated employees. Thanks for the damages to my car, Valvoline!
Valvoline also doesn't care about U.S. Veterans or their families.
Valvoline is another pathetic corporation, whose customer service is without a doubt no longer considered good whatsoever by the American public. This company has turned into a legitimate dumpster fire.

Went for NYS Inspection. During inspection, Valvoline said their machine could not connect to NYS Dept of Transportation. They said I need to come back, but would not schedule another appointment. Said I should come back in a week. They then charged me $21 for an inspection that NEVER WAS COMPLETED DUE TO VALVOLINE FAULTY MACHINE.
I tried coming back, but the only person who could do this kept calling out sick. I had to go to another place, and Valvoline did not refund me the $21 for SERVICES NEVER RENDERED.Business Response

On December 3rd I visited valvoline on Sawmill Rd. In Dublin Ohio I paid $117 and ****** change for an oil change on my 2020 Hundayi Elantra on February 25th 2023 while driving my car down the street my car shut off and would not cut back on. I had my car towed to ****** to have it serviced and the noticed that the oil plug had not properly been secured from the previous oil change. They assured me that was the only possible option as to why it had not been present when they serviced the car. When reaching out to valvoline they declined responsibility and did not agree to cover the cost of the new engine.
The engine is locked up and it’s not repairable. The reasons is due to the oil change not properly being conducted and the plug being secured properly. The costs of the new engine is over $12,000 dollars and Valvoline should be fully responsible for the costs as they caused the issue.Business Response

Horrible customer service-Starting from ********
Damaged car and will not take responsibility
My car was serviced by ******** Monday, 02/27/23. I went to Valvoline on Airline rd/Greenacres in Bossier city,La to have my car serviced because of oil light coming on and engine light blinking (Sun. evening 02/26/23)
Sticker on car from Valvoline shows next service date as 06/13/23 or mileage 118,813.
Yesterday, when ******* serviced my car the odometer read, 118,033.
He checked the oil and said, & I quote your oil level is pretry low and seems that "conventional oil was put in your car last oil change vs. the usual Synthetic. (of course I'm looking confused bc I do not know the difference, I just drive up and ask for the usual oil change), but I digress....he continued to state, Conventional oil runs out after 3,000 miles,so my oil had burn away" he also follows with "its ok, we don't expect you to all of those details"
He then says "I'll fill it back up and just come back on 800 miles when you're actually due. I won't charge you anything today" I said, "okay, thanks"
This event took place 11:03am and I was back home by 11:30am
At 6pm after I'm off from work ( WFH)
I go outside and Oil is covering my carport. I drive back to Valvoline and inform the closing workers of the issue.
Worker (whom name I did not catch, but will gain later) checks oils and come back says, "your oil low, you want me to top it off?" My response is "I don't know what you NEED to do, I jut know my car is pouring out oil" He checks a few things come back to my window and now says "you gotta hole, you must've hit something"
Let me add I did NOT hit a thing.
And I also informed him, I did not.
He of course became defensive and said, I would have to return tomorrow morning because the manager was not in.
He put more oil in the car, sent me on my way so they could close. I made it maybe 12miles and my car stopped.
I was stranded on side of the road 7:05pm to after 8pm. And my car is still there!Business Response

We are in receipt of this guests claim. The claim has has been thoroughly investigated by our upper management team. Per our notes, you stated on 02/27/2023 that something was wrong with the car and the technician discovered there was no oil in the vehicle. At that time, you requested a quart of oil to be added to the vehicle and oil change indicator light to be reset. These things were completed. Your vehicle was driven 4,500 miles past the 3000 mile interval, additionally you switched from Full Synthetic Oil to Conventional, this is not recommended. Now on 2/28/2023 you stated that there was oil in your driveway and none in the vehicle. It was later found that a hole was in your oil pan during the investigation, which could not have been caused by our service. Due to these findings, upper management has denied the claim. Therefore, this claim has been closed, denied, and no further action will be taken.
