  This company thrives on exclusivity -having to join a club for $50 a year for total access, making customers put down a deposit on new releases, etc. But they do not provide the quality of service that justifies the expensive hoops you have to jump through for a doll. In spite of my dislike of these selective and silly practices, I put down a deposit for an Eartha Kitt doll that was supposed to ship in late November. It's two days to Christmas and the ship date has been pushed back indefinitely. This is unacceptable for an overpriced doll that required a deposit to purchase. They probably will not allow me to cancel my order, even though I have agreed that the deposit will not be refundable. Something tells me they have much higher standards for their client base than they do for themselves, and I will be required to fullfill my obligation while they don't have to fulfill theirs. This is what I get for trusting a company that works so hard just to be considered "better" than other brands.

  They purchased a house in a quiet residential neighborhood as their headquarters, and I’m skeptical that’s legal because they use it as a commercial and industrial storage facility. They also use the house and pool for parties, have an unmonitored alarm that randomly goes off (without anyone to turn it off for hours), they drive huge trucks down roads too small for divider lines. They have more in common with a fraternity than a business.

  This company advertises and markets itself as selling high quality fashion dolls. Members pay $50 to be in the "club" with priority access to ordering dolls. The prices also are high- currently $175-$200 for even fairly basic dolls. The dolls are very pretty. They have been making dolls for years now- and slowly the quality has eroded. High quality fabrics have disappeared, and now more standard fabrics are used. Elaborate screenings have disappeared. A couple of years ago, they tried replacing the painted eyes with eyes applied by sticker/waterslide. Most recently, instead of using high quality seran or nylon hair- they have been using or blending in a low quality substitute called "polypropylene" - which is what the cheapest toys and wig manufacturers use. This product feels a little rough and is difficult to work with- but most notably it breaks down with UV exposure and also just with time so that in 10 years (or less with exposure) the hair will slowly fall out or turn to dust. What's worse is that the Company, which has an entire CLUB that people pay $50 for, in order to have "priority customer service" with the company, refuses to disclose what kind of hair they are actually using in any given doll and even where designers have individually disclosed, the company is quick to "reserve the right" to make changes during production. Par for the course for Mattel I guess, but very disappointing coming from this company.
