I rented a car from Avis in *****, *****, and was hit with shocking, unexplained charges when the vehicle was towed from a private lot. Per Miami-Dade regulations, the maximum non-consent tow for a standard passenger car should cost around $145 plus minimal storage fees. Instead, Avis billed me $819.10, which included a 10% credit card fee and a $155 service fee, yet provided no transparent breakdown for these excessive amounts. When I contacted Avisincluding the billing department, customer care, and roadside assistanceI was transferred repeatedly with no resolution. A manager told me they would not help and suggested I take legal action. Roadside assistance claimed not to have any billing details or receipts. To make matters worse, the final invoice shows a full tank of gas, despite the car initially having only 3/8 of a tank; I refilled above that level, so I have no idea if Im being billed for a complete refill. I strongly suspect the hidden service fee covers this unjustified fuel charge.Avis has refused to explain or correct these fees. Their disregard for basic customer service and clear billing practices has turned this rental into a nightmarecostly, time-consuming, and deeply frustrating. I urge Avis to abide by local regulations, provide a proper itemized statement, and refund the overcharges immediately. This is completely unacceptable behavior from a major rental company.Avis Rent A Car

Thank you for your response and for providing a partial breakdown of the charges. However, your explanation raises several concerns that remain unaddressed, and I require further clarification before I can consider this matter resolved. 1. Basis for Impound Fee: - The vehicle was towed from a parking lot, not involved in an accident, and had no damages. Last time, Avis explained that the car was "stored" to check for damages, yet no damages were found. Given this, why am I being charged an impound fee when Avis itself deliberately stored the car after the release? If damage inspection was necessary, why couldnt it be completed on the same day the car was released? A standard inspection should take one to two hours, not an entire day. 2. Lack of Transparent Breakdown: - You provided an impound fee total of $517, but failed to specify the exact rate, duration, or justification for this amount. I contacted the impound lot directly, and they stated that if Avis had retrieved the vehicle within 24 hours, the total fee should have been $172. Since Avis released the car within 10 hours, why is the charge so high? 3. Refusal to Provide Receipt: - I explicitly requested the official receipt from the impound lot to verify these charges, but Avis refused to share it. Instead, Avis simply claims that the impound lot charged this amount and is passing the cost onto me. This lack of transparency is unacceptable. Avis knows that the impound lot will not provide me documentation directly (as Avis is the registered owner). This creates an unfair situation where I am expected to trust unverified charges with no proof. This is not fair business practice. A customer should not be billed without being provided with clear documentation and justification. At this point, I request the official receipt from the impound lot that Avis received and a detailed breakdown of all fees charged. I also want a clear justification for the Service Provider Fee. I want to know what specific service was provided. If Avis continues to withhold this information, I will have no choice but to escalate this matter further. I expect a prompt and transparent response.M. A.

Rented a car through my 3rd party vacation package. After returning the car I received a receipt for $226 for fees and surcharges. This was more than I paid for the car rental. Contacted avis and was told that is their policy to charge the fees and surcharges on the back end. This way they look cheap and get business from the 3rd party vacation companies then s**** over the actual customer. They are running a scam and admit it.Avis Rent A Car

Terrible customer service. I tried to call their 800 number for assistance, no one answers the phone. A recording says 2 hour wait to speak to someone, so Ive been home from my trip for 2 months but it still upsets me how we were treated. I attempted to write this when we got home but the computer didnt save it so I put off sitting down to re-submit my review. So here goes. I booked the reservation in my husband name since he would be driving and I used Priceline. We arrived in ******* after midnight. Got to the Budget counter. Inquired about insurance and decided it was too expensive when we asked the guy how much. So since we said we didnt want insurance, he said oh, Ive already charged your card so I need your credit card to credit it back and we have to start over. We gave him the card to credit the $200 back that he said he just charged (which he lied about because there was no charge or credit on my statement). So he said do you have a card in your name and I gave him my card,he said hed see if he could get us a better rental rate. It ended up the same, but I said I want the tolls to be on the contract. He said Oh, Im not gonna charge you for tolls. I thanked him. After we got home I got a email for $85.00 e-tolls. I emailed Budget and received an email thanking me for the complaint so they can improve customer service by having the supervisor speak to the agent, but the stated they dont show we picked up the vehicle. We picked it up November 20, 2024 and returned it November 23, 2024. The email I received did not address why they wouldnt refund the toll fees. Also, the vehicle was dirty when we got it, but we were too tired to go back when we realized how it stunk and we had to go buy fabreeze and windex and wipes to clean it so we could stand to be in the vehicle. I will not ever rent Budget again. ***** *******Avis Rent A Car

