We booked a stay at the Benjamin Prescott Inn (returning from a visit 5 years ago) for last weekend Jan 27-29, 2023. This was a Christmas present to ourselves. We were looking forward to a romantic getaway. The place is under new ownership-we found this out when we arrived. Upon arrival at 4 pm, there was no Inn keeper present (after reading the latest reviews we saw this was a normal problem). Breakfast was still out on tables, individually wrapped hostess coffee cakes, and waffles, with butter uncovered and sitting out. A sign on the wall said Weather today "Christmas day weather temp..". The carpets were dirty going up the stairs and no one was there. This was not the place we once stayed a quaint bed and breakfast-this was more of a hostile or an Air BnB with no cleaning service. We entered our room and promptly contacted Innkeeper. He did not answer. So we grabbed our belongings and left. Contacting another Inn down the street to stay there. The Innkeeper finally returned my calls around 5:30 pm. I told him I wanted my money back that his website was deceiving and there wasn't a full breakfast as described. Our first stay there was amazing, a Johnson and Wales Chef owned the place and made an amazing breakfast. The couple who owned it were so friendly and helpful, and the place was immaculate. If you read reviews it is awful what happened to the place. The InnKeeper said he would charge us one night even though we weren't staying there. I said that was unacceptable. I wanted a full refund, but he told me he did not have time for this headache and hung up. I then started emails with him so I could get it in writing. He charged us the full $336.36 for the weekend, then charged an additional $155.00, and then credited the $155.00. I am disputing the charges with my Chase credit card as we speak. When I say how disgusted we were about this entire experience and how he treated his guests, we are appalled. The previous owners must be disgusted.
