Gurstel Law Firm is known for predatory debt collection practices that disproportionately harm seniors and low-income consumers. The firm routinely sues individuals using mass-assigned debt portfolios with little to no legitimate proof. In many cases, they present unauthenticated spreadsheets, generic bills of sale, and affidavits from third-party companies rather than original lenders—tactics nearly identical to those used by Midland Funding, which was fined $90 million by the CFPB in 2015. Gurstel represented Midland in those cases and now appears to be using the same playbook.
This law firm regularly proceeds in court without producing the original signed loan agreement or proving an unbroken chain of title from the original creditor. Defendants, many of whom are unrepresented and unaware of their rights, are pressured into settling or risk default judgments based on legally deficient evidence. Despite formal complaints to state authorities (including Attorney General offices), Gurstel often continues litigation aggressively, ignoring consumer rights outlined under federal rules like Regulation F (12 CFR § 1006.34).
Gurstel has also pulled consumer credit without consent, raising concerns under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Their behavior amounts to systemic abuse of the courts—filing thousands of cases to extract judgments from consumers who can’t afford legal help.

These place is insane! Claiming that I didnt show up for a court appearnce in 2019? for something that was from 2007? Then sending garnishment requests several times which i sent exemptions for government assistance, which they took no action. Now, they again sent it i sent my documentation again they claim they " never recieved it" I then sent it by email everyday) certified letter with signature required. My HR dept called them and they claim its " under review" they dont return calls. The email address on their website is invalid. People laugh at you when you become frustrated. this place is a JOKE!Gurstel Law Firm, P.C.

Do not trust this company, their employees will contradict one another in hopes they can fleece you for a higher agreed amount via aggressive tactics and intimidation. They will serve you for less than $1500 and sending court associates with guns on their hips who prefer to knock hard and aggressively on your door as if they were the ATF. I highly suggest anyone dealing with them seeks legal counsel as they do not practice in good ethics or faith. Please Google their reviews if you don't believe me along with their yelp. Surprisingly they're still practicing. Everyone do not believe anything they tell you without seeking legal counsel first. I implor you do that.Gurstel Law Firm, P.C.

Gurstel Law Firm believes they do not have to follow the law and has now, on multiple occasions, gone against Minnesota Statutes. Most recently, Gurstel sent me garnishment papers to which I responded with garnishment exemption information for current and active income-based assistance. In accordance with Minnesota Statute 571.72 ALL wages are currently protected. Despite this information, Gurstel went ahead and filled a garnishment summons on an agency I am currently contracted under as a 1099 employee, which they had already been made aware of. I received no communication regarding any of this information until I called the Gurstel office and spoke with a very lovely lady who stated my assistance garnishment exemption forms had been DENIED on review (against MN Statute 571.72) but could not tell me why, as she had all necessary information in front of her including my County and case number. She attempted to reach an attorney to clarify this information and was unable to. I have emailed multiple times with no responses and was told on the phone they do not provide emailed information as they need voice recordings.
This company hopes people know nothing about laws and statutes, especially related to the MN Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I will continue to push back until I receive fair answers, in writing, and additional fees they're adding as they continue to send unnecessary documents to agencies who may not have access to my financial information or happenings.Gurstel Law Firm, P.C.

Gurstel law firm has no moral and no ethics . They file case hoping you don’t show up. They also send fake affidavits that looks like a court judgement hoping you don’t notice and pay . These people are criminals and show be audited and investigated . Keep all documents and record all the calls and everything else . Agents do not know what they are talking about. Was told 2 completely different things by different people. When questioned about this the 2nd person just wanted to "patch me through" to the person who apparently told me wrong. The law is the law, there's no changing it from person to person. This isn't the type of business you can have clueless, lazy idiots at the helm of if you want it to flow smoothly. Also just about the biggest pieces of garbage on the planet. I went through a pretty bad gambling addiction so it is my fault overall. However, every single other company (7 others) all worked with me and reduced the total. These are the only guys to actually sue me over such a petty amount of money. NEVER work with FNBO as they seem to partner directly with these guys. With the way the credit system is setup now-a-days it seems like this was a scheme they created together. Scamming and preying on young Americans at its finest. I am livid, I woke up this morning to find that my bank account has a levy on it for over $2,000 i was never notified of a court date, I do not know the validity of this alleged debt. Debt company that lunges for your throat. No contact made or their numbers and emails how up as known spam. Soon as no contact is made, they go straight to the courts to weasel and strong arm payments from hard working, struggling families. No surprise they are not accredited and have a review of 1.13. This review will likely do nothing to tarnish their trashy business-scape but hopefully help people decide not to let this company handle their debt. I just called Gurstel Law firm in Golden Valley, Minnesota to inquire about making a settlement offer. Chris answered the phone and refused to give me their email address unless I gave him the last 4 of my SS#. When I asked to speak to a supervisor to get my question about email answered, he hung up on me.
