I rented a penske truck from the store on *************** *****. I was going to Virginia and decided not too. I had a company load the truck and it sat in my driveway so I didn't even move the the needle. So returned it to the same store, the clerk was being snooty to me me and I don't know why. (She says her grandfather just passed), but she didn't know I was storing my mothers things in storage because my mother passed also. I didn't do anything to provoke her to be that way. She snatched the key and slammed the door whe going to check the truck. I payed $504 for a one way trip, but I didn't go. It was local. They also gave me a unit all the way to the last one. Those units were on a dirt path. There is not anyway to even turn a 16ft truck! I wanted a **** unit. Do she changed it to another one closer to the entrance and I went to go to that one and it was a 55. So I had to go back and ask for a **** and then she says all they have was a 10x15 and they made me pay $147 for it. The first month was supposed to be free. They were very rude. I called the district office and spoke to whoever answered the phone and asked me to hold on. Then she said she would look into it and I haven't heard back from her yet. They owe me a lot of money back! And I want it. They have my card and they can put it back into my account and I need that money because I am moving tomorrow. I didn't even have that much money to just give them! That business was hateful to me and that's why they're treating me that way.

On Mon., 8/8, I had my household belongings moved into a unit at this facility. The unit I was given is not a standard storage unit. After putting most of my things in this unit, I had concerns. I went to the office to share my concerns and discuss a resolution, but the on-site team member was not open to discussing any possible solutions.

My unit has a wood door (like the front door of a house). With a standard unit, the wider roll up metal doors make it easier to scan the interior of the unit so I could more easily see where the items are that I need at a given time. A wood door is also less secure than a metal door. The renderings of the interiors of the units don’t indicate where the door is, so I didn’t know the unit would be long and skinny, also making it more difficult to scan my items. Further, I am concerned about the temperature inside this unit. It is supposed to be climate controlled. The temperature inside the unit felt much warmer than the hallway, even before I put my items in there. The on-site team member told me it looked different because it was extra space they made into a storage unit.

The manager Sierra called me on 8/11 as the on-site team member had told her that I was needed another unit. She offered me a second smaller unit with 1 month free and a $40.95 move-in fee. The 1 month free is a standard offer so the only real concession is a $16 discount on the $56 move-in fee, plus there’s the ongoing cost of the additional unit.

I am stuck paying full price for a unit that is subpar to other units at the facility. I’ve already paid $142.95 for this month’s rent. I would like a better unit and some compensation to help cover the cost of moving from one unit to another (whether in the form of free months or direct reimbursement).

I appreciate any help you can provide.

      Business Response

      Date: 08/17/2022

      Hello

On Monday 8/8 this customer stopped at the office prior to moving in to get the location of the unit and ask some follow up questions.  The grievance about the unit door and location was not brought up to the manager until after all the items had been moved in the unit. Had this been brought up earlier, the manager would have been able to offer a unit that better fit the customer's expectations. At the customer request for a second smaller unit(5x5) they were offered a free month on that space which at the time did not have any advertised specials. This was deemed unacceptable by the customer.

On 8/11 the supervisor, ******,  called the customer to offer a larger unit with the same free month plus the waiving of all applicable move in fees. The customer proceeded to say they would review us online and contact the BBB.

The offer for the 5x7 unit with a free month still stands should the customer accept.

      Thank you,

      Management
