On 2/21/25 I went for a routine blood work up. On 2/22/25, South Shore Medical called me to let me know my results were ready but stated I MUST schedule (and pay for) another appointment to receive my results. I refused and requested my results be sent directly to me. I was told the ** or PA would be in touch. No one ever reached out *****. I called again and left a message for the office manager on 2/26/25, with no response. I called again on 3/3/25 and the office manager then told me again the ** would reach out. I never received the follow up call or the blood work results. On 3/6/25 I recieved a letter from South Shore Medical stating they cannot get in touch with me. I have the phone log of my calls with them to prove that wrong and when I looked up their reviews on ****** and on Indeed it has become evident they are coercing people to book follow up appointments to get their blood work results just to double bill them. This is not right nor was this the policy in the past as I have been getting yearly blood work at this office for over 10 years. They are putting patients at risk in a attempt to double bill. I want to receive the results of my blood work asap without having to pay extra for it as I already paid for the blood work in the initial visit.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/07/2025

This patient was seen in our office January 2025, and did have blood work done in February 2025. There were abnormal findings on the lab work for which the patient was advised to follow-up. The patient has refused a follow-up appointment. He is welcome to have a copy of his labs sent to him. We emailed him, asking for consent to release records in the email, but had not heard back.

We would like this patient to follow-up because of a concern about abnormalities found on his lab work. The patient is obviously free to follow-up with another doctor if they wish. We do have concerns about the results, and are only trying to make sure we attend to the abnormalities, and address them with the patient.

The following are telephone encounters associated with the this chart in regards to the lab results:
    R, A. 02/28/2025 09:36:23 AM EST > TRIED CALLING CAN'T LEAVE MESSAGE
    R, A. 03/03/2025 09:35:43 AM EST > tried calling again
    R, A. 03/03/2025 11:16:55 AM EST > f/u letter
G, A. 03/03/2025 01:51:30 PM EST > Patient called and he want to get the blood work results to send him in the email. He refuse to schedule a follow up with the provider. He is advised to schedule a follow up so we can educate him and document his results. I send him an email and waiting for the consent.
    L,M. 03/04/2025 10:49:16 AM EST > acknowledged.
    G,A. 03/05/2025 10:48:39 AM EST > So far patient didn't response.

We did receive a letter faxed to us from the patient on 3/7/2025, and on 3/7/2025 reached out again to get consent to where he would like the labs sent. The office manager was able to reach the patient, and asked if he received the email. He stated he didn't receive it. The email was confirmed and the same email was forwarded again. The office manager waited on the phone with the patient to assure that he received the email, and he acknowledged that he received it, and will send consent to have results emailed to him. She also counseled the patient that he should follow up with a clinician to discuss these results. The patient understood the need to follow up.
