I am filing this complaint against Free Birth Society, LLC, which is registered in ************** and offers an online program called the Matribirth ******************* (***). The course is advertised as a professional midwifery training program that includes various modules like self-mastery tools, birth physiology, birth trauma coaching, and business training. However, there are significant differences between how the course is marketed and what is actually provided. Students are told not to call themselves midwives, even though *** is marketed as a midwifery institute. They are also advised not to charge for attending births to avoid legal issues, information that was not mentioned in promotional materials. The course is claimed to use an evidence-based approach, but the content is mainly anecdotal and lacks legitimate data or peer-reviewed research. There is no teaching on anatomy or physiology, so students must find outside resources to understand basic concepts, a fact that was not disclosed. Emergency situations are simplified to three suggestions: do nothing, defer to someone else, or go to the hospital, which provides no real training. Important topics such as shoulder dystocia lack detailed instruction, visuals, or safety considerations. The course minimizes common birth risks and does not equip students to identify high-risk factors. Overall, these issues demonstrate a serious misrepresentation of the education offered, leaving students confused and unprepared, which can jeopardize maternal and infant safety. I paid $4,500 for this fraudulent product and requested a refund directly from the business and was denied.

      Customer Answer

I appreciate the time taken to reply to my complaint. However, I strongly reject the content of the response, especially the statement that my dissatisfaction stems from "differing expectations".
Firstly, Ms. ******* claimed "over 48 weeks of live classes, recorded modules, peer coaching, and monthly assignments" were included in my purchase. According to her reply, "These offerings were clearly described at the time of enrollment, and all materials have been fully delivered". This is fundamentally untrue. I never had access to over 48 weeks of material, live, recorded or otherwise as stated in her reply. Secondly, I paid $4,500 and within minutes of asking to stop future payments, she revoked my access to what materials had been delivered to that point, materials that were said to be "life-time" accessible.
I would also like to address again the deeply concerning advertising behind this "course". Even the name itself is misleading and deceitful, Matribirth *******************. What kind of education would you expect to get at a "midwifery institute" if not one in midwifery? In marketing materials, it is called a "midwifery school".
In multiple places, including the course syllabus, the leaders of this program claim to provide an "evidence-based education". However, there was zero evidence for anything they presented in the course. The content is entirely anecdotal, unsupported by legitimate data or peer-reviewed research. There are no links to where information comes from, no referrals to any sort of texts or outside sources at all. This is the polar opposite of an "evidence-based education".
I did sign a contract that stated there were no refunds, however, my understanding is if there is an instance of significant fraud, that the contract may be void. I feel strongly that there is ample evidence of that in this case. This program is a dangerous scam that is putting mothers and babies at risk.

Thank you for the follow-up. We understand Ms. ******* remains dissatisfied, but we reiterate that the program was delivered in full as described and that the terms she agreed toincluding the non-refundable policywere clearly stated at enrollment. At this time, we have no further updates and consider the matter closed from our side. Thank you.
