I received an automated but customized email from "Cameron *****" from yourpensionmeeting.com and found out that the agent is from Universal Retirement, and not part of the organization I work in. Not knowing this during our initial call, I provided my personal and financial information. I could not shake off the strange feeling that this was not legitimate. After the call, I made some calls and discovered that this is a separate firm in a different state, and definitely not part of the organization I work in. Beware all.

Insurance pushers with bad customer service. My personal experience was with one of UniRets lead advisors. In my opinion, these are insurance salesmen, not financial advisors. I don’t believe these agents are fiduciaries and therefore not obligated to work in your best financial interest. My agent was very attentive, until he sold me a product. After realizing the product he sold me was not what I originally asked for, I attempted to reach out cordially via email, his assistants, and through his business cell. This was months ago with no reply since. I wanted to convert a pension into a Roth IRA and was looking for advice on what to invest it in. The agent contacted me through my pension provider, so he seemed like a credible advisor. The agent rolled my funds into an annuity instead despite this not being at all what I asked for. At no point were the terms, risks, fees, penalties, or caps of this contract clarified to me verbally. It also was not explained to me that annuities need to sit for decades to see any gains. Written contract was incredibly confusing jargon. I asked for clarification that this was a Roth IRA and not an insurance product. I was told not to worry, that this was my best option, and I was urged to sign so we could move forward. Looking back it feels predatory. Then he began trying to sell me indexed universal life. When I raised suspicions he assured me he was not trying to sell me life insurance despite that being exactly what he was doing. I lost a pretty penny due to the surrender penalty trying to get out of the 10 year contract with the insurance company. Clearly not the best option for me. Never once did I mention that I was interested in an annuity. I very clearly communicated I wanted a Roth IRA, and my agent (in my opinion) chose an account that wasn’t suitable for me because there was a commission to be gained for him. Then he didn’t even have the integrity to respond to me when I reached out seeking clarification.
