My 4th grader received counseling from Horizon Health services which was located out of his Amherst public school. Upon initiation of services the cousnelor advised that the cost would be $25 copays and that we would work out something after that. However, I was never told how much the charges would be after our deductible was met. I expressed inability to pay a high amount and was shocked to find that they billed over $150 per session totaling a bill of $1,840.80 for 3 months of sessions. Prior to that we paid $175 for the copays. I believe this is too high for a counseling session and the cost should be disclosed prior to being charged. I reached out to Horizon expressing financial hardship due to my son's father and I going through a divorce and inability to pay such a high bill. I spoke with a manager named Anne who said they weren't able to do anything and to reach out to ********. I believe eventually she agreed to run it by her supervisor. I have not heard back from that supervisor as of yet. I reached out to ******** and spoke with Megan and filed a complaint id **********. ******** said they are unable to do anything as well. I don't believe we should have to pay $1,840.80. Considering we weren't notified of the cost prior to service, I am asking that considering financial hardship we only have to pay the $25 copays for the sessions between March- May. Note that services rendered from November through February only came to $175.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/06/2023

It was explained to patient's mother on November 9,2023, that an
internal review would be completed, which includes reviewing the
insurance policy and charges on the account. At the conclusion of the
review, Horizon would contact her with findings.
At this time, Horizon will contact patient's mother and review our
findings and present a resolution that is acceptable to both parties.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
