    I hired attorney Steven Merritt in August 2023 to facilitate an adoption for me. I paid him $1,500.00 August 16, 2023. To date the adoption has not been completed and I cannot reach Attorney Merritt. I have emailed him approximately 7 times since January 9, 2024 with no response. His office phone number is no longer in service. I contacted the ******************** on May 7, 2024 but they had no info to offer as to his well-being or whereabouts. I contacted the ******************** but they were unable or unwilling to help me locate him. As part of the adoption process, he requested the original birth certificate of the adoptee supposedly for the courts. As of May 7, 2024, the birth certificate has not been returned.

    I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint.  I have tried again and again to find Steven Merritt both in ** and ***** but to no avail.

    I hired Attorney ***** Merritt early December 2024. I paid him *******. He was to assist me in filing for conservatorship for my brother. My brother had lived in the ****************** with a girlfriend. My brother was diagnosed with a condition called Wernickes disease. It is a type of dementia. He is rapidly declining. My brothers money goes into an account at ************* He has no memory of how to access his money. I believe that the girlfriend does. The only reason I am trying to get conservator is so when he passes his children can have his funds. My brother currently lives in a nursing home on a dementia unit. Its called ****** in ****** *************. The address is ************************ ****** ************* *****. Phone number **************. Attorney Merritt does not answer my calls, texts, or emails. As you can see this is a short window of time for me to accomplish this. There have been zero steps taken in this case. Is there a way to get my money back to hire another attorney? Are there pro **** lawyers who do this? I am extremely upset over this matter. I do not have more money. My brother is a veteran, he has 100 percent coverage by the veteran association. Thank you.
