The FTC has filed the following action in Federal District Court (Western District of San Antonio, Texas): Federal Trade Commission v. Hold Billing Service, et al.

The FTC has filed a contempt action against Billing Services Group (BSG) who was the biller responsible for cramming charges by the company Alternate Billing. Cindy Landeen is listed as the President of these companies and is mentioned in the pending action (although not a named party in the litigation), as well as several additional company names, which include the following: 800VMailbox, Alternate Billing Corporation, DigitialvMail, Double Secret Probation National Lampoon, eSafeID, Instant411, No Good TV digital, LLC, StreamingFlix and Uvolve University, MyIproducts, Identity Holdings LLC, CHCL Investments, 411Holdings LLC and Infocall.

The BBB urges consumers to use caution when coming in contact with this company or any of its DBAs due to the following issues taken either directly from the FTC filing or from the BBBs own experience with this company:

1.) MyIProducts, 800vMailbox and Digital VMail charged consumers for these (voicemail) services without their authorization, as demonstrated by voluminous consumer complaints and the fact that almost none of the consumers billed for the services ever used them.

2.) Streaming Flix billed thousands of consumers for a streaming movie service that such consumers did not authorize and they did not use.

3.) SafeID and eProtectID charged consumers for theft protection services which were neither authorized nor used.

4.) Instant411 and Infocall charged consumers for directory assistant service which were neither authorized or delivered.

5.) uVolve billed consumers for a job skills training program which included streamed videos without authorization and that few, if any, such consumers ever watched a video.

6.) 800VMailbox continues to operate today using the phone number 877-376-6502 and offers consumers a two night cruise to the Bahamas for a $59 "nominal port fee".

7.) The phone number 877-768-3661 is used as a "rewards hotline" and offers consumers a $100 Visa gift card for a "small fee" of $2.66.

8.) 877-768-3661 also offers consumers a $100 gift voucher and 12 free directory assistance calls. The gift vouchers are available to consumers for a $3.95 activation fee.

It is the BBBs strong suspicion that the two latter business models acquire the cell phone number of the caller via caller ID in order to bill such consumers recurring crammed charges for services which were not authorized or used. BBB reached out to the company requesting that they either confirm or deny this suspicion and the company has not responded.