Nine months after a work trip, Avis is taking me to collections for something they claimed happened in ancient history. They had a company card on file that would have handled any damages (there were none). Since they made the false claim so late, that card is no longer in effect. Now they are pursuing me personally. I travel extensively for work and have never had any garbage like this happen. I will never rent from Avis/Budget again and there is no way I will pay for damages I didn't cause and had coverage for anyway. Seems to be a common scam for them according to the information available online. I will do my best to spread this as far and wide as possible so others can be aware.Avis Rent A Car

My family flew from ******* to ******* for my daughter's graduation. I purchased a car rental through *************** when I booked my flight. I paid extra money to obtain a van even though the website showed that the **** were cheaper. I paid for everything with my bank card. However, when I got to the counter, the customer service person said that I could not rent the van I had ALREADY paid for - it was not available for me because I did not have a credit card. Then, I was given an SUV and charged $250 extra for the use of the **** I was not given a refund or an apology or anything. When I called the company to get a refund, I was told that a standard SUV cost more than a van. How is that possible? This entire situation was like a bait and switch. I feel as if I have been swindled and that the customer service person put me through the wringer on purpose to get a bigger profit and maybe a bonus for her complicity in the whole charade. My advice is never, ever, ever rent from Avis or Budget because they are the same company.Avis Rent A Car

Rented an Avis intermediate vehicle through Expedia for $317.29. I have the receipt that shows no indication that a corporate discount code was applied. Upon arriving to airport rental and waiting 1 hour for customer service because they overbooked and no cars were available, the agent said they could not honor our Expedia price because we were booked using company discount (again I have the receipt and there is nothing that indicates the discount). We were with 2 other families that booked the same way, same day, same price. We all ended up booking SUVs due to unavailability of vehicles at 5.5 x the rate. My booking amount = $1742.86. With 6 kids between the families, that it the only option we saw at the time. Upon return all 3 families called to see if anything could be done about the incurred costs. Two families received a refund in the amount of approximately $1150 each but our family's refund was rejected. When I became aware that the other 2 families received a refund with no issues I called back and spoke with an agent who took my information, opened a case ********, and said I would receive notification of rejection or approval via email. I offered to share the case ******** of one of the other families so they can compare experiences and refund requests. After more than two weeks, with no notification I called back and was told the same reasons for rejection (corporate discount with no proof but again I have the receipt which does not show corporate discount conditions). I asked for escalation only to be brought to manager level, with no additional insights other than parroting back scripted responses. Clearly the customer experience, refund procedures and policies are not consistent from customer to customer. They have no answer as to why refund policies and customer service is not consistent. When asked to speak to an ethical/compliance line or her manager, she said she was the highest level I could get and that Avis has no such department.Avis Rent A Car

my 2013 ***** camaro was hit by a driver that was renting a car through avis in a road rage incident, the driver admitted to hitting me intentionally on the expressway and then tried fleeing the scene of the accident until he was stopped by highway patrol. i contacted avis multiple times via phone call and email and was told to send it photos of the police report and damages to my car, ever since then ive been completed ignored by them and it has been almost 2 months now since my car was hit. i dont even know if the guy that hit me was insured because they arent responding to any emails and when i call they just give me the run-around. this car rental place is a complete joke and i am strongly considering just getting a lawyer and suing avis along with the guy who hit my car.
