In May 2023, Better Business Bureau questioned United Exteriors Construction's website, www.unitedexteriorconstruction.com, which stated:
- "Eco-friendly roof"
BBB’s Code of Advertising states,” Advertisersshould not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claimslike “green” or “eco-friendly.” Advertisers must qualify generalclaims with specific environmental benefits. Advertisers must possesscompetent and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to supportall environmental benefit claims. Qualifications for any claim must beclear, conspicuous and understandable. When an advertiser qualifies ageneral claim with a specific benefit, the benefit should besignificant. Advertisers must not highlight small or unimportantbenefits. Unless clear from the context, any environmental claim mustspecify clearly and conspicuously whether the claim applies to theproduct, the product’s packaging, a service or just to a portion of theproduct, package or service.
Thecompany did not respond, and has not modified, substantiated or removed theclaim.
