  We hired Port City Movers to move ** on 12/19 from ***********, ** to ******, ** after an employee walked our house and garage providing us with a written quote that included 2 trucks, 5 men, and approximately 8 hrs to load trucks, drive, and unload trucks with cost of approximately $2600. Moving day day started at 830a with 5 employees-2 that seemed to care by wrapping furniture and protecting stairs and floors before the work; 2 that seemed to be there to socialize and do little as possible; 1 supervisor that had no control over anything. Around noon I realized they would not meet the est 8 hrs from quote. They constantly stopped during moving process to chat with reassurance from the supervisor that that time would come off the final bill. One of the employees complained about the work and caused major issues during the whole process. By 5p that day, they left the semi-packed house and drove to the new house to start the unloading process. At 8p there was 1 truck, they were tired & they left. Luckily we had mattresses, pillows, blankets, and items to shower with that night. Next morning truck was unloaded and process was complete within 4 hours for a total bill of $3,792.50. During the whole first day my husband was in contact with company about the estimate that was so off from the actual time. Also during the move we had a brand new wool rug cut, multiple broken dishes that had been in boxes marked fragile, a door from a cabinet broke, and multiple scratches on furniture. We had to spend money on a UHaul to finish all the stuff they left at the old house since it was everywhere; completely unacceptable from a moving company that is supposedly a reputable family-owned business. If I move again, I would rehire the two guys UHaul referred to us when we moved to *********** back in 2019 and only cost us about $500. We were promised some money back for problems and the rug that they cut but no response after 4 phone calls.

  Update to initial review: The manager of Port City Movers reached out to us after reading our review of his company. I believe he was appalled at how we were treated and offered to compensate us for some of the trouble. It doesn't negate the horrible experience we had. It does get us closer to the amount we were originally quoted. I want to thank ****** for doing his best to make a bad situation a little better.
