When creating a payment agreement for a debt, I was told to contact Gurstel if I became financially unable to pay so I could be awarded hardship.I managed the entire pandemic to pay in full and on time. Until last summer, when I couldn't feed myself due to licensure delays at DHHS (pandemic related).I contacted Gurstel and repeatedly provided proof. No effort was made to contact me despite my application being denied over and over and over.I showed proof of permanent disability from social security due to blindness. I showed proof of being below the poverty level. None of it mattered. Gurstel took me to court knowing that I was unable to pay. Knowing that I had a consistent history of paying them. 90 days of non payment despite my communication efforts resulted in our agreement being thrown out. The man serving did not serve me. He harassed my mentally handicapped wife who refused to accept it and then lied to court saying he served me. This company is taking advantage of the pandemic and the disabled citizens who were not provided financial assistance to get through the pandemic that those who were unemployed during it received. They refuse to settle despite being unable to garnish me due to my low income. They are happily allowing the interest to pile up because they cannot garnish me. They know I'm sick and dying. If they actually wanted their money, they would settle. Instead they're pushing me towards bankruptcy when I just want to die in peace. I don't want to spend my final years fighting these sharks.

This firm contacted me saying I owed almost $3,000 to what I think is a credit card company. As I said in a previous note, I don't recognize the company, and asked the firm (in a written note) for proof (dates, time, amount, whatever). Instead, they sent me a form to fill out about fraud. I don't know that there's any fraud involved, because I don't know about this debt. As of today, I still have seen any further information. My wife was once the "victim" of such an investigation when she was employed at a local law firm, and there is an increasing flurry of alleged debts we're seeing--most obviously false.Thank you for your time and attention.

The law firm took out a garnishment last year from me between the months of August and December 2022. The money was taken from my paychecks, and then the law firm didnt complete the garnishment and send my place of employment a notice to pay so my place of employment still has the payments, and the law firm went ahead and went to the court and filed a new garnishment against me and theyre now taking out the garnishment again. I have already paid In FULL. if they wouldve done their job correctly and put in the order to pay, they wouldve gotten their money last year on the garnishment instead, ** having to go through all kinds of issues and hoops to try to get my money back all because the place that took the money to begin with. Doesnt know how to do their jobs.

I had a credit card from **** of America go to collection along time ago. I totally was in the wrong at the time and take full resposibility for it. I have already been to court for this matter. My account was frozen and the money was taken from my account and given to ****************** in *******, **. towards my balance owed. Was told by the judge at the time to pay $50 a month with the interest to be frozen unless I missed a payment for the remaining balance owed. I have made every payment on time to ****************** in *******, **. since then. As of October 15th 2022 I owed $1,206.49. Out of nowhere Gurstel Law firm took over my file without me ever being told anything. I received a bill from them in the mail with a balance over $4,000. They have no explanation as to why. I spoke to several people there and I keep getting the run around. I want to finish paying them what I owe which is now $956.49 after todays payment posts 3/3/23. I believe in what's right is right and I owe them that money. For whatever reason they are charging me more, is so unfair. I would understand if there was a legit reason, but there isn't one. This has been hanging over my head for many, many years and I am so ready to move on from this matter. Every time I call, I either talk to someone that doesn't have an answer or put on hold then transferred to an answering machine. I even asked to speak to a manager (**************) @ **************. We spoke and he told me he would contact ****************** and find out what's going on. As to why they were charging me what looks like interest. He told me to call him back in a few days. I called him back twice already and straight to voicemail both times. I have left him messages and no response. I don't know what else to do. All I want is to pay them the money I owe which is $956.49. I would be willing to pay it off for the amount I owe. Can you please help me resolve this problem or maybe guide me in what my options are. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for notifying Gurstel Law Firm, P.C. (Gurstel) of the consumers Better Business Bureau complaint. We take complaints seriously and look forward to addressing her concerns.

Our records show that Gurstel received an email from the consumer on February 1, 2023, in which she alleged she is the recipient of benefits, advised she was not able to submit a settlement offer on Gurstels website and proffered a settlement.  We attempted to call her to discuss her settlement by phone on February 2, 2023, but were unable to make contact.  On February 3, 2023, we sent an email to the consumer requesting she call our office.  We spoke with the consumer on February 6, 2023, at which time we advised her to provide proof of claimed exemptions.  We do not show that we received any calls or voicemails from the consumer as to the garnishment before this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience the consumer has experienced while working with Gurstel.  We encourage her to keep in contact with Gurstel and contact an Account Representative at ************** to discuss her Account further after she has provided her exemption documents.

I was contacted by this business in December 2022. At that time they sent me paperwork, saying I owed on a debt. I told them to send me proof of this debt. They never sent me any proof. They sent me a packet in January 28th saying that I owed this debt and that they got access to my bank and sent them garnishment paperwork a week before hand. When I got this, I called the next morning to ask for proof. They said they sent it which I never got. I finally said whatever and set up payment arrangements for the debt of $807.52. The next day I saw they got access to my bank and withdrew $892.49 which is NOT what the debt was for. I called and asked why they did that and the associate was **** and said they purposely send paperwork to the bank weeks ahead of time so the customer cant close the bank and they get their money. This place couldnt even verify that this debt was mine, I found multiple people with the same name as me who have records for stealing and stuff. This place should not be in business and the way they do it is unethical beyond belief. I want my money back.

I am rejecting this response because: this business violated the ****** also known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act when they used unfair and deceptive practices to get their money. When they brought me to court to *** me and have my money garnished, they never had me served so I could fight this. They waited to tell me about this debt until after the court meeting so I couldnt show up and fight this. Then after that, they sent a garnishment to the bank weeks before they sent me any paperwork to prevent me from doing anything so they can get their money. They do this to every person and it is unfair and violates the ****** They also continue to charge interest on an account all while they take their time to send any documents so they can get more money. Thats more and more unfair practices they use to gain more and more money that isnt entitled to them. More so, they claimed to have sent me validation paperwork but I never received anything. I have received everything but the validation which makes me question if it was ever sent and they are lying to cover their ****. They have no right to my money because they violated the ***** and never gave me or any other customer a chance to fight the debt.

This company sued and garnished my wages already back in 2018 for full amount for a credit company. Gurstel sued me for the 2nd time to garnish my wages for same amount and credit company but with a different employer, I tried contacting but couldn't help me. The court dismissed it after I file a dispute and provided all documents proving my case was paid in full earlier this year. Now,Gurstel has filed another lawsuit for same amount to garnish my wages and have successfully garnished part of my wages and now I have to dispute it for the 3rd time!!! How do they get away with this?
