ZipCar experienced a service outage on 8/11/2022 that rendered their cars useless, as there was no way to unlock/lock their vehicles during the period of one's reservation. See this Tweet here and the replies for some scary stories (people being locked out of their vehicle in dangerous areas, people unable to move their car that was double-parked, people missing important appointments/flights): [BBB will not let me paste the Tweet, but see the corporate ******* account's post on 8/11/2022 for some crazy stories].This outage affected me and made my reservation useless, as I could not lock/unlock the vehicle in the middle of my reservation. ZipCar customer support was completely unavailable during the time of the outage. After finally getting ahold of customer service, I was told that I was not eligible for a refund/compensation because my reservation was "used." The fact that the car was effectively a paperweight during a significant chunk of that reservation was apparently not relevant. This company has a serious customer service problem. And their demonstrated lack of care for customers when their cars become disabled (in potentially very dangerous situations) is appalling. Do NOT use this company's services.

Absolutely disgusting vehicle, then they make it extremely difficult if not impossible to cancel your subscription. Be careful, though, because if your payment can't be auto-renewed, they will send it to collections.

Zip car has retaliated against me by closing my account. I would not allow them to charge my bank account for the service I wasn't receiving. I had premium coverage and was 100% covered with no deductible for a scratch I did to the car. I was able to use the cars for a month after and then they suspended my account. Why did they wait a month and not suspend immediately? Shortly after the suspension about 3-4 weeks they intended to charge my account for insurance and membership yearly fees. They sent me a message telling me to update my payment so I can be charged. They continued to forward me these messages for a few weeks. I was not going to let them charge me for a service I was not receiving since they suspended my account. After researching about people with similar issues I found out that Zip Car charges people a $1,000 deductible even if they have a premium which then forces the customer to have to fight for their money back. Nobody is playing games with my money so I requested a Zipcar account cancellation to avoid any fraud charges. They told me I cannot cancel, and that I need to update my payment and resolve the incident first. The incident happened 4/22, they sent me a broken link to fill out an incident form, it took me about 2-3 weeks to get the link open and fill the form. They told me they didn't receive it. I fill out another form and after a week or so I called and they said they didn't receive it again. I had proof and downloaded everything. I took evidence and forwarded it to every department that was harassing me to update my payment, fill out the form, etc, etc. They then waited till the end of 7/22 to forward the documents to the insurance *** Today 8/16/22 the recovery ***** said they are still waiting for other documents about the car to close the case and the case should be closed cause I don't owe any money. They said Zip car is the only *** that takes longer but that my case is exaggerated on the time they are taking.

Literally the worst customer service ever. They completely screwed me over. There was no gas card, I had to pay out of pocket, There was a dent. Nothing is okay with this company. It should be investigated more thoroughly.

I looked into Zipcar in 2017 as a commuter alternative in my area and ultimately decided against it. I created a username/password and did not sign up for any plan. Yesterday, I received an email from Zipcar stating that I owed $40.08. I called and was able to speak with a person relatively quickly and that person was very helpful. Here is our conversation:Employee - "How can I help you today?" Me - "I received an email from Zipcar stating that I owed $40.08. I've never used Zipcar, and I don't understand why I have a balance."Employee - "Yes, I can see you never used Zipcar on your account."Me - "Then why was I charged $40.08?"Employee - "Would you like to close your account?"Me - "Yes, but I do not want to pay the $40.08 because that is ridiculous."Employee - "Okay, I can remove the charge from your account and close your account."A few more words were spoken, and the employee stated that the account was closed and the charge was removed. As helpful as that ONE employee was, this feels like an intimidation tactic. Emailing someone and accusing them of owing you money when you can see that they have never used your services is LOW. I cannot imagine how Zipcar charges people that routinely use their services. This business should be investigated.

This service is a scam!! I just moved to LA and without an actual car I decided to give Zip car a chance, boy if I knew this was going to be the worst decision ever! First of all, the website advertises that the daily rate for a car are $80 but with fees, taxes and insurance the actual cost per day is $180 (minimum). The second issue I had was the actual car, which was left by the previous driver in DISGUSTING condition. One of the doors had actual wax threw inside of it and the floor was full of dirty hair/crumbs/used water bottles. Plus the outside of the car was full of scratches. But whatever, the car still worked so I didnt made a big deal out of it and I needed the car so it was too late to cancel at that point. The cherry on top of this joke of a service came when I needed to put gas in the car. Zipcar usually provides a gas card since the price of the gas is already charged to you when you book your car. Well, the gas card was disabled from their end and when I called their customer support team for assistance the agent told me to put my own money and send a receipt so that they can send me a refund the following day. When I finally go to send my receipt my request is denied because I used cash to pay for gas. The receipt literally has all the information of when the gas was purchase and the agent NEVER mentioned that we needed to use a credit card to purchase gas. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this service at all cost!!!!!

After 6 years as a member, I will never use Zipcar again. I placed a reservation to take a friend to the airport on Saturday, and went to pick up the car. I unlocked it and drove the car to the exit gate of the surface lot it was parked in. This is when it became a disaster. I tried using the clicker inside the car to open the gate. It didn't work. I called Zipcar and they instructed me to call the support for the parking area. I called twice, no answer. The Zipcar agents I spoke with were incompetent and could only repeat "I'm sorry" over and over. Their solution? Either I walk 40 minutes to a new car or they cancel my reservation. Of course, I did not have this time to spare. I tried scanning the barcode of the parking receipt inside the car. The machine asked me for $12, which Zipcar said they would not pay. Their support agent could not tell me how to get this car out of the lot without paying. She said she would cancel my reservation. I called back to speak to a supervisor, who was not only rude, but also informed me that the other agent did not even cancel my reservation. It appears that Zipcar has no interest in keeping customers or even providing a passable service. I was astonished by how uninformed their support agents were. Zipcar is an embarrassingly unreliable company.

How in the world does Zipcar have a A+ rating on Better Business Bureau? This does not seem to align with customers since that rating is **** which a better representation of the company. Zipcar has shifted reservations to a less convenient car parked miles from our home. They cancel our trip without response from Zipcar take sometimes hours later if at all.
