This company is charging 348.0414% on loans!! This cannot be legal!! Our daughter supidly borrowed $700. She has paid $563.02 and only $1.13 came off the principal so she still owes $698.87!! Yes, this was her own stupidity; however, this is pure and simple theft. Taking advantage of desparate people. She is a single mother and is finanacially illiterate. (Obviously) I am trying to pay it off but they aren't very helpful. Won't take my debit card, won't lower the payment for a pay off. I offered $500. That means they still would be receiving $1063.02 on a $700 loan taken out in April.Business Response

09/22/23 I applied for a $1600 loan from atlas. I have paid back $3,834.77 so far. They are charging me over 300% interest, which according to the ********** ***** usury law, is illegal and unfair loan practices and to pay off this loan as of today 6/5/2024 is $1,544.87. By the end of my installments, I will have paid 11,000 dollars on a $1600 loan, I am not willing to do that, as it is ludicrous ! This is in violation of my state law loans practices, and it is taking advantage of people in need.Business Response

I took out a loan from this company for 2300 dollars. It was an emergency. The company lied on initial documents and hid the outrageous interest rate untill the money was deposited into my account. I signed up for auto pay and paid on time every week since March 25th 2024. I called them yesterday turns out I still owe over 2300 to pay off the debt. I agreed to pay the rest. Company still charged me the 96.27 cents again today after I paid the loan off in full yesterday. They said that the payment will process today. Anyways long story short the loan cost me over 900 dollars without any missed payments since March 25th. Today is May 17th so not even 2 months and their interest rate came out to be about 900dollars plus. I did not sign up for this crazy interest rate. This is illegal in the state of Colorado. I already contacted my attorney and will proceed with legal action for fraud. Word to anyone who is thinking about signing a loan with this company Don't do it!!! It's a scam.Business Response

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Atlas Personal Finance (The Bank of Orrick who has been in business since 1902) for what I believe to be predatory lending practices that exploit consumers with poor credit in urgent financial situations. My experience with Atlas has not only resulted in severe financial distress but also significant mental and emotional stress.
October 2023, I accepted the original loan from Atlas in the amount of $2,500 due to financial distress. Despite my initial desperation, I have come to realize that the terms of the loan were not fair. The interest rate imposed on me was an exorbitant 198% APR, which is well above the legal limit allowed in Illinois.
I have paid a total of $2,689.54 which is more than what I borrowed on the original loan amount. Beginning November 10th, 223 I have made 14 payments bi-weekly of $192.11. With these rates their financial reports online cannot be accurate. I understand paying interests but why require customers who are already down pay astronautical rates when they're obviously at the last resort?
This loan has left me in a worse financial position than before I accepted the initial loan, contrary to the purpose of emergency financial assistance. The financial burden imposed by Atlas has made it extremely difficult for me to manage my other bills and basic living expenses with a young child at home.
I am requesting that the BBB help in resolving this issue by advocating for the immediate cessation of future debits from Atlas, the closure of my account, and the acknowledgment that my debt is paid in full. Furthermore, I ask that this resolution does not negatively impact my credit.
I am hopeful, Atlas will do the right thing and acknowledge I paid back everything I borrowed. I have learned my lesson and will never obtain a payday load again. I am barely making it check to check because of this loan almost $400/mo another 1.5yrs paying $10K almost 200% interest is CRUEL.Business Response

Brandi from Atlas contacted me in writing today to advise me that they have accepted my counter offer of $119 to pay on June 21st as a one time settlement agreement, which I would have paid my $2,500 original balance in full plus $500 in interest.
I thank the company for the amicable resolution. I am happy to close this complaint.

I took out a loan for $1,000 in December of 2023 and missed a payment in April of 2024, but I was able to make up the payment the following week in full ($83). When I checked my account four days after the last payment cleared, they over drafted my account and took out an additional payment of $1,098. When I called their customer support, I was told that there was an additional scheduled payment made online on April 22nd through the client portal. I explained to them that I would not have made this payment if I had already paid them this month. This "scheduled payment" that I supposedly made on the 22nd was also something that only THEY could see on their end. When I asked why I was not sent a confirmation email the same day if I had made this scheduled payment and they did not have an answer. The only email I was sent went to my spam folder informing me that a payment of $1098 would be coming out on April 30th. I was told that if I had called yesterday that I would have been able to cancel the charge, but how would I cancel a charge I didn't know about???! I had to call my bank and file a claim to attempt to get the funds returned but this may not even be something they can do. Much like the other reviews I have paid almost $500 of a $1000 loan, and 6 months later I still owe a payoff of $1098!! Terrible lender!Business Response

I had a 1250 loan. If I didn't pay in full I would have owed over 10000. This is not legal for the state of Missouri. They can only charge up to 9%. I don't think this is a legal business in the U.S.. This is absurd and had I of known I would go practically hungry for this loan I wouldn't have done it. I am calling a lawyer. I ended up paying about 8500 to them and I know this is completely wrong.Business Response

I applied for a loan that was suggested online by a company for the loan place Atlas. I filled out the info needed and was accepted for a $500 loan. I picked the option for 12 months for $500 for the 19th every month. This is what I accepted. After the approval and making a profile, my documents have it now showing multiple payments within each month and for 2 years. Making the amount around $3330.00 total. This is not what I agreed to. I have not received the money and I am wanting to cancel this loan as it was not initially the terms I agreed to.
It feels like a scam as not all the paperwork was disclosed until logged in after.Business Response

Applied & got approved for $1,300 loan, saw the absurd APR of almost 500% & immediately requested a cancellation. Needed this loan as an emergency with a child on the way but it’s not worth this. Hopefully this gets resolved as soon as possible it’s not worth it at all.Business Response

I was in a financial hardship and took a loan with Atlas in the amount of $2900. I have been paying $190.41 bi-weekly since October and despite having paid over $1900, my payoff balance is still $2789. This interest rate is robbery. I am having to take additional and equally as bad loans just to maintain these payments. I can not continue to keep this going. The interest rate has to be over 500%.Business Response
