As of 5/10/2023, Zipcar, Inc. has notified BBB that they are taking several actions to improve vehicle maintenance issues including a new fleet management system, new technology including mobile app updates and Bluetooth connectivity, and the addition of a community management team.

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On October 16, 2023, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a consent order with car-sharing network Zipcar. A NHTSA investigation found that Zipcar allowed customers to rent vehicles with open recalls in violation of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Zipcar has to pay a civil penalty of $300,000 dollars.
