    I went to Smile Center on April 14th of this year; I had some pain and discomfort, and had called for an appointment. When I called, I gave the receptionist all of my insurance information. I have ****** ****** Medicare/Medicaid, as I am an elderly retired woman. I was never told that the business did not accept Medicaid; if they had told me that I wouldn't have made the appointment, merely found another dentist that took my insurance plan.
    I went to the appointment and had xrays and an examination done. I was referred out. My bill is $124.00. I was stunned that I received this bill. I should have been informed that they did not accept my insurance. I do not believe that I should pay this bill.

    In regards to ******* **********' complaint to the BBB about the bill she received from Smile Center, listed below are the dates she was seen in our office that resulted in the $124. bill she received. Also listed below are the dates we tried to reach ******* about her balance by mail and through text. 08/07/2023-During ******** first appointment with our office we did discover that we were not in network with her insurance so instead of billing her we wrote off the visit in full as a courtesy. 08/14/2023-Insurance coverage for ******* was not active during this appointment so Smile Center only billed her for the insurance variance. The appointment was $152, insurance if active would have paid $78, Smile center only held ******* accountable for $74. 01/24/2024-Insurance was active and did pay for the entirety of this appointment so there was no out of pocket expense. 02/22/2024-******* did not show up to her scheduled appointment and a $50 no show fee was charged to her account. With the balance from her appointment on 08/14/2023 and her missed appointment fee on 02/22/2024 ******* owed Smile Center $124. ******* did not have an appointment with us in April of 2024. Smile Center sent out statements to ******* via mail and text about this balance.   Mailed and Texted Statements:  06/06/202407/08/2024 07/16/2024 09/11/2024 07/10/2407/23/202408/26/202408/20/202409/03/202409/10/202409/11/2024Because we were unable to reach ******* and sort out the balance Smile Center sent her to collections on 09/17/2024. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.
