  Dan appeared to be easy to work with when I hired him to create a home blueprint for my retirement home. I can't read blueprints but the layout/floor plan looked like what I wanted. When I contacted a builder to get an estimate on building the home, the estimate was about $70,000 higher than what I expected. After discussing it with the builder, I realized the draftsman had inserted his own personal ideas into the blueprint that was supposed to be created with what I wanted. I had stressed the need to build a very simple, modest home and told Dan I would have to rely on him to fill in the gaps with the less expensive specs. After contacting Dan to discuss the expensive specs he added without me knowing, he simply stated he put in things that were his personal choices if he didn't have any information from me about those things. I then said I needed to have those things taken out and replaced with what I wanted, not what he wanted. I was shocked he would add the 9' ceilings knowing it would add about 25% to the total cost of the home and then not even tell me about it. He said he would make those changes and then he charged me an additional $240 to remove his imbedded ideas and replace them with what I actually wanted. When I expressed yet more shock that he would charge me to remove things he purposely added without me knowing, he replied with indignance and said he didn't appreciate me accusing him of adding things without me knowing and purposely causing the home cost to skyrocket an additional 25%. He then went on to say it was my lack of good research that ended with me getting an estimate that was $70,000 more than what I expected when it was the addition of his personal specs that drove the cost up that much. The builder I had contacted backed up that claim. Dan went on further to let me know he dropped me as a client and would not be finishing the blueprint even after I paid an additional $240 for the changes.

  This client hired me to produce his new home blueprint plans. During the drafting of all of my client's plans, I asked them every step of the way to approve each phase of the plan. This client approved the foundation plan, this client approved the framing plan, this client approved the electrical plan, and this client approved the roofing plan. He stated several times that he was very pleased with my services. This client approved all of the final blueprint layout sheets that were created according to his specifications. His plans were completed on 2-24-23. This client stated that I charged him $240 for changes," that is not true. If it is true I would like for him to show proof of that" in his reply.
  I will tell you what really happened this client received a bid from a builder and it was more money than he was wanting to spend so this client had to blame someone which was me. I called and talked to this client and let him know that I would make changes for him if he wanted me to. But he was so busy blaming me for producing his blueprint plans with his specifications. The other day, I decided there is nothing I can do to please this client so therefore I emailed him to let him know that I will not work for him anymore. The good thing is he has his final blueprints that were completed to his specification as of 2-24-23 and he has paid up in full.

  First, let me say that I, along with almost every other person not in the drafting or building business, cannot read a blueprint to confirm or verify anything. I did not give my acceptance on the frame plan, the electrical plan, the plumbing plan, or any other plan. I told the draftsman that, as far as I could tell, everything looked good on the layout/floor plan. He said he designed the home exactly the way I wanted it. In actuality, he designed the home exactly the way he wanted it. Even though I stressed several times that I would have to rely on him to fill in the gaps with a very simple and modest design, he intentionally added the most expensive specs for lighting and windows and he added 9' ceilings, instead of 8' ceilings, when I didn't ask for 9' ceilings. The addition of the 9' ceilings alone added about $55,000 to the cost to build the home. In total, his design with his own personal additions drove the cost to build the home up an additional $70,000. The builder who I spoke to said he could build the home at the $210,000 price I had expected but he couldn't do it with the expensive specs added by the draftsman. As far as the $240 fee, when I sent the original complaint, the draftsman had sent me an authorization form to extract a payment of $240 which I signed and agreed to so at that point, I assumed my credit card had been used for that payment. After I sent the email complaining about paying him to remove his own personal additions, he dropped the charge. I am still left with a set of blueprints which I paid $1800 for and now they are worthless because I can't afford to build a home that is priced at $70,000 more than what I wanted due to the extra personal additions which were all added without my knowledge. He didn't ask me or tell me about the additions and I would have never been able to catch those additions without the builder telling me those additions were added and that they were the reason the home cost was $70,000 more than it should have been. Dishonest draftsmen, like Dan Wentworth, create designs with extra expensive additions so the client will be forced to go back to the draftsman for changes so the draftsman can then remove the expensive additions, all at the expense of the client. I deserve to get a full refund for a job that was, at best, shady and not even close to being completed. Dan Wentworth did not deliver what he had promised. He lied about what he had delivered making me think I had something that I didn't. He hid all his expensive additions in the blueprint sections that I cannot read. That is a very deceitful ploy to use in order to maximize profits from each design.

  This company is outstanding. Dan did a fantastic job creating our custom home plans. The plans and pictures are very professional and exactly what we wanted. Dan was so helpful and full of information on things to think about and consider during the planning process. I would recommend him to anyone thinking of creating a custom home.
