My daughter recently visited Midas on *********************** for a routine oil change. She brought it in because she had noticed her maintenance light come on. Less than 2 months later, she found herself alone in her car, broken down and stuck in rush hour traffic on a 2-lane road. She called us in a panic saying her car would not start. She was by herself with angry drivers honking their horns, yelling and swearing at her. She was afraid to get out of her car. Fortunately, a few good Samaritans helped her push her car to a side road. When we arrived, the tow truck had kindly done a quick inspection and found that the oil filter was not tightened properly and saw oil pouring out from around it. He said, it was almost falling off. When he touched his finger to the oil filter, he noted that fresh oil was dripping out. My husband went under the car and confirmed this as well. We took the car back to Midas. *****, the manager, was initially very reassuring. He seemed to be genuinely concerned and sympathetic saying he would do whatever it took to make it right. I expressed my concerns about the oil being completely empty despite the recent oil change and the potential of that damaging the engine. I even asked, specifically, what would happen if the engine was damaged and needed to be replaced. He again reassured us theyd take care of it; however, one week later and the engine disassembled and left in disarray, Midas's district manager, **** ******, refused to accept Midas's employee's negligence and role in the destruction of our vehicle. He refused to apologize and blamed this on driver negligence. He gave no reassurance that employees will be trained properly to prevent this from happening again. He showed no concern for their customers' safety. I would not trust ******************** with any vehicle as they obviously have poor workmanship and no regard for their customers' safety.Midas Auto Service & Tires

It is indeed unfortunate that Mrs. ****** daughter had to go through this experience. It is never pleasant for anyone. We did an oil change months prior to the incident. We asked them to come back in so we could determine the issue and hopefully help them solve it. Had we left the oil filter loose at the time of the oil change, the car would have only lasted a few days before the oil ran out.
At some point a couple of months after the oil change, the oil warning light came on in the vehicle and the customer did nothing about it. We have no way at this point to determine what caused the light to activate. Mrs. **** even mentioned to MIdas that she had asked her daughter about the oil warning light repeatedly but never got an answer. Unfortunately, the customer did not have the warning light checked out and kept driving the vehicle. While we wish we could have helped the customer sooner, we can not take responsibility for user negligence. Anytime a warning light comes on in a vehicle, it should be checked out asap because you never know the severity of the issue. This whole situation could have been averted had the customer responded to the warning light and taken appropriate action.

Midas must feel a need to cover their tracks as their response contains several false statements. We were the ones who showed up at their shop with our concerns after the car broke down. They were not the ones to ask us to bring the car back. We went there asking if they would be able to help since they were the last ones to work on the car or if we should have the car towed elsewhere. We repeatedly told them NO warning lights ever came on to indicate there were any issues. We told Midas that we asked our daughter about any warning lights and she DID answer that NO lights EVER came on prior to the car breaking down. There were no funny noises or issues with the car engine. The car just suddenly stalled. I questioned why the warning lights would not have come on and never received an answer. In researching this and talking to our mechanic, the ****** Corolla maintenance light primarily signals when its time for a routine service, not for low oil pressure, and is based on mileage or time elapsed, neither of which applied in this situation. Further research regarding the oil light in a 2016 Corolla revealed that this light does not come on simply because the oil pressure or level is low but when the oil is not effectively lubricating the engine which is also what our mechanic was telling us. Midas initially seemed to take interest in helping us but instead of helping, they took apart the engine and never reassembled it making it difficult for our mechanic to assess any other issues but he was still able to identify that the oil had been leaking. (Oil had been replaced and gaskets and filter tightened by that point but he was still able to tell that there had been an oil leak problem leading likely causing the engine to seize and provided a video of this). **** ******, who was repeatedly told by my husband and myself on separate occasions that no warning lights turned on, blatantly stated the fact the warning lights never came on didnt matter; he still claimed driver negligence stating that my daughter should have noticed oil stains on the ground to indicate an oil leak. First of all, she is not a mechanic and how many people look under their cars? Second, her parking spot is black asphalt making an oil stain difficult for an untrained eye to notice in addition to the fact that she is always in the driver seat of the car. Furthermore, on researching oil leaks, how quickly an oil leaks out depends on what was wrong but because of Midas working on the repairs, this will never be known. Also, it is not unheard of to take 7-8 weeks for oil to leak out. Factors such as seal compromise, loose plug and washer, time and gravity play a role in addition to the cars oil capacity as well as driving conditions (ie rough roads, high driving speed can lead to accelerated leakage. Our daughter drives on well paved city roads and is a conservative driver). But again, since Midas worked on our car before telling us they could do nothing and simply blaming this all on driver negligence, it will never be known what the exact cause of the oil leak was. The facts, however, are that Midas was the last to work on our car for a routine oil change, the oil was found to be leaking at the time the car stalled with the oil filter noted to be loose, no warning lights ever came on (which we had repeatedly told the employees at Midas on **************************** and yet it appears they falsified their documentation) and now Midas is trying trying to cover up for their negligence by falsifying their documentation and laying blame on the customer. We have never even asked for any money; not even reimbursement for the faulty oil change. All I asked from **** ****** is that he acknowledge Midass mistake and let me know what he plans to do to prevent this from happening to anyone else as I view this as a safety issue. He callously replied that it was none of my business. Now, it appears not only did he refuse to acknowledge Midass role in a faulty oil change that could compromise a drivers safety but also falsified whatever documents were written in the report because:1) Midas was never the one who asked us to come in. We were already there asking if they can help or if we need to have the car towed elsewhere. 2) We repeatedly told both *****, the local manager, as well as **** ******, the district manager, that NO warning lights came on prior to the engine seizing to warn our daughter of a problem. 3) And we told them that when we asked our daughter whether she saw any warning lights, she DID ANSWER and the answer was NO. (Plus, she was the one who noticed the warning/maintenance light in the first place which is what prompted her to bring the car in for the oil change; so I know she pays attention to the warning lights). The multiple false statements made by Midas only reinforces why they cannot be trusted and proves their lack of concern for customer safety but now also makes me suspicious of what kind of business they are running.
