M&T discriminates against the working poor. They're charging me $20/month on my savings account as a "handling fee," because I have less than $10,000 in my savings account (believe me, I'd LOVE to have over $10,000 in my savings account). Thanks to this money grab fee, the chances of getting my savings balance over $10,000 is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT. I've been at the branch to discuss it with them, to try to get that fee waived. The bank official I spoke with, Dave L******, was a lot less than helpful. He spend most of the time with me, giving me threats, especially that he would close out my account. When I accused M&T of making a money grab, he denied it vehemently. When I asked him, why, he told me he has no answer. I also tried speaking with M&T over the phone, and they were almost as bad as Dave L******.
I've been an M&T account holder for a long time, and today, I did not feel like I was valued at all.

I've been with m&t for many years but I will be switching, as online banking NEVER seems to be up and running as of the past 7 months or so. So every morning I wake up and try for 1/2 an hour to get my bills paid, only to leave it so I'm not late for work, figuring I'll try again tomorrow.....and so on and so on. Total pain, I'm mailing checks out again so I'm not late. There is NO excuse for this kind of ineptitude!M&T Bank

Never ever again!!! I opened an account under a Power of Attorney for a friend of mine. I was open and honest with what he wanted me to do. Verified by their investigator as he talked with him personally and stated I was completely acting on his behalf. They closed HIS account and MINE and NEVER forwarded the money to me. I got my checking but never got his savings or mine since it happened in July, 2023. They kept giving excuses. Bank employee verified the correct address on the accounts prior to them allegedly mailing but sent it to an out of state address. Still has not been corrected no matter how many times I call. Meanwhile, they are making money off money that does not belong to them. It does not pay to be honest or try to help a friend out with this bank. I had to go to an attorney to try to get this resolved.M&T Bank

This is the number garbage bank in America. Please stay away from this bank. I cashed a check and they locked my account for 2weeks now. I went to the branch twice and they keep repeating me the same story. You don't need more than 1week to clear a check. The check was going to bounce back after 2days I cashed it but it didn't happened. They still got my account on hold for not reason. I been more than 2weeks now. Going to 3weeks. Thanks GOD I have more than 2millions followers on ****** and *********. I will make sure everyone is going to hear about this garbage bank.M&T Bank

This bank is constantly having system issues, declining payments and purchases electronically! I make an electronic payment it gets declined two I attempt a 3rd time hours later the payment finally goes through, the creditor I was pay locked my account and I needed to use that card
I called the prep and of course they could careless, although I get it's not the reps fault that the entire system is down but it's clear that they feel like my issue due to the bank is not an issue to them. This bank feels like it operates like a check cashing establishment.M&T Bank

It is so so unfortunate my mortagage was transferred to this bank. This is the worst bank I have dealt with. The customer service people is plain awful with absolutely no customer service skills. It’s a bunch of unhappy, unhelpful, miserable sounding people that seem to hate their job. They can’t acknowledge the customer issue or be empathetic at all so what is the point of such department? They never emailed me, which is my favorite method of communication about a return payment that I wasn’t aware. I have been paying my mortgage in advance for years and now I have a 30 days late remark on my credit score. When I called to see if they could help me to remove, the customer service rep sounded like a robot and said “I can pay on time as many time I want if I miss a payment they will report”, like how ridiculous that person is? She needs to stop and listen to herself and realize she is on the phone with a human who called for help with a reason, but all she can repeat is her miserable script that she does daily and ignore the fact that THEY DID NOT EMAIL
ME ABOUT THE LATE PAYMENT! Email is my preferred method of communication. She is quick to tell me policies. This is the type of organization that doesn’t serve people. It makes no sense to take a blind approach with a consumer that clearly has paid on time for many years and only missed a payment due to an oversight, which includes the lack of flexibility of the bank that doesn’t email the customer about the due payment. It’s unacceptable that we have organizations that are so evil and so unhelpful like this. What is the point of purposely trying to hurt someone when the evidence of an oversight is clear on front of them? I really wish there was a way for me to remove my property Mortagage from this bank.M&T Bank

THIS IS THE THIRD BANK TO HOLD MY MORTGAGE AND THE WORST SERVICE EVER.
I HAVE HAD AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS SET UP FOR OVER 15 YEARS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS BANK TOOK OVER.
THERE WAS An ERROR IN MY MORTGAGE PAYMENT IT WAS TAKEN BUT NOT PUT TIWARDS MY MORTGAGE AND NOW IT IS TAKING DAYS TO RECTIFY THEIR ERROR.

As a CPA with almost 45 years experience in public accounting, M & T Bank, in my opinion, is one of the more inept financial organizations that I have encountered in my entire career. The uniform lack of knowledge displayed by their loan underwriting and compliance personnel that I have witnessed is frightening. With the exception of 1 individual, my experience with this institution reflects they have no regard nor concern for their business customers. Rather than seek ways to assist, I have found the bank exercises detrimental behavior to inhibit customer success. My use of the word customer may not be the correct terminology. My experience has shown that account holders are predominantly account numbers utilized to better the bank's bottom line. From my perspective, their 1.09/5 rating is generous. In my opinion, the low rating is both well earned and well deserved. I personally look no farther than too see the canned response to negative reviews as an indicator for a lack of care and attention to faults and complaints. In good conscience I could not recommend this institution to any current nor prospective client.M&T Bank

I Wish there was a place where I can give zero stars. My mortgage loan was sold to this bank from the builders of my new construction home. I have been lied to by many agents when trying to find out the process of property taxes. It is very difficult to get anyone knowledgeable on the phone or to get any accurate information. I do not appreciate the terrible service. As soon as I can I will be refinancing just to get away from this business. They are also very money hungry and try to keep your escrow money. It's the end of the year and they still have not done an accurate escrow analysis. They are also waiting until the last minute to pay my taxes. If you have a choice do not do business with these people. You will always get the run around.M&T Bank

THE most unprofessionally bank I have ever dealt with. Mortgage statement not received (its a commercial mortgage), no one can locate my account. I wait for my monthly statement which does or does not arrive. This month of course it was not received. There is no address on previous statements on where to mail my check. I have tried to set up an online account and that proved fruitless as well. It is a conundrum. Very poorly managed to say the least. Not at all customer focused. M&T's lack of technology is appalling, with mailed statements containing incomplete info No phone numbers and no contact info? Who runs a company like this?
Did I say my mortgage passed hands to 3 different banks, and M&T is THE absolute worst institution I have ever dealt with. Who is running this company? Rene J**** is listed.....this is an appeal to you......you need a major overhaul, and here is a tip...look at every piece of mail you send out and you will see the deficiencies.......for example, the top part of my mortgage statement gets torn off at the perforation, and what remains is minimum, with NO pertinent information...like contact info, account info, mailing address...
Pathetic and sooooo frustrating. I'll be paying off my mortgage soon, and good riddance.M&T Bank
