I have been a long time user of **********************, and I guess the takeaway I have is that it is great as long as you don't encounter any problems with the car. If you have a problem, they follow up takes forever. Calling for support is like banging your head against a brick wall as you have to explain the issue again and again and again. The unlocking mechanism on the car i was using stopped working. I had groceries in the back and it was in a parking garage. It was impossible to work with them to resolve the problem and retrieve any non perishable items that were still good. It took two weeks for me to get them back, with half the items not usable. I am still waiting for the last of the reimbursements a month later! Terrible service. I will not use them again.

Steer clear of Zipcar.I had a Zipcar membership for years. Almost every car either reeked of cigarette smoke or was covered in pet hair. Once we found a car had a completely flat tire on pickup. Plans ruined. Last straw was a $50 "late fee" for a ********************************************************* the middle of a winter storm. No one else was around waiting for a car. It's as if they've never rented cars before, and don't know what the process is like. If you do a search on ******** or other review sites you'll see many similar experiences. So long Zipcar.

Horrible experience. The zipcar my freshman in college daughter used in Northridge broke down on the way home and she had to wait over two hours at night for someone to come help her. Never use them! I would give them a zero if I could.

Zipcar is bait and switch operation and then won't refund registration fees. Avoid.

I booked a trip on 11/22/22. The car was in the most disgusting condition I've ever seen. The interior console and seats were covered in oil, and a shattered bottle of LUBRICANT was left inside along with trash and debris. The interior smelled rancid. Completely unusable.I immediately reported the issue to Zipcar with photos but got no response. I was stranded in a parking garage with no other options, and had to pickup my elderly parents at the airport, so I had no choice but to try and wipe down the car and use it. It took me 30 minutes to clean the interior enough to make it driveable (though still disgusting and smeared with oil). When I returned the car, I reached out to Zipcar again about the issue. I was told that a refund is not possible because I chose to use the car - even though my initial report was ignored and I obviously had no other options. They offered an insulting $2.50 credit. I was then charged $50 extra for a late return - because I had to spend 30 minutes cleaning lube and trash from car.I've instructed my bank to block any charges from Zipcar and do not plan to pay their demand. I cannot imagine that Zipcar management thinks this kind of customer service is acceptable or healthy for the company's public image. But clearly the customer service team has been told to not issue refunds under any circumstances, no matter how egregious the issue. Perhaps a smart revenue savings measure in the short term, certainly a bad long term strategy for customer retention, as evidenced by the company's poor earnings and lack of profitability in 22 years.

the whole company is based on false advertisement. they charge for a discounted college student membership but company failed to say that you will ONLY get the "cheap" rates IF you book your zipcar near your listed college. if you book near your home or anywhere your membership rate DOES NOT APPLY.Also rates depends on day, time and holidays, so even if you have a membership you will not get the low rates of your membership because of these factors. so what is the point of paying for a membership?I called customer service to ask about it and employees are not informed about this scam. Over the recent years Zipcar fails to keep the cars clean, always dirty, smelling like cigarettes or weed.

Its a clusterf*ck. They constantly change the booking, and its always the day off or the day before, and almost never at the same location I booked. The customer service is the worst of probably any company Ive ever encountered and they do not care about customers. I was given a car with a spare tire on it, I had to avoid highways and drive slowly, and they didnt reimburse me for the extra miles or even care that theyd put my and others safety at risk. The convenience is extremely outweighed by everything thats bad.Its wild to me that a company can be this sh*tty to customers without consequences. It really ****** me off.

The company continues to go down and down in terms of customer service and policy. When the company first started they had a very friendly customer service with the goal of always taking care of their customers. I spend over $3,000 a year in zipcar and I'm on the phone with their customer service for almost every trip with a problem that they never solve anymore. For example, they charge a $50 late fee if you bring your back after your reserved time. This is understandable during busy times like from 8am-6pm. But one time I brought back my car 39 minutes late and it was 11:40 and the refused to accomdate a high-usage customer like myself. Also, in the city I live, the zipcar spot is always taken when I come home to return the car. So I'm forced to either park illegally, because all parking is paid parking in my city, or I have to take the car to a parking garage. I choose the parking garage every time because I don't want to get a parking ticket. So now they make me pay for the garage parking. But it's not my fault because the zipcar spot is always taken. Why should I pay for the company's problems? The company has turned into the old fashioned car rental companies that "nickle and dime" their customers and treat them like they are servants to the company.

Do not work with this company. They stole $70 from me for an after I had zero business relationship with them for over 3+ years despite countless hours on the phone, including where their own representative admitted they had a data issue which caused them to charge a number of credit cards inadvertently. When I disputed the charge, they funny enough accused me of fraud. What is more upsetting is that they try to hide their unethical business practices behind a mask of "we are a nice *************** company" and "we believe in a shared future". Do not trust this company.

They are a horrible company. They allowing people to pay for vehicle but not doing service or maintenance. i rented a vehicle and the brakes was completely gone, grinding metal to metal. i reported it to them they simply allowed the car to be rented to the next person. they dont inform you if the car is there or not! they take so long to reimburse your funds and on top of everything when you constantly make reports they will discontinue your membership! Do not rely on these vehicles if there is something important! ohhhh and the vehicles parked in garages forget about getting access and zip car dont have any information of how to get inside the location where you vehicle is. They customer service is all arabic people that have no clue. They also stop taking phones after 1 am. THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!
