BEWARE My wife found a company called Hill Top Energy, a co op that buys in bulk and shares the savings with its members. It sounded very good. The problem is they use Irving as the supplier of the oil delivered to your home. Irving told us that they needed to inspect our tank before they delivered any oil. They sent a guy to inspect our tank and he ran his hand along the bottom of the tank and failed the tank because of some rust he felt.He then informed me that it would be $4,000 to replace the tank. I called other oil service companies and they said if it's not broke don't fix it. Our tank is a older tank but the rust was just scale rust no pits in the metal. I asked if the company had a waiver of liability that we could sign. The answer was no. I don,t see how an oil delivery company would be liable if a tank would leak, and I have never had an oil delivery company ask to inspect my tank before they would deliver oil. We have ordered oil from a few companies and never has this been the case. What made me feel like this was a scam was the fact that they did not offer a waiver of liability. BEWARE!

      Mr. ******.
      Thank you for your email.
Irving’s policy with new oil customers, prior to making a delivery, is to perform an inspection on the oil tank itself. Irving’s inspection policy outlines strict guidelines where we inspect tanks for the following: rust, pitting, cracks, corrosion or other tank issues which make the tank unsafe to fill. In addition, the State of Maine requires oil technicians to be fully licensed, so the person who inspected your tank would be licensed in your state. With oil inspections that do not pass our guidelines, we would recommend a new tank installation be completed prior to Irving Oil filling your tank. If the consumer refuses to install a new tank, that is fine, as you, the consumer, own the oil tank and can choose any energy provider your wish. We do understand that the Hilltop buying group does contract with Irving and provides a good price to its members, however, our number one goal is to be the safest provider in the marketplace, and this includes oil tank inspections.
Thank you again for your email and we look forward to possibly servicing you for your home energy needs in the future
