I opened a Checking account with M&T Bank just over a month ago. As everyone knows, if one has several direct deposits coming in, and bills going out, of a checking account, changing it all up for a new account is very taxing. One has the worries of getting everything done in time for all deposits and deductions to make the transactions smoothly. I thought that all this was done and was relieved that all was finished. Then a few days ago, I got a letter from M&T. Thinking that it was just another promotional ad, I ALMOST didn't even open it. To my shock, it was a letter to me that my account was getting closed out in January. The letter addressed each service of my checking, one at a time, stating how each was getting shut down very soon and I was getting kicked out. The letter had a date of Dec 21, I received it Dec 29, and my debit card would be cancelled Jan 15, and everything else in my account, Jan 22. One thing that the letter did NOT state was a reason WHY. Absolutely no reason was given as to why my account was getting shut down. In fact, they made it a point to say that they were deliberately NOT GOING TO TELL ME WHY. I rushed to my local branch. An employee there looked up my checking account at the computer at her desk, and she informed me that the system had no comments or notations whatsoever as to me getting kicked out. I called the 800 number on the letter, and a man answered, I explained to him about my letter. He told me that he could be of no help to me at all. He said that the decision was made in the "back office", and when I pressed him further as to WHY, the closest he gave me as to any kind of answer was that I might have been considered a "risk". Why am I, as he said, a "risk"? I was not attempting any kind of credit whatsoever from M&T Bank. I was not applying for a loan. I was just conducting my banking.M&T Bank

There was an error in payments, but I was not notified because statements were being sent to an old address, which they reverted back to, even though they had been sending them to my new address for two years. Despite several calls, no one could tell me why it happened. My new address was erased from their records. They said the late fee would have to be appealed, but they never called back. I don't know what is happening. Every time I call, they pass me from person to person. I don't feel secure that my updated information just disappeared and nobody could explain why. The only reason I found out about the payment error was through a credit report.M&T Bank

Bank has 64+ million in mortgage Fraud., And.., they defrauded me. They bought my mortgage of 19 years, with another bank. They Immediately added a side charge to my reg mthly payments ~ $1,550. I asked what for ? They said, mm.., could be for many things, but it is on your account now, so you have to pay. I asked for verification paperwork., They said there IS none. I said bingo, cuz Not mine! A mistake. They added $19,000+ to it, and foreclosed!!!!!! I'm a 9 year Veteran & senior ~ and these pukes hosed me, as they have with millions of others! * * ******* ~ ***, **.M&T Bank

We have had an extremely negative experience with our mortgage lender, M&T bank. Our loan was transferred to them and we encountered numerous issues with their online dashboard and the need to call for assistance. Their processes for updating or changing information are illogical and require a representative to open a ticket for you. Furthermore, their business practices regarding Premium mortgage insurance are appalling. Despite being told that we needed to reach a 20% loan-to-value ratio to stop paying PMI, we are still being charged even though we are at 21.1%. When we requested its removal, we were informed that we now need to meet a 78% LTV requirement, pay for an appraisal, or wait 8 years until our mortgage is paid down to 78%. This is an unacceptable practice that forces us to go through unnecessary hurdles for a resolution.

I submitted a complaint against MNT Bank for the poor customer service that I have been receiving since I’ve opened my account, which was last Thursday. I got a response from someone saying that they were going to reach out to me or for me to call a number the number that they listed was a generic number to customer service, so I’m not really sure why they even listen that number because it’s just the generic number to customer service. My issue was not gonna be resolved and also I received a phone call from that same number, which basically takes you to customer service and no one left me a detailed voicemail message in regards to my complaint.M&T Bank

I have been with the bank for over 25 years. Recently the bank has handled my account and case unfairly. They have restricted usage to my personal account. I have seeked assistance, and although an employee has been doing her part to help me, it seems as the bank and its departments are not supportive. This issue has inconvenienced me, and even urging this matter and my concerns no resolution has been made. The reasons they have given me, the requirements and conditions they have placed are completely ridiculous. I am a middle class woman, living within my means, would I have been an asset to the bank, had more money in my account, this case could have been handled very differently. This has made me feel targeted. Would my accounts speak differently I would be helped with more urgency, and fairly. I am prepared to take further action if the bank neglects me and my account any further.M&T Bank

This back has been nothing but troublesome since they bought our my previous bank. Fees, transactions that get blocked for no reason, the service over the phone is terrible and doesn't help solve anything. They blocked my attempt to link assests to a mortgage company because it used a VPN, which caused my online banking to get locked out. When I called the service number, they spent over 45 minutes looking into it only to tell me noting could be done and o need to go into a branch. Any even have the phone system of they can't do anything?M&T Bank

My mortgage was unfortunately sold to M&T, they've been consistently difficult to deal with. They take forever to get back to me on everything, and its always through some middleman instead of the actual department I need to speak with. I could not be more disappointed in my experience with M&T and would not recommend them to anyone for anything. They are supplying me with conflicting information, one rep over the phone says one thing, then they send me a mailer with a different message. It has a very stressful experience with this company, they have 1000’s of negative reviews and complaints on BBB ...I cannot believe the company is not doing anything about it.M&T Bank

Horrible experience when it comes to opening up a bank account.
And setting up online banking.
Won’t recommend ANYONE 2 open up accounts with this bank.

Unfortunately M&T ended up with my mortgage, and with my current interest rate it would be stupid to refinance. I attempted to sign up for ACH payments, which i assume at this point is a pretty standard practice. I spoke with a CS rep on the phone to set things up to come out on my payday every other Friday starting on day X. We reviewed everything, spoke of the specific days it would come out everything, i stupidly thought this was great, so easy! Boy was i mistaken! My paycheck rolls around, nothing was deducted, i check my account every day for a week and nothing was deducted i called CS to find out what the issue is, low and behold "our system is unable to do every other week payments, specific days of the month only". To my shock she tells me things are setup for day X and X every month, which do not work for my pay cycles and that i am also now late with my payment, so i also have a late fee due. I ask if we can review the conversation that i had to set things up, since all CS calls are recorded and i would like to have the fee dropped, she informed me that it wasn't possible since its my fault the payment is late. We end the call by adjusting the days that it will be taken out, not an ideal situation but whatever. So for a few months things are status quo. I then get an overdraft notice in the mail from my bank, with a ridiculous amount of fees ($35x8), it shows M&T attempting to withdraw multiple times on random dates for more money than my actual mortgage payment. I called AGAIN and got nowhere. I had to file fraud charges through my bank to get the money back, it then took 5 additional phone calls and 6 months for M&T to cancel the payments. The infrastructure for this organization is archaic at best. I am waiting to refinance with another bank just so I can get rid of the awful payment system they have. If your mortgage broker suggests M&T bank RUN in the other direction, just paying your mortgage will be an absolute nightmare.M&T Bank
